You can run a continuous Tamil music stream by looping authorized media with FFmpeg on a VPS and sending it to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The loop command is straightforward; the harder parts are clearing the rights for every recording and performance, choosing a VPS that can sustain the encode and upload, and monitoring the stream. Neither FFmpeg nor YouTube guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Before you start: clear the music and visuals
Get permission for every musical work, sound recording, and performance in the stream, as well as any visual material. Confirm that the permission covers a continuous public online stream in the territories where you intend to make it available. This article cannot determine the rights status of any particular Tamil song. Do not assume that having a license prevents YouTube interruptions. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” It may replace a stream with a placeholder, warn you, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast if matched material remains. What you need
- An India-region VPS with enough CPU for the chosen encoding settings and sustained outbound capacity above the media bitrate, including room for protocol overhead and fluctuations.
- A continuous or loopable media file with audio and a compatible visual. Test that it plays correctly before streaming.
- A current FFmpeg build installed on the VPS.
- A YouTube channel able to create a live stream, and the ingest address and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- A plan for process supervision, logging, restart behavior, source-file availability, and alerts. These are operational choices, not guarantees of uptime.
No particular VPS provider or plan is established here. Before choosing one, verify India-region availability, CPU capacity, sustained outbound transfer or fair-use limits, storage, uptime terms, and current price directly with the provider.

Choose a YouTube ingest profile
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, AAC/MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport and a keyframe every two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264, its example recommendations are 3 Mbps video at 720p30 or 5 Mbps at 1080p30; the recommended stereo audio bitrate is 128 Kbps. These are platform recommendations, not evidence that a particular VPS can sustain them. YouTube Help: live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Start with the profile your VPS can encode and upload steadily. Higher resolution and frame rate require suitable CPU and bandwidth; test with audio and motion like the intended programme. The incoming bitrate is not the same as viewers’ playback bitrate: YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into multiple output formats.

Set up the YouTube live stream and keep its key private
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to set up the broadcast in Live Control Room. The labels and available options may vary with account eligibility and YouTube’s interface.
- Use the ingest address and stream key provided in Live Control Room. Choose RTMPS when the supplied ingest option supports it.
- Store the stream key in a protected configuration or secret store on the VPS. Do not put it in a public script, paste it into a forum, or include it in logs. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
Loop the authorized media with FFmpeg
The core input pattern is:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i /path/to/authorized-media.mp4
This is only an input fragment, not a complete streaming command. FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite input looping and -re as reading a file at its native rate; place both input options before the relevant -i. Replace the example path with your authorized source. FFmpeg documentation.

To complete a command, you must match the file’s streams and your chosen profile: select or map the intended video and audio, set compatible codecs, dimensions, frame rate, CBR video bitrate and buffer settings, stereo audio bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval. Then provide the RTMPS output address and the private stream key from Live Control Room. Those values depend on your file and current YouTube setup, so there is no safe universal full command to copy without inspecting both. Test the command with the actual source before starting the public broadcast.
Launch, supervise, and monitor the stream
- Confirm the source file is readable by the account running FFmpeg and that it has the expected audio and visual streams.
- Start FFmpeg under a process supervisor or service manager configured to restart it after an unexpected exit. Set up log rotation and alerts so a restart loop or missing input does not go unnoticed.
- Check Live Control Room’s stream health and messages after connecting. YouTube advises testing with audio and motion similar to the planned stream; monitor the dashboard during the broadcast. Its guidance does not promise that the stream will remain uninterrupted.
- After any interruption, check Studio messages and restrictions before restarting. A restart will not resolve a rights match or account restriction; address the underlying cause first.
Troubleshoot common failures

Cost and reliability considerations for an India VPS
There is no single VPS price or capacity that can be recommended without a provider, plan, and workload. Compare the cost of the VPS and any storage or transfer charges with the CPU needed for encoding, sustained outbound limits, region, and operational support. A small test is not proof that the same plan will maintain the full stream indefinitely; check its terms and monitor real performance.

FFmpeg looping only repeats the input while the process and source remain available. A VPS can still lose connectivity, run out of resources, or encounter a provider or YouTube-side interruption. Design for detection and recovery, and treat 24/7 as an operating goal rather than a guarantee.
