To run prerecorded video as a continuous YouTube Live stream from India, use an always-on Linux virtual machine (VM) in an Indian cloud region, an encoder such as FFmpeg, and YouTube’s RTMPS ingest URL and stream key. Upload or stage media on the VM, configure the encoder to loop it, then test and monitor the feed. A cloud region in India does not by itself guarantee a particular VM’s sustained upload capacity or uninterrupted service.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and content rights
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current Help guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check the current requirements for the channel you plan to use before provisioning a server: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Make sure you own the videos and audio or have permission to broadcast them. A working encoder and valid stream key do not grant the rights to retransmit music, films, devotional recordings, or other third-party material. Review YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content.

Choose an always-on VM based on the available instance types, sustained outbound network capacity, expected egress charges, storage needs, and the recovery arrangements you can operate. A provider’s region listing confirms location availability, not performance for your workload or a price advantage.

Prepare the video and looping workflow
Stage the prerecorded files where the encoder can read them, either on the VM’s disk or from storage accessible to it. Allow enough disk space for the media, logs, and any temporary files, and confirm that the VM can read every file in the planned sequence.
Use an encoder such as FFmpeg and configure its supported looping or playlist approach for your media. There is no single playlist syntax established here for every encoder setup, so validate the exact method against the installed encoder version and files before relying on it for a continuous broadcast. Check that transitions, audio, and the end-to-start loop behave as intended.

Create the YouTube live stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and open the stream settings.
- Copy the RTMPS server URL and stream key YouTube supplies for that stream. The URL and key must match the broadcast configuration.
- Enter them in the server-side encoder configuration. Use RTMPS rather than plain RTMP where supported, and keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Do not place the key in a public script, repository, screenshot, or log. Restrict access to the configuration that contains it and replace the key in YouTube if you believe it has been exposed.
RTMPS carries RTMP through a TLS-secured connection; YouTube’s developer guidance specifies port 443 for RTMPS. Use the exact endpoint YouTube provides rather than guessing a host or path. See YouTube Live Streaming API: RTMPS ingestion.
Set encoder output to match the source and server
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. Use the current YouTube encoder settings as the configuration reference.

Choose an output the server can send steadily and that makes sense for the source. A higher bitrate means more ongoing outbound traffic and potentially higher egress cost. YouTube transcodes incoming video for viewers, so the server’s task is to deliver a valid, stable input stream; it does not need to generate every viewer playback rendition itself.

Test the feed before leaving it unattended
- Start with a representative video that includes the most demanding motion and audio you expect to stream.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview before making the broadcast public.
- Inspect YouTube’s stream-health indicators and any messages, then listen to and watch the feed for sync, level, black frames, or other defects.
- Confirm that the loop or playlist continues correctly through a file boundary and that the VM’s outbound connection remains stable at the chosen output settings.
- Only after the test succeeds should you leave the process running for an extended broadcast.
YouTube recommends testing before a stream and monitoring stream health, messages, audio, and video. Its guidance is at YouTube Help: troubleshoot live stream issues.
Plan for continuous operation and recovery
A 24/7 setup needs more than an encoder command. Treat process supervision and monitoring as your own operational responsibilities, not as guarantees from YouTube or a cloud provider.
- Use a service manager or supervisor to detect an exited encoder process and restart it according to a deliberate policy.
- Keep logs and check them after failures; configure alerts for a stopped process, low disk space, and loss of expected outbound traffic.
- Test restart behavior, including what happens if the VM reboots or the encoder loses its connection to YouTube.
- For workflows where the added cost and complexity are justified, consider a backup encoder. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents primary and backup ingestion addresses for supported workflows; see the liveStreams resource.
Do not promise zero interruptions. A VM can lose connectivity, a process can fail, and YouTube can report an ingest problem; the purpose of supervision and monitoring is to detect and recover from faults, not to make them impossible.

Understand what 24/7 does—and does not—establish
The documented encoder and API guidance explains how to send and monitor a live feed, but it does not establish a universal maximum duration for this specific continuous prerecorded workflow or guarantee indefinite retention of an archive. Check the current YouTube Studio and Help rules for the channel and broadcast configuration you will use. Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will be archived or retained indefinitely.

Include the VM’s running time, disk or media storage, and outbound data transfer in your estimate. For a rough illustration, a 14 Mbps video stream sends about 6.3 GB per hour of video payload before protocol overhead; actual transferred volume can vary. Use the bitrate you select and the provider’s current account- and region-specific egress rates to calculate your own cost. The YouTube bitrate recommendation is not a measurement of the VM’s network capacity.
