In Microsoft Edge, open the local HTML file, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, review the result, and save it. Microsoft documents this workflow for webpages, but does not explicitly guarantee that the full-page option is available for every local file:// page or Edge version. If it is missing, use Firefox’s built-in full-page capture instead.
Capture the local file in Microsoft Edge
- Open the HTML file in an Edge tab. You can open it from the browser or double-click it in File Explorer if Edge is your chosen browser.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open the capture tool from Edge’s Settings and more menu.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the image, then save it to your device. The capture is of the rendered webpage, including content beyond the visible viewport—not just the part currently on screen. Microsoft’s Edge instructions describe the menu and shortcut workflow.
Edge’s feature availability and behavior can vary by browser version, device, and market. If the shortcut opens a capture interface but does not offer Capture full page on the local file, use the Firefox options below. Microsoft’s documentation does not explicitly promise that the Edge command works for every file:// document.
Use Firefox if Edge has no full-page option
Firefox provides both a toolbar button and a Web Console command for full-page screenshots. Its documented --fullpage option captures content outside the current window.

- Open Firefox DevTools and go to Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the screenshot icon that appears in the DevTools toolbar. Firefox saves this capture in the browser’s Downloads directory.
Run the Web Console command
Open the Web Console, enter the following, and press Enter:

:screenshot --fullpage --filename page.png
The --filename option lets you choose a name; Mozilla’s documentation specifies a .png extension for the filename. The command also has optional controls for delay, device-pixel ratio, clipboard output, and targeting a CSS selector. See Mozilla’s screenshot documentation for the available command options.
Check the rendered result before sharing
A screenshot records the page as the browser renders it, not simply the source HTML text. The visible result can depend on the document’s CSS, JavaScript, images, and other resources. Review the capture for missing content, clipped sections, or resources that did not load before sending or publishing it. Microsoft’s Sources tool overview describes page resources from both a server and the file system.

Use a local web server if needed
If a browser’s full-page command is unavailable while the page is opened directly as a file:// URL, you can try serving the local site and opening it in Edge. Edge DevTools documentation describes using a local web server to load a local website and work with its source files. This does not guarantee that a particular Edge build will expose the full-page command, so verify that the option appears after loading the page.
For inspecting the page, Edge DevTools opens with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I; its Command Menu opens with Ctrl+Shift+P. These shortcuts are useful for inspection, but Microsoft’s reviewed Edge documentation does not establish a full-size screenshot command in that menu. See Microsoft’s DevTools overview.

If the page is available at a URL, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot through one GET request. For a local HTML file, first make it reachable at a URL; the API request captures a URL rather than a local file path. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace https://stripe.com with the reachable page URL. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents to take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshooting
Edge does not show “Capture full page”
Feature availability varies by Edge version, device, and market, and the documented workflow does not specifically guarantee support for every local file. Check for browser updates and try Firefox’s toolbar button or Web Console command if the option remains absent.
The screenshot includes only the visible area
Make sure you chose the browser’s full-page option rather than a standard screen capture. In Firefox, use the --fullpage command option or the entire-page toolbar button.
The image is missing content or looks wrong
Check that the browser-rendered page itself has loaded its expected content and resources, then capture again and inspect the result before sharing. Local pages can reference dependent CSS, JavaScript, or images, so a screenshot reflects what the browser was able to render.
Firefox does not save where expected
The toolbar route saves to Firefox’s Downloads directory. If you need to choose a filename, use the Web Console command with --filename page.png.
