You can run podcast episodes as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast by sending OBS a local episode file or playlist and connecting OBS to a YouTube encoder stream. For a true 24/7 run, keep the computer and internet connection on, monitor playback and audio, and plan replays separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not count on one 24-hour stream becoming a complete replay.
Before you start: make sure your channel can go live
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube states that live streamers must be at least 16 years old. A first-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide explains the setup requirements.
- Install OBS Studio and keep the podcast files on the computer that will run OBS. If you plan to use OBS’s VLC Video source for a playlist, install VLC as well. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC for this source.
- Confirm you have permission to stream and archive every recording, music track, clip, image, and other work in the program.
- Use a computer and internet connection you can leave running continuously. A local OBS broadcast stops if the computer loses power, OBS exits, or the connection fails.
How to stream podcast episodes 24/7 on YouTube using OBS
1. Prepare an episode or playlist
Store the media files locally and decide how the sequence should play. To repeat one episode, add it as an OBS Media Source and turn on its Loop option. To play several episodes in sequence and repeat the queue, use the VLC Video source, add the files as a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes both source types and their playback options.
Check that the files play correctly before going live. Confirm the picture is visible and the audio is audible at a sensible level; if an episode is much quieter than another, adjust the source or audio mix before starting the continuous broadcast.
2. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a live stream using the encoder option.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings and then Stream.
- Select YouTube as the service and enter or select the stream URL and key provided by YouTube. Keep the key private and do not publish it in a scene, description, or screenshot.
- Apply the settings, return to the main OBS window, and make sure the scene containing your episode source is active.
- Start streaming in OBS. Check the Live Control Room preview and use YouTube’s Go live control if the stream configuration requires it.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the connection and Live Control Room workflow. Menu labels can change, so use the current controls shown in YouTube Studio if they differ from these descriptions.

4. Set an upload budget and test the connection
Measure upload capacity, not just download speed. YouTube says the total outgoing bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. In YouTube Help’s streaming tips, the guidance is: “Have enough bandwidth: The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” Allow for other devices sharing the connection, and test the whole setup before the broadcast. A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical choice for a fixed streaming computer, but it does not prevent power or internet outages.
5. Start early and keep watch
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least 2 hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm viewers can reach the event, and monitor video and audio during the stream. For an always-on run, also watch for OBS stopping, internet or power interruptions, and the playlist reaching its end. OBS playback looping does not itself guarantee recovery from a computer or network failure.

How do I loop podcast episodes on YouTube Live with OBS?
For one repeating episode, use a Media Source and enable Loop. For multiple episodes, use the VLC Video source, put the files in the intended playlist order, and enable Loop Playlist. Keep the source active in the scene being streamed and check that each file transitions and produces audio as expected. If the VLC source is unavailable, confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; OBS’s documented requirement is 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
Can I run a 24/7 YouTube live stream from OBS?
Yes, OBS can keep sending a prerecorded program feed while the computer, OBS, and internet connection remain available. That is not the same as guaranteed uninterrupted service: a stopped encoder, power cut, network loss, or playback problem can interrupt the broadcast, so plan active monitoring and a way to restart it.

Plan the replay separately from the live schedule. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A single 24-hour broadcast therefore should not be presented as a guaranteed complete archived replay. If complete replays matter, break the service into shorter broadcasts and verify the channel’s current archive controls before publishing. See YouTube’s encoder guide for its archive guidance.
Copyright and permissions for an Indian podcast stream
Only stream material for which you have the necessary rights for the intended live broadcast and archive. YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; continuing to use matched material can interrupt or terminate it. Archived streams may receive Content ID claims after the live ends. If you have a licence, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to have necessary rights for exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights, and to meet applicable requirements in the stream’s territory. India’s Copyright Office publishes relevant provisions of the Copyright Act, including provisions concerning broadcasting-organisation rights. That statutory text alone does not determine which permissions apply to a particular YouTube podcast stream. Check rights for each included recording and seek qualified Indian legal advice for fact-specific questions; do not assume that a broadcast-related statutory route automatically covers YouTube streaming.
