In Chrome on Windows, the most reliable built-in way to capture an entire webpage is DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot command. It includes content below the visible viewport, unlike the ordinary Capture screenshot command, which captures only what is currently on screen.
Open the page, press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I, press Ctrl+Shift+P, type screenshot, and select Capture full size screenshot.
Capture a full webpage in Chrome on Windows
- Open the page in Chrome. Wait for the content you need to appear. If the page loads sections only as you scroll, scroll through the relevant area first so those sections have an opportunity to load.
- Open DevTools. Press F12. If your keyboard maps the function keys to hardware controls, use Ctrl+Shift+I instead.
- Open the Command Menu. Press Ctrl+Shift+P.
- Search for the capture command. Type
screenshotin the Command Menu. - Choose the full-page command. Select Capture full size screenshot. Chrome captures the whole page, including content outside the current viewport.
- Find the saved result. Use Chrome’s download behavior and your configured download location. Chrome’s documentation does not establish one universal folder, filename, or image format, so check the download prompt or the Downloads location configured in your browser.
Choose the correct Chrome command

The two commands are next to each other in DevTools, so read the full command name before selecting it. Choosing Capture screenshot by mistake produces a viewport image rather than a scrolling or full-page capture.
Prepare long or dynamic pages before capturing
Let important content load
Modern pages may fetch text, images, product cards, comments, or other sections only after they become visible. Scroll through the page once, pause where content is still loading, and then run the full-size command. This is practical preparation, not a guarantee that every site will render identically in a single capture.

Finish interactions first
Open the tab, expand the section, dismiss an overlay, or complete another interaction before opening the Command Menu. The screenshot reflects the page state at capture time. If a cookie notice or dialog covers the page, close it when the site permits; otherwise the overlay can appear in the image.
Keep the target tab active
DevTools captures the page associated with the tab where you opened it. Confirm that the correct URL and state are active before selecting the command, especially when several tabs show similar pages.
Where the image goes and what Chrome does not promise
After the command runs, Chrome handles the result through its normal download process. The exact filename, file extension, and destination are not fixed by the documented command. Check Chrome’s download shelf or downloads page and the folder selected under Chrome’s download settings instead of assuming a particular path.

The documented feature distinguishes viewport capture from full-size capture, but it does not promise identical results for every unusually long, animated, lazy-loaded, or interactive page. A page can change while it is being captured, and content that never finishes loading may be absent. For a record that must be reproducible, note the page URL, the date, and any interactions or scrolling you performed.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect full-page screenshot
The Command Menu does not open
Use Ctrl+Shift+P while DevTools is focused. If DevTools is not open, first press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I. On keyboards where function keys control volume or brightness, the Ctrl+Shift+I route avoids the F12 key.
The search returns no screenshot command
Make sure you opened Chrome DevTools rather than a page’s own search box. Click inside DevTools, reopen the Command Menu, and type screenshot. If the page is restricted or DevTools failed to load, close and reopen DevTools and try again.

You selected the wrong command
Run the Command Menu again and select the option whose full name is Capture full size screenshot. The shorter Capture screenshot option is intentionally limited to the visible viewport.
The result stops before the bottom
First, scroll through the page to trigger sections that load on demand, wait for visible loading indicators to finish, and capture again. Very long pages, pages that continuously append content, and pages with scripts that change layout can still produce an incomplete or changing result; Chrome’s documented command does not guarantee a fixed outcome for those cases.

Images or cards are blank
Scroll through the page before capture and allow lazy content time to load. Check whether the site requires a click, login, consent choice, or another interaction. If the content is blocked by an access check or never loads in the browser, a full-page command cannot include pixels that the page did not render.

A banner or chat widget covers the page
Dismiss the banner or widget if the site offers a close control, then capture again. Chrome captures the page as rendered; it does not automatically remove consent banners, newsletter forms, advertisements, or chat controls.
You cannot find the downloaded file
Open Chrome’s downloads page and inspect the download location configured in Settings. Do not rely on a universal filename or folder, because Chrome’s documented capture instructions do not specify one.
When the built-in method is the right choice
- Use DevTools for an occasional manual capture on a page you can open normally.
- Use the full-size command when one image of the complete document is more useful than a viewport crop.
- Scroll and interact first when the page uses lazy loading or hides content behind controls.
- Record the page state when the screenshot is evidence, documentation, or part of a support ticket.
The workflow requires no extension and no separate screenshot utility. Its limits are the limits of the page rendered in your browser: a blocked request, an unresolved challenge, or content that never loads cannot be captured reliably by pressing the command again.

- Capture a full page with lazy images loaded, or capture one element with a CSS selector.
- Set dark mode, one of 12 device presets, any viewport size, and a retina scale.
- Produce PDFs with paper size, margins, landscape mode, and page ranges.
- Render HTML/CSS to an image, inject custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element before capture, or hide selected elements.
- Wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle before taking the shot.
- Block ads, trackers, requests, or selected resource types.
- Supply custom headers, cookies, a user agent, or an Authorization value for controlled pages.
- Set timezone and geolocation, use a transparent background, or resize the resulting image.
- Cache captures with a TTL you choose, create signed links for public
<img>tags, submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, and capture up to 100 URLs per bulk call. - Use the usage API and OpenAPI specification for monitoring and integration. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.
