You can stream TIDAL on Linux through its web player at listen.TIDAL.com, or use independent community-made Linux players. TIDAL’s current download page does not list a Linux desktop app; its support page explicitly said the desktop app was not compatible with Ubuntu in an update dated June 21, 2023. The web player is the simplest option, while community clients offer Linux-specific features with their own compatibility limits.
Does TIDAL have an official Linux app?
Linux is absent from TIDAL’s current download page, which lists macOS 14 or later, Windows 10 or later, Android, and iOS. A TIDAL Support page updated June 21, 2023 stated that its desktop application was not compatible with Ubuntu Linux. That statement is dated, but the current download listing still does not name Linux as a supported desktop platform.
TIDAL does describe HiRes FLAC support through desktop and web applications, as well as iOS and Android. That platform description does not amount to an official Linux desktop app listing; check the quality options shown in your own browser and account.
Option 1: Use TIDAL in a browser
- Open listen.TIDAL.com in a current browser.
- Sign in to your TIDAL account and choose music to play.
- Check the player’s available audio-quality settings for your browser and account.
The browser route requires no Linux-specific installation. TIDAL’s June 2023 support page said Safari and Microsoft Edge did not support HiFi web playback in the described context, and that Masters playback required the app. Its current download page separately says HiRes FLAC is supported through web applications. Because the guidance differs by page and date, do not assume every browser has the same quality ceiling: verify what your player offers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If browser playback fails
TIDAL’s basic troubleshooting guidance, updated January 9, 2026, recommends checking the following:
- Update the browser and temporarily disable extensions or ad blockers that may interfere.
- Check that firewall or antivirus software allows the browser to connect, then clear browser data if needed.
- Enable DRM if your browser requires it. For Brave, TIDAL specifically advises disabling Shields for TIDAL and toggling Widevine DRM.
- Check whether another device is already playing. TIDAL says online activity allows one stream per user, and another active stream can interrupt playback.
Option 2: Install an independent Linux player
Community projects provide native Linux interfaces, but neither client below is an official TIDAL app. Their features and compatibility are project claims, and can change as TIDAL’s service or the software evolves.

| Choice | Interface and installation | Audio output and project caveats |
|---|---|---|
| tidalt | Terminal-focused player with daemon mode. Its project documents packages or installation paths for Arch, Debian/Ubuntu, and Fedora. | Documents direct ALSA hw: output. The project says it requires a HiFi or HiFi Plus subscription. Some USB interfaces expose fixed formats that do not work with its bit-perfect path; its ALSA plug-layer fallback may resample or remix. |
| SONE | Graphical Linux client. Its project documents Flatpak and package formats for multiple distributions. | Claims exclusive ALSA output and support up to 24-bit/192kHz. It requires a valid paid TIDAL subscription, does not support offline downloads, and documents fallback behavior when hardware formats do not match. The project says it is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by TIDAL. |
Installing and choosing a community client
Use each project’s own repository for its current installation instructions and package options. Choose SONE if you prefer a graphical interface; choose tidalt if you want a terminal-based player or daemon. Neither project’s stated quality capabilities guarantee the same result on every Linux setup: the selected output device, audio format, and fallback path matter.
What do exclusive output and a DAC change?
In TIDAL’s Exclusive Mode guidance, updated January 9, 2026, exclusive mode gives TIDAL control of the audio output device and requires a DAC connected to a PC or Mac. TIDAL says to adjust volume in the app while this mode is enabled.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
SONE and tidalt describe direct or exclusive ALSA paths on Linux, but they are different implementations from TIDAL’s official desktop app. Direct output may bypass the system mixer; whether the playback path is bit-perfect depends on the device and configuration. A DAC is optional for listening, and buying one does not provide official Linux app support or guarantee bit-perfect playback.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Linux option should you use?
- For the simplest setup: use TIDAL’s web player and check its available quality settings.
- For a graphical Linux client: consider SONE, understanding that it is independent and does not support offline downloads.
- For terminal control or daemon use: consider tidalt, and check whether your audio interface supports the project’s direct ALSA path.
There is no universally best choice established by these project descriptions. The practical trade-off is browser simplicity versus third-party Linux features and their device-specific limitations.
