To leave Visual mode while editing a post or page, open the Block Editor’s three-dot Options menu, then choose Editor > Code editor. This switches the current editing screen to code; it does not disable visual editing for your account or replace the Block Editor with the Classic Editor.
Switch the current post or page to Code editor
- Open the post or page in the Block Editor.
- Select the three-dot Options menu in the top toolbar.
- Under Editor, select Code editor.
- To return to the visual interface, reopen the same menu and select Visual editor.
WordPress opens the Block Editor in Visual mode by default. Code editor is its built-in alternative for viewing or editing the post or page’s markup. The change applies to the current editing interface; it is not a setting to disable rich editing across your user account. See the WordPress Block Editor documentation.
Disable visual editing for a user
If you are looking for the old profile checkbox, WordPress 6.8 changed how it appears. The control to disable visual editing is shown only for users who had already enabled that setting; users who had not opted out cannot newly check it in the profile. If it was already enabled, it remains available to turn back off. WordPress Core explains the change in its WordPress 6.8 developer note and accessibility improvements note.
For a user who needs rich editing disabled, Core says the rich_editing user option remains valid and documents this developer-level example:

Use the Classic Editor screen instead
If by “remove Visual editor” you mean replacing the Block Editor with the older editing screen, install and configure the official Classic Editor plugin. It restores the classic editing screen, and its settings can allow users to switch editors or choose one per user. What users see depends on the plugin settings and site configuration. This is distinct from selecting Code editor in the Block Editor.

When a Classic block is enough
If you only need classic-style editing for one area of a post, insert a Classic block rather than changing the whole editor. The block offers classic visual editing tools inside the Block Editor; it does not restore the full Classic Editor screen. Details are in the Classic block documentation.
The Block Editor’s Preferences menu customizes aspects of the editing experience, but WordPress documentation does not present it as the control for switching off Visual mode. For that, use the Editor section of the Options menu; see the Preferences overview.
