In Firefox, open the webpage with its own dark theme enabled, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page. Press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS, if you prefer a shortcut. The page—not just the browser toolbar—must be rendered dark when you capture it.
Capture the entire dark webpage in Firefox
- Open the page and turn on its dark theme using the site’s theme control or settings, if needed. Check the page content itself: a dark browser toolbar does not make a light webpage dark.
- Right-click an empty area of the webpage. On macOS, Control-click is the equivalent.
- Choose Take Screenshot. If you cannot use the context menu, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page. Do not choose Save visible, which captures only the portion currently on screen.
- Choose Download to save the image in Firefox’s default download folder, or Copy to put it on the clipboard. Open the result and check that the whole page and its dark styling appear as expected.
Mozilla describes Firefox screenshots as a way to capture visible parts of pages or full pages, then copy or save the images. Mozilla Support’s Firefox screenshot instructions cover the built-in interface.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for more control
Firefox Developer Tools offers a screenshot button and a Web Console command. These are useful when you need to capture a full page with options such as a delay or a specific filename.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Enable the screenshot button
- Open Developer Tools and its settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Click the screenshot button in the Developer Tools toolbar. Firefox saves the capture in Downloads.
Capture from the Web Console
Open the Web Console and enter:
:screenshot --fullpage
The --fullpage option captures page content beyond the current window. The helper also supports optional delay, device-pixel-ratio, clipboard, and filename parameters. When providing a filename with --filename, use a name ending in .png. See Firefox Developer Tools’ screenshot documentation for the supported syntax and options.

Firefox’s two approaches: which should you use?
| Method | Best for | Options and output |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in screenshot interface | A quick full-page capture without opening Developer Tools | Choose full page or visible area; download the image or copy it. |
| Developer Tools button or Web Console | Captures that need additional control | The Web Console helper supports options including delay, device-pixel-ratio, clipboard, and filename; the screenshot button saves to Downloads. |
These are functional differences, not a performance comparison.
What about Chrome?
Chrome’s Device Mode is designed to simulate devices and viewports, but Chrome notes that its simulation is only a first-order approximation of a mobile experience. That documentation does not establish a full-page screenshot sequence, so do not treat Device Mode alone as instructions for saving an entire page. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation for its stated scope.

A Chrome Web Store listing advertises full-page capture as a feature of the GoFullPage extension. The listing does not establish capture quality or privacy behavior; assess an extension’s permissions and suitability before using it. GoFullPage — Full Page Screen Capture on the Chrome Web Store.
Fix common screenshot problems
- The image looks light: Enable the webpage’s own dark theme or site-specific dark-mode setting. The browser’s dark interface and Developer Tools theme do not determine the page’s rendered colors.
- Only part of the page appears: In Firefox’s screenshot interface, choose Save full page, not Save visible.
- You need a delay or custom filename: Use the Developer Tools Web Console’s
:screenshothelper and its documented options. Use a.pngfilename with--filename. - Content is missing or repeated: Wait for the page to finish loading before capture, then inspect the image. Pages that load content as you scroll may behave differently; check the output rather than assuming every section was captured correctly.
- The screenshot contains sensitive information: Review it before sharing and crop or redact anything private. The browser capture steps do not automatically redact page content.
Or skip the browser setup
