That option captures the page’s full scrollable length instead of only the visible viewport; it is opt-in, so include it explicitly.
Capture the full page with synchronous Python
Install Playwright and its browser binaries, then navigate to the page and save the screenshot. The following example uses Chromium and writes a PNG to screenshot.png:

browser.close()The key setting is full_page=True. Without it, Playwright captures only the current viewport. Playwright’s Screenshots documentation describes full-page screenshots as captures of the full scrollable page.
Set up Playwright in Python
If Playwright is not installed in your Python environment, install the package and the browser binaries before running the script:

python -m playwright install chromiumSave the synchronous example as a Python file, such as full_page.py, then run it with python full_page.py. The browser must be able to reach the target site from the machine running the script.
Use the asynchronous API
For an async application, use Playwright’s async API and await navigation and screenshot operations. The full-page option is the same:

asyncio.run(main())Use the sync or async version that fits the surrounding program; do not mix the synchronous and asynchronous APIs in the same flow. Playwright’s Python library guide documents both styles.
Choose an output format and destination
With a path argument, Playwright writes the image to that file. The filename extension can determine the format. The screenshot API documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP output; WebP support is noted in the Playwright 1.62 release notes.

.pngfilename for PNG output. - Use a
.jpegor.jpgfilename for JPEG output. - Use a
.webpfilename for WebP output.
If you omit path, the screenshot method returns image bytes instead of saving directly to a file. You can pass those bytes to another part of your program for processing or storage. Check the Page screenshot API reference for current parameters and defaults, including scale, animation handling, masking, and styling.
Capture full-page screenshots automatically with pytest
If you use Playwright’s pytest plugin and want screenshots saved on test failures, its --full-page-screenshot option requests full-page captures. It requires the plugin’s --screenshot option and is off by default. For example:

Troubleshoot common problems
- The image shows only the visible portion: Set
full_page=Truein the screenshot call. The option defaults to false. - The browser executable is missing: Install the browser binaries for the browser you launch, for example with
python -m playwright install chromium. - The script fails while loading the page: Confirm the target URL is reachable from the machine, and inspect any navigation exception. A screenshot cannot capture a page that did not load successfully.
- The output is not where expected: Check the path relative to the script’s current working directory, or provide an explicit destination path.
- You requested WebP but got a different format: Check the filename extension and the screenshot API’s supported options for your installed Playwright version.
