You can stream a prerecorded video to YouTube around the clock by running an encoder on a VPS and sending its output to a YouTube Live stream. YouTube’s Live Streaming API guide describes a 24/7 channel feed as a use case, but that is not a promise of uninterrupted uptime: eligibility, server and network reliability, content rights, and YouTube policies still matter. An India-based VPS may suit an India-focused audience, but choose it by its sustained bandwidth, encoding capacity, and total cost—not location alone.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16. Check current eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- A video you have the rights to stream, and a plan for how the channel will meet YouTube’s monetization rules if you intend to earn from it.
- A VPS with enough sustained outbound bandwidth and compute capacity for your chosen video and encoding method.
- An encoder capable of sending a continuous feed to YouTube Live, plus a way to monitor and restart it if it stops.
There is no provider-neutral, tested command established here for looping a file on a VPS. The exact encoder steps and settings depend on the software, server operating system, video format, and target stream. Avoid copying an untested command into production; validate your encoder’s own instructions and test the full path before relying on it.
How to stream a prerecorded video from a VPS
- Confirm channel eligibility. Sign in to YouTube and verify that live streaming is available for the channel. YouTube’s general guidance says the channel must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; it also sets a minimum age of 16. Requirements can change, so check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create or schedule a live stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the event. Obtain its stream URL and stream key. Enter these in your encoder exactly as YouTube provides them; treat the key like a password, do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Choose the secure ingestion endpoint. Configure the encoder to send to YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint rather than assuming an ordinary RTMP URL is encrypted. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through an SSL connection and specifies a valid endpoint and port 443. See the YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Prepare the VPS and media. Decide whether the video will be stored on the server or read from another location. Ensure there is enough disk space if it is stored on the VPS, and verify that the encoder can read the file and produce a continuous output. If you use software encoding, confirm the VPS has sufficient CPU capacity for the selected output; passthrough and re-encoding have different compute needs.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start the feed, then inspect it in Live Control Room. Confirm that video and audio are present, the playback is accessible, and the encoder is not reporting errors. YouTube’s preparation tips advise configuring the encoder at least two hours before a stream and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead of a scheduled event. These are event-preparation recommendations, not a 24/7 uptime guarantee. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Keep watch and test recovery. Monitor the process, server, and stream status. Plan how the encoder will restart after a process or server failure, and test that recovery procedure before leaving the stream unattended. YouTube’s guidance mentions testing encoder failover; a single VPS does not itself guarantee continuous service.
How to choose an India VPS for a 24/7 stream
No particular India VPS provider or plan can be recommended from the available verified provider data. Compare the actual terms and capabilities against your stream rather than relying on a generic “India VPS” label.

RTMPS, YouTube’s API, and the 24/7 use case
RTMPS is the encrypted form of RTMP described in YouTube’s ingestion documentation. YouTube recommends it as a good choice for most ordinary user content, especially when low latency matters. Use the endpoint and port specified in the current RTMPS guide; do not assume that any RTMP address provides encryption.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API models a broadcast as an event and a stream as the feed sent to YouTube. Its guide says a stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts and gives a 24/7 channel feed as an example. That is an API resource description, not a guarantee that one scheduled event will never end or that every channel has identical limits. Read the YouTube Live Streaming API guide for the API model.
YouTube also documents DASH ingestion for encoder vendors implementing that delivery method. Its requirements include MPD and initialization-segment timing, separate PUT requests, updates at least every 60 seconds, and a closed GOP of about two seconds and less than eight seconds. These are DASH-specific requirements, not settings every RTMPS user must configure. Refer to the DASH ingestion guide only if your encoder uses DASH.

Copyright and monetization are separate checks
Having permission to stream a video does not automatically make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to live streams and assesses reused content separately from copyright enforcement. The policy says content may be ineligible even when permission exists if the channel does not add significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value; review is channel-wide. Assess the source material, what you add, and the channel as a whole against YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Troubleshooting a VPS stream
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that the encoder is running, the stream key is correct, and the configured endpoint and port match YouTube’s current RTMPS instructions. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- The feed starts but stops later: Check encoder and server logs, process status, network interruptions, and provider traffic limits. Configure monitoring and a tested restart or failover procedure; restarting the process does not fix an underlying bandwidth or server problem.
- Video or audio is missing in preview: Confirm the encoder is reading the intended file and producing both audio and video. Review the preview and encoder status before leaving the stream unattended.
- The VPS struggles while encoding: Check CPU load and the encoding method. A software-encoding workload may exceed the plan’s capacity; compare the needed compute against the provider’s actual plan terms before changing the stream workflow.
- The stream is accessible but monetization is a concern: Review rights and monetization eligibility independently. A license alone does not establish that reused content meets YouTube’s channel-level review.
