You can stream compatible PS4 or PS5 games to a Windows PC or Mac with Sony’s free PS Remote Play app—but the game still runs on your PlayStation console. Enable Remote Play on the console, install the app, sign in with the same PlayStation account, and connect a supported controller. A console and a suitable internet connection are required.
What you need to stream PlayStation games on a PC
- A PS5 or PS4 console connected to the internet and running the latest system software.
- A compatible Windows PC or Mac with Sony’s app installed.
- The PlayStation account used on the console.
- A supported controller and, for Sony’s PC/Mac setup, a USB cable.
- A reliable internet connection. Sony gives 5 Mbps as the baseline and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience; these figures are guidance, not a guarantee of stream quality.
Remote Play sends the console’s game and menus to your computer. It does not let a PC run PlayStation games by itself. See Sony’s PS Remote Play overview.
Check whether your PC or Mac is compatible
Sony’s PC and Mac requirements below were listed on its support page when checked on October 7, 2026. Supported operating systems can change, so consult Sony’s current PC and Mac Remote Play guidance before installing.

Set up Remote Play on your PlayStation console
On PS5
- On the console, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
- Select Enable Remote Play.
- To wake the PS5 remotely from Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
On PS4
- Open Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings and select Enable Remote Play.
- Open Settings > Account Management and select Activate as Your Primary PS4.
- To start the PS4 while it is in Rest Mode, configure the available network and wake options under Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode.
Install the app and connect from your computer
- Download and install Sony’s PS Remote Play app for Windows or Mac from the PS Remote Play page.
- Connect a supported controller to the computer with a USB cable, as directed in Sony’s PC/Mac setup instructions.
- Open the app and sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Choose PS5 or PS4 in the app and select your console. The console must be online for the app to connect.
Which controller works with Remote Play on PC?
Sony lists DualSense, DualSense Edge and DUALSHOCK 4 controllers for Remote Play on PC and Mac. Its setup guide specifies connecting by USB. Sony also documents USB and Bluetooth support for DualSense on compatible computers, but controller features can vary by device and connection; do not assume every feature will work in a Remote Play session. Details are on Sony’s DualSense compatibility page. You do not need to buy a new controller if you already have one Sony lists as supported.

Improve a slow or unreliable Remote Play connection
Sony’s guidance is at least 5 Mbps for upload and download, with at least 15 Mbps recommended for better performance. Actual results depend on the network environment and connection quality. If the stream stutters or the app cannot connect, check these items:
- Confirm the console is online, Remote Play is enabled, and it is using the latest system software.
- Check that the app and console are signed in to the same PlayStation account.
- Check the connection’s upload and download speeds against Sony’s guidance.
- If the PS5 will not wake from Rest Mode, confirm both network and wake options are enabled in its Rest Mode settings.
- If the PS4 will not wake remotely, confirm it is activated as your primary PS4 and review its Rest Mode features.
Which PlayStation games cannot be streamed this way?
Remote Play does not support every title. Sony identifies games that require a PS VR or PS VR2 headset, additional peripherals beyond the listed controllers, or PS Plus Premium game streaming as exclusions. This last case is different from Remote Play: those games must be streamed through PS Plus Premium rather than from your own console using Remote Play.
