To play prerecorded videos as one continuing YouTube Live channel, send a continuous feed from an encoder or cloud playout service to a YouTube broadcast. YouTube Studio can schedule encoder-based live events, but its documented scheduling controls do not establish a built-in service that automatically queues prerecorded videos into a continuous channel. If you want one destination that keeps playing while your computer is off, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is an option; for a hands-on setup, use an encoder and manage the playlist and stream yourself.
First, decide what “scheduled videos” means
There are two different workflows that can sound like a continuous channel:
- Separate scheduled live events: Each event has its own scheduled start and broadcast on YouTube. YouTube Studio’s encoder workflow supports this.
- One continuous live destination: A single incoming feed keeps the same live destination active while prerecorded programs play in sequence. This requires something to provide and maintain that feed, such as an encoder with playout software or a cloud playout service.
YouTube’s API documentation distinguishes a liveBroadcast, which represents the event, from a liveStream, which represents the audiovisual feed. Its examples include a 24/7 feed and binding streams to broadcasts, but that resource model is not evidence that YouTube itself schedules and plays a library of video files. Option 1: Use YouTube Studio for separate scheduled events
Choose this route if you want each program to be a distinct scheduled broadcast rather than an automatically sequenced, continuous channel. You need a compatible encoder to send the audiovisual feed to YouTube.

- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Follow the on-screen settings for the event.
- Configure the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a tutorial screenshot, or share it with people who should not broadcast to your channel.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview in the Live Control Room. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present before proceeding.
- Go live using the scheduled broadcast controls. Once YouTube shows the feed and you are ready, use the Live Control Room controls to start the scheduled event.
- End the event cleanly. Use YouTube’s controls to end the stream, then stop sending from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same archive behavior for longer streams. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
YouTube also provides auto-start and auto-stop settings for streams. Those settings concern starting or stopping a broadcast; they should not be mistaken for a scheduler that selects and plays a prerecorded-video playlist. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the event workflow and stream settings.
Option 2: Keep one prerecorded-video feed running continuously
For one ongoing destination, the encoder or playout system must keep sending video to YouTube and decide what file plays next. In a do-it-yourself setup, that generally means preparing a playlist in software capable of continuous video playout, connecting its output to an encoder, and sending the feed with the stream URL and key. The exact playlist and scheduling controls depend on the software you choose; YouTube’s documented broadcast workflow does not supply those controls by itself.

- Prepare the program queue. Put the videos in the order you want them to play, check that each file has working picture and audio, and decide what should happen when the final item ends: loop the playlist, stop the feed, or switch to another program.
- Set up the playout and encoder. Configure the playout software to output the queued video continuously, then configure the encoder to send that output to the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Studio. Do not expose the key in a public playlist, screen recording, or shared configuration.
- Test before scheduling viewers. Start the encoder early enough to check YouTube’s incoming preview. Verify picture, sound, and the correct program order before you take the broadcast live.
- Monitor the live feed. Check that the YouTube watch page is reachable and that both video and audio continue as expected. A playlist that advances locally does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
- Plan for interruptions and shutdown. Decide who will notice a dropped feed and how it will be restarted. When ending a scheduled event, end it in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube recommends testing backup-encoder failover and checking that local archive files are being written; these checks do not guarantee uninterrupted service. YouTube’s guidance says, “For higher production value events, we recommend professional-grade hardware encoders.” That is an optional equipment category for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for every stream and not, by itself, a prerecorded-video scheduler. Reliability checks before you rely on the stream
- Check the YouTube preview: Confirm that the expected picture and audio arrive before going live.
- Verify viewer access: Check that the live stream is reachable on the channel and watch pages.
- Monitor the actual broadcast: Keep an eye on both audio and video rather than assuming a running encoder means a healthy YouTube feed.
- Test recovery: If using backup equipment, test failover in advance. No workflow described here guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Check archives: If you rely on local recordings, confirm they are being written. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; longer streams are outside that stated threshold.

Protect the stream key and the channel’s rights
A stream key authorizes an encoder to send a feed to your channel. Keep it private and restrict access to the encoder configuration. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key; the old value will no longer be the one to use. Before putting a recording into a live playlist, make sure you have the rights needed to stream its video and audio. A file being available to download or already uploaded does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel and content; this guide does not determine whether a particular recording is cleared.

Common problems and what to check

Can one YouTube stream feed be associated with multiple broadcasts?
YouTube’s Live Streaming API reference says a stream can be bound to more than one broadcast, while each broadcast binds to one stream. That API relationship does not itself schedule video-file playback.
