“Enhanced 4G” is usually a carrier’s name for enhanced voice calling over LTE, commonly called VoLTE. iPhone does not have one universal setting with that name. Open Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and choose the supported 4G/LTE or VoLTE option if it appears. The menu varies by iPhone, carrier, and region; if the option is missing, your carrier can confirm whether your device and line support it.
What “Enhanced 4G” means on an iPhone
Enhanced 4G is carrier-specific wording, often used for VoLTE or HD voice. VoLTE means voice calls are carried over an LTE network. Verizon, for example, describes its HD Voice service as VoLTE over its 4G LTE network (Verizon’s HD Voice FAQs). AT&T’s guide for the iPhone SE (2nd generation) likewise describes VoLTE calls over its 4G LTE data network (AT&T’s iPhone SE (2nd generation) guide).
Apple’s iPhone guide uses labels such as Voice & Data (VoLTE) and 4G/LTE, rather than a single “Enhanced 4G” switch. The available controls depend on the iPhone model, carrier, and region (Apple’s cellular data settings guide).

- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular. In some regions or iOS versions, this may be called Mobile Data.
- Tap Cellular Data Options.
- Tap Voice & Data, if it is available.
- Choose the carrier-supported 4G/LTE or VoLTE option shown on your iPhone. The precise choices vary. On some iPhones with 5G plans, the menu may instead offer options such as 5G Auto, 5G On, or LTE.
Apple notes that 4G/LTE can load internet data faster in some cases, but may reduce battery performance. On iPhone 12 and later with a 5G data plan, 5G Auto can switch to LTE when 5G does not provide noticeably better performance. These are network-selection choices; they do not guarantee that VoLTE is enabled for your line.

Network mode and VoLTE are related, but not the same setting
An LTE or 4G selection concerns which cellular network mode the phone can use. VoLTE concerns whether calls are carried over LTE. Depending on the carrier and device configuration, VoLTE may have its own visible control, appear alongside network choices, or be managed by the carrier without a separate switch. Seeing LTE on the screen or selecting LTE does not by itself prove that VoLTE is provisioned for your account.
Why the VoLTE option may be missing
If Voice & Data or a VoLTE choice does not appear, that does not necessarily mean you missed a setting. Apple says cellular options vary by model, carrier, and region, and directs users to their wireless provider for cellular-service questions. Ask your carrier whether your iPhone model, SIM or eSIM, plan, and account are supported and provisioned for VoLTE, and whether it offers a user-visible toggle. A carrier may manage the service without showing a switch in iOS.
