You can turn your own older gameplay recordings into a YouTube live stream by playing the files or a playlist into an encoder, then sending that encoder’s output to a YouTube Live event. YouTube supports encoder-based broadcasts, including gaming, but its official guidance does not provide a dedicated continuous-loop setup for prerecorded videos. You must supply and test the playback arrangement yourself, and you need the rights to every element in the stream.
Before you start: check access and rights
Make sure your channel can go live
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its live-streaming guidance also requires streamers to be at least 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable access before you plan to broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
Confirm you can rebroadcast the footage and audio
Owning a game or having uploaded a recording before does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast every component. Check the rights for gameplay footage, in-game music, added soundtrack, overlays, and any third-party clips. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions. Copyright restrictions can cause an active stream to be stopped or restricted; see YouTube Help: Restrictions on live streaming.

For a library of prerecorded files, use an encoder-based computer setup: a playback source plays your videos, and the encoder sends the resulting picture and sound to YouTube. YouTube describes encoders as suitable for gameplay and advanced productions and lists OBS among its encoder options. However, its cited instructions explain the general encoder workflow, not how to create a continuous local-file playlist or loop. The exact playback and repeat controls depend on the software you choose, so verify those controls in that software and test them before going live. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.

YouTube also supports direct console streaming, but that is a method for broadcasting live gameplay; the cited YouTube guidance does not establish it as a way to play a library of prerecorded files. Choose based on your source: recorded files call for a playback source feeding an encoder, while a console broadcast is for live play. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Set up the prerecorded-video broadcast
- Prepare the files and playback plan. Confirm that the recordings play correctly with their intended audio. Decide which files should play and in what order. If you want uninterrupted playback, check that your chosen player or production software can advance through the playlist and repeat it; that loop arrangement is your production setup, not a YouTube-provided feature in the cited instructions.
- Create a live event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, use the Create control, choose Go live, and set up the stream in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides a stream URL and stream key for the event. Interface labels can change; follow the current encoder setup shown in Live Control Room. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
- Connect the encoder. In the encoder’s stream settings, enter the YouTube stream URL and key for the event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it in a recording, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
- Route playback into the encoder. Select the old gameplay video or playlist as the encoder’s video and audio source. The exact source-selection steps vary by encoder and playback method; check the chosen software’s current documentation rather than assuming a YouTube menu or loop feature exists.
- Test before announcing the channel. Set up in advance, start the encoder before the scheduled event, and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that both picture and audio are present and that the intended recording is playing. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube Help: Stream live.
- Start the event and keep watching it. After the preview is correct, start the event in the encoder and YouTube Studio as required by the event setup. Monitor the stream for playback ending, silent audio, frozen video, or a disconnect; a playlist that reaches its end or fails to repeat can leave the live event with no useful program.
Plan for long broadcasts and archives
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local copy of important recordings and, if you need a complete archive of the broadcast, make a separate local recording rather than relying only on YouTube’s automatic archive. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, age eligibility, and whether the channel has live-streaming restrictions within the preceding 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder: Verify that the event’s stream URL and key are entered correctly and that the encoder is sending. If the key was exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The preview has no sound or picture: Confirm the correct playback source is selected and that the recording itself plays with sound. Inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the public event.
- The playlist stops: Check whether playback reached the final item and whether the selected player or production software is configured to advance or repeat. YouTube’s cited encoder instructions do not supply a loop setting.
- The stream is stopped or restricted: Review the content for copyrighted game audio, music, clips, and overlays, and confirm you have the necessary rights. YouTube lists copyright restrictions as a reason a stream may be stopped or restricted. YouTube Help: Restrictions on live streaming.
- The broadcast is missing from the archive: Check its duration. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; use a local recording for a dependable copy.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer and home connection to remain on for the broadcast, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Check rights before uploading or broadcasting, including in-game music and other third-party material. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
