You can stream prerecorded exam lessons as a YouTube Live feed by playing the recordings through an encoder connected to a YouTube live event. First confirm that your channel can livestream, prepare lessons you have the rights to use, then create the event, connect the encoder and check the preview. A continuous prerecorded setup is not expressly guaranteed to be approved or monetized in every case, so follow YouTube’s current rules and treat monetization as a separate question from copyright permission.
What you need to stream recorded classes continuously
- A YouTube channel with live-stream access.
- Prerecorded lesson files and an encoder capable of sending their playback as the video and audio feed. The sources cited here do not establish a required encoder product, computer specification or hardware configuration.
- A live event in YouTube Live Control Room and its stream details for the encoder.
- Rights to use the complete lesson package, including any third-party material.
YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the transmitted feed: a broadcast is an event people watch, while a stream is the video feed sent to YouTube. Its developer documentation describes how streams can be configured and associated with broadcasts; this model explains the roles of the event and encoder, but does not guarantee approval for every 24/7 prerecorded arrangement. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and the LiveStreams API documentation.
How to set up a 24/7 YouTube Live lesson stream
- Check live access. In YouTube Studio, confirm your channel can livestream before preparing the event. Access is a prerequisite; do not assume a channel can go live until Studio permits it.
- Prepare the lesson files. Check that the files play as intended and that you have rights for their video, audio and other included materials. Plan the lesson order and transitions so the feed can continue through the material you intend to show.
- Create or schedule an event. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the viewer-facing broadcast. The event is the watch destination; it is distinct from the encoder’s transmitted stream.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the stream details supplied for the event into your encoder and select the lesson playback as its media source. The encoder sends the file’s video and audio to YouTube. The sources cited here do not prescribe specific bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval or encoder settings, so use the settings and compatibility guidance shown for your chosen encoder and YouTube workflow rather than relying on unsupported universal values.
- Check the preview and stream health. Before sharing the event with students, verify that Live Control Room receives the feed and that picture and sound are correct. Resolve any warning shown there before directing viewers to the stream.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch for stream-health or copyright notices and act on them. Keep any rights records available; where you have licensed third-party material, ask the relevant rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist if needed.
Choose a continuous stream or separate class events
A continuous broadcast gives students one ongoing live destination, while separate scheduled events can make individual classes easier to locate. Choose based on how students will find the right lesson and how you want to manage transitions or interruptions. The official materials cited here describe the broadcast-and-stream model, but do not provide a complete comparison of live broadcasts with scheduled videos or Premieres.

YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions require live content to comply with Community Guidelines and say the provider must have the necessary rights for live and archived content on Google services, including relevant music rights, while meeting applicable requirements in the territory. For an exam lesson, check the lecture recording, slides, diagrams, question-bank excerpts, music, animations and third-party clips. Permission to teach a subject does not by itself establish permission to reproduce a publisher’s questions, graphics or recordings.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder image and warning; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license may not prevent interruption unless the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Resolve rights questions with the relevant rights holder before going live.
Copyright permission and monetization are separate
Having permission to use lesson materials does not guarantee that a channel will be monetized. YouTube’s channel monetization policies describe reused content as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modifications or educational or entertainment value. The review can affect monetization across a channel and is separate from copyright enforcement.

On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it was clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced content is included in its “inauthentic content” policy, and that this was not a change to the reused-content policy. These policy descriptions do not predict how YouTube will assess a particular channel. The reviewed official materials do not expressly settle whether every continuous 24/7 prerecorded lesson setup is acceptable or monetizable; do not treat the workflow as blanket approval.

Troubleshooting common problems
- The event does not receive a feed: Confirm the event’s stream details were entered correctly in the encoder, the intended media source is selected and the encoder is sending.
- The preview has no picture or sound: Check that the lesson file plays correctly and that the encoder is capturing both its video and audio; inspect the preview before sharing the event.
- YouTube shows a copyright warning or placeholder: Identify the matched material, stop or replace it if you lack rights, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you have a license. A license alone may not prevent the live interruption.
- The stream is interrupted or terminated: Check Live Control Room for a warning and address the underlying rights or policy issue before restarting. Do not assume that restarting resolves an unresolved match.
- You expect monetization but do not receive it: Copyright permission and monetization review are separate. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies for whether the material provides sufficient original commentary, modification or educational value.
