Short answer: YouTube documents live streaming through an encoder, but it does not document a direct Android TV box workflow for looping podcast episodes. You may be able to use a compatible box as a playback source feeding a separate encoder, but the exact box, capture path, audio, and looping software must be checked before relying on it for an unattended stream.
What an Android TV box can—and cannot—do
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow requires an encoder configured with the YouTube server URL and stream key. Its Android live-streaming documentation describes broadcasting a device’s camera view; it does not establish Android TV box support or a way to loop a podcast playlist from a TV box.
That leaves a possible, but unverified, arrangement: play podcast episodes on the box and route its output into a separate software or hardware encoder. Whether that works depends on the specific box, output and capture hardware, audio route, content protection, and software. YouTube does not verify this as an Android TV setup.
Check your channel before setting up the encoder
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Use podcast episodes and other material you have the rights to stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; detected material can lead to a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Possible DIY setup: Android TV output into an encoder
This is a compatibility-dependent arrangement, not a YouTube-verified Android TV procedure. Confirm the exact devices and software work together before buying equipment or scheduling a long broadcast.

- Choose and test the playback method. Confirm that your Android TV box can play the podcast files or playlist in the order you want and repeat them as needed. The cited YouTube documentation does not identify an Android TV app or playlist-looping procedure for this use.
- Plan the signal path. If the box’s output needs to enter a computer-based encoder, an HDMI capture card may be one possible bridge. Check compatibility for the exact box and capture device, including whether it captures the required video resolution and audio. Content protection may prevent capture. Neither a capture card alone nor a particular model is established as a complete solution.
- Configure an encoder. YouTube documents software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Use an encoder that accepts the signal you have confirmed, then create or select a stream in YouTube Studio and copy the stream’s server URL and stream key into that encoder. YouTube’s instructions are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start the broadcast and verify it. Start sending the encoder’s output and check the live preview and audio in YouTube Studio before treating the stream as unattended. YouTube’s documented encoder flow does not establish that an Android TV box will keep a playlist playing or recover from playback, capture, or network failures.
- End the stream deliberately. YouTube’s instruction is: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.”
Plan for continuous operation and archives
A continuous YouTube broadcast depends on the encoder continuing to send content. That is distinct from YouTube’s documented Android mobile live flow, which describes broadcasting a device’s camera view. Google’s API documentation discusses broadcast and stream resources, including a case where a 24/7 broadcast continues while video is not stopped; it does not establish an Android TV box solution. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a broadcast lasting longer than 12 hours will be saved as one archive. If you need an archive, plan around that limit rather than relying on a single recording of a longer continuous stream.

Common problems to check
- You cannot start a live stream: check channel verification, prior 90-day live restrictions, and whether first-time activation is still pending.
- The encoder has no picture or audio: recheck the box-to-capture-to-encoder signal path and confirm the capture device handles the required output and audio. The setup is model- and device-dependent.
- The box plays, but the live stream stops: test whether the playlist actually loops and whether the encoder continues sending content. The cited documentation does not guarantee unattended looping or recovery for this arrangement.
- The stream is interrupted over podcast content: review the rights for every episode and any music or other third-party material. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted through Content ID.
- You cannot capture the box’s output: check for content-protection behavior and compatibility before changing equipment. YouTube’s documentation does not certify a particular Android TV capture setup.
