To upload SingleFile archives directly to Google Drive, open the extension’s options, enable Destination > save to Google Drive, then use SingleFile’s context menu to turn on auto-save for the current tab, unpinned tabs, or all tabs. SingleFile says it saves pages after they load, or before they unload if they have not finished loading. If you want to keep using your browser’s local download folder, you can instead add that computer folder to Google Drive for desktop sync.
Choose direct upload or local-folder sync
SingleFile saves a complete web page as a standalone HTML archive. It supports two workflows for getting those files into Drive; choose based on whether you want the extension to upload directly or want to keep a local-folder workflow.
| Workflow | Choose it when | Local copy and storage |
|---|---|---|
| SingleFile’s Google Drive destination | You want SingleFile to send archives directly to Drive without setting up a separate folder sync. | The destination is Drive. The cited SingleFile documentation does not specify a local-copy option for this workflow. |
| Browser download folder plus Drive for desktop | You want archives saved to the browser’s configured download folder and that computer folder synced to Drive. | Google’s guide says local computer folders are mirrored, so a full local copy uses disk space. |
SingleFile’s project documentation lists Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Vivaldi, Brave, Waterfox, Yandex Browser, and Opera. Extension controls can differ between browsers, so check the current options in the browser you use. SingleFile project
Set up direct SingleFile uploads to Drive
- Open SingleFile’s extension options. Depending on the browser, right-click the extension button and choose Manage extension or Options. The available wording can vary.
- Enable the Drive destination. In SingleFile’s options, go to Destination and enable save to Google Drive. The Chrome Web Store listing also describes this Drive destination and the auto-save feature. SingleFile on the Chrome Web Store
- Choose which tabs auto-save. Open SingleFile’s context menu and activate auto-save for the current tab, unpinned tabs, or all tabs. Pick the narrowest scope that fits your workflow.
- Let the page load. SingleFile’s project says pages are saved after loading, or before unloading if they have not loaded yet. For pages that need more time to finish loading, avoid closing or navigating away too quickly.
These documented controls establish the direct-upload and auto-save behavior. The extension’s live labels or layout may change, so use the options shown in your installed version.

Use Drive for desktop when you want a local archive folder
SingleFile’s default local save location is the download folder configured in your browser. If you prefer to keep saving there, add that computer folder to Google Drive for desktop’s sync setup. Google documents adding computer folders for syncing in its Drive for desktop setup guide.
- Check which folder your browser uses for downloads.
- Set up Drive for desktop and add that computer folder for syncing, following Google’s current setup instructions.
- Save SingleFile pages as usual, then check Drive for desktop’s sync status before assuming recent archives are available in Drive.
Google distinguishes streaming from mirroring for Drive files: streaming keeps files primarily in the cloud and uses little local storage, while mirroring keeps a full local copy. Its guide says local computer folders can only be mirrored, so syncing the browser’s local archive folder retains those files on the computer and consumes local disk space. See Google’s streaming and mirroring guide.

Check sync status before moving or deleting folders
If you use Drive for desktop, wait until recent archive changes have finished syncing before moving or deleting the mirrored folder. Google warns that deleting a mirrored folder before recent changes finish uploading can result in unsynced changes being lost. Its sync-mode safety guidance covers this risk. Work or school administrators may also restrict Drive for desktop or manage its installation; Google notes this in its desktop setup information.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- There is no Google Drive destination option: Reopen SingleFile’s extension options and look under Destination. Confirm that the installed extension is SingleFile and consult its project documentation for your browser; the controls and labels may vary by browser or version. SingleFile project
- Pages are not being saved automatically: Check that auto-save was activated for the intended scope—current tab, unpinned tabs, or all tabs—and that save to Google Drive is enabled as the destination.
- Recent files are missing from Drive: For the desktop workflow, check Drive for desktop’s sync status and allow pending changes to finish uploading. Do not delete or move the mirrored folder while changes remain unsynced.
- The mirrored archive folder is using too much disk space: This is expected for local computer folders in Google’s documented workflow: they are mirrored and retain a full local copy. If you need to reduce local storage use, consider SingleFile’s direct Drive destination instead of syncing the local download folder.
- Drive for desktop is unavailable on a managed computer: A work or school administrator may control installation or restrict use. Check with the administrator or use SingleFile’s direct Drive destination if it is available in your setup.
