To broadcast a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live stream over BSNL broadband, play the file through an encoder such as OBS Studio, connect the encoder to YouTube with a stream URL and key, and start the event in YouTube Studio. Choose the bitrate based on your measured, stable upload speed—not the download speed advertised for your BSNL plan.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel eligible to livestream. If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. The channel must not have had a live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- A computer that can play the video and run encoder software, such as OBS Studio. YouTube supports software and hardware encoder workflows; buying dedicated hardware is not inherently necessary. YouTube encoder setup.
- A stable BSNL connection with enough upload capacity for the stream’s chosen bitrate, plus any bandwidth needed by other devices using the connection.
- Permission to livestream all video and audio in the file, and to retain the stream archive if you plan to keep it.
Measure your BSNL upload before choosing quality
Run a speed test and look at the upload result. An advertised download speed does not tell you how much upload bandwidth is consistently available for a live stream. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual program and monitoring stream health and encoder messages while broadcasting. YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.
The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 ingest recommendations, not claims about the upload speed available on any BSNL plan. Start conservatively, run a representative test, and lower the bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the stream.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Video setting | YouTube-listed minimum bitrate | YouTube-listed recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are encoder targets, not guaranteed outcomes: a stream can still stall if upload varies or other traffic competes for bandwidth. A wired connection can help determine whether Wi-Fi is part of the problem, but it cannot fix a line, routing, or plan limitation. BSNL terms and performance can vary by location and subscription, so check the current terms for your own circle and plan.

Configure the encoder for YouTube Live
For a compatibility-oriented setup, use H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says it must not exceed four seconds. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS; its listed audio options include AAC and MP3, and it supports frame rates up to 60 fps. Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it; it encrypts the stream between the encoder and Google’s servers. YouTube’s encoder settings.
Set the video resolution and frame rate to match what your upload can reliably sustain. If you are unsure, start with a lower setting, test with the intended file, and increase quality only after confirming stable stream health.

Start the prerecorded video as a live stream
- Prepare the video. Confirm that it plays correctly on the computer and that you have the rights to all included footage, music, and other audio.
- Create the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live. Create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule one. Scheduling creates a watch page viewers can visit and gives them a chance to set reminders. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup flow if the interface labels differ for your channel or event type. YouTube encoder setup.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or publish it. You can manage or reset stream keys in Live Control Room. YouTube encoder setup.
- Set the file as the encoder’s video source. In your encoder, choose the prerecorded file for playback and set the video, audio, bitrate, and keyframe settings described above. The encoder sends the file’s playback to YouTube; selecting the file does not upload it as an ordinary YouTube video.
- Check the preview and health. Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room. Check the preview, audio, and stream-health messages before making the event public.
- Go live in YouTube Studio. When the preview is ready, click Go live in Live Control Room. The encoder supplies the video; YouTube Studio controls the live event.
- End and verify the event. Stop the broadcast when playback is complete, then check YouTube Studio to confirm the event ended as intended. Keep a local copy if preserving the full recording matters.
Protect rights and the replay
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to use the video and audio in the live transmission and any archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. YouTube’s livestream terms say creators must have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights. YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube can automatically archive a live stream that is under 12 hours, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the complete event matters, keep a local recording rather than relying on the YouTube archive alone. YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Other ways to automate prerecorded playback
Encoder software on a computer
This is the straightforward starting point for one-off broadcasts or setups where you want direct control over file playback. The computer and encoder need to remain running for the broadcast, so test playback and the connection before an unattended event.
Specialized hardware
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. This is a specialized route for people who need hardware-based scheduling; check current device availability and program terms before relying on it. YouTube encoder setup.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live event | The channel has not completed live activation, is not verified, or has a live-stream restriction. | Check channel eligibility in YouTube Studio. For first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming. YouTube eligibility requirements. |
| Encoder will not connect | The stream URL or key is wrong, or the key is no longer valid. | Copy the current details from Live Control Room and replace them in the encoder. Reset the key there if needed; keep the new key private. YouTube encoder setup. |
| Stream health is poor, or viewers see buffering | The chosen bitrate is higher than the sustained upload capacity, or upload is fluctuating. | Run another upload test, reduce bitrate or resolution, and test again with representative audio and motion. Check whether other devices are using the connection; try wired Ethernet to isolate Wi-Fi issues. A wired connection will not resolve a BSNL line or plan limitation. |
| Preview appears without the expected video or audio | The encoder may be using the wrong source, playback may not have started, or the source audio may not be reaching the encoder. | Check file playback and the encoder’s selected video and audio sources before clicking Go live. |
| Live stream is interrupted after a copyright match | YouTube detected third-party material, or a rights holder has not allowlisted the channel for Content ID. | Use content you are authorized to livestream and archive. Resolve permissions with the rights holder before trying again; a license does not necessarily remove the need for Content ID allowlisting. |
| The complete broadcast is missing from the archive | The event lasted longer than 12 hours or archiving did not preserve the full stream. | Save a local recording whenever the full event is important; YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured. |
