To stream luxury home tours on YouTube Live from a spare PC, use the PC as the encoder: connect a camera and narration microphone, create a live event in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in encoder software, then rehearse and monitor the feed. YouTube does not specify a minimum PC configuration for this exact setup, so test the actual computer and connection before relying on them for a property tour.
Check YouTube Live eligibility and create the event
- Confirm the channel can stream. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Check eligibility well before the scheduled tour. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide explain these requirements.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Create or schedule the event, then select or create a stream key and copy the stream URL and key into your encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS destination fields. The exact encoder interface varies by software; YouTube’s Manage live stream settings page covers stream settings and connection details.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not show it on screen or share it with people who do not need access.
Connect the camera, microphone, and spare PC
YouTube encoder streams can use external cameras and microphones, and advanced setups can use more than one of either. Connect the camera source and narration microphone to the PC using the interfaces your equipment supports, then select them in the encoder. YouTube confirms this category of setup but does not specify a particular camera, microphone, connection method, or minimum PC specification.
Frame and plan the walkthrough
- Use a landscape 16:9 frame where your equipment permits.
- Plan a room-by-room route before going live. Walk it at the pace you expect during the tour, avoiding abrupt turns where possible.
- Check focus and exposure near bright windows and in darker rooms. Make sure narration remains understandable over movement and room noise.
- Use existing equipment if it gives you a usable picture and intelligible audio. A USB microphone is an optional way to improve narration, not a requirement; check that it works with the PC and rehearse with it in the property.
These are practical production checks, not camera techniques tested or endorsed by YouTube. If comparing equipment, assess image detail and exposure, autofocus and stabilization while walking, narration clarity, PC compatibility, and setup reliability in the actual home. A representative test is more informative than a specification alone.

Set video and audio settings the connection can sustain
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For a first narrated walkthrough, 1080p at 30 fps is a sensible configuration to try if the PC and upload connection sustain it.

| H.264 video output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates for H.264, not a guarantee that your PC or internet connection can deliver them reliably. Measure upload capacity and test the actual setup; lower resolution or bitrate if the encoder drops frames or YouTube reports stream-health problems. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the recommendations.
Audio and color
For stereo RTMP/RTMPS audio, YouTube’s guidance includes AAC or MP3, a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 kbps. For SDR video, it specifies Rec. 709. Unless HDR is an intentional requirement and your sources and encoder support it, use SDR to keep the workflow straightforward.

Rehearse and monitor before and during the tour
YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. Rehearse the full room route on the spare PC and inspect both the encoder and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. A private or unlisted test can let you practice without presenting the production as a public event.
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event, and start it at least 15 minutes before the planned start time, as YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend.
- Walk the route while speaking. Check framing, exposure changes, focus, microphone level, echo, and unwanted room noise.
- Watch for encoder load, dropped frames, and network instability. Test the upload connection under conditions similar to the event; use a wired connection if available and practical.
- Confirm that the incoming preview looks and sounds right in Live Control Room before starting the public event.
- During the tour, keep monitoring audio and video quality so you can respond to a degraded feed.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover event preparation and monitoring. Its encoder settings page also emphasizes testing with similar audio and movement.

Troubleshoot the most likely problems
- Live streaming is not available: verify channel status and eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours after first enabling the feature. Do not leave activation until tour day.
- The encoder will not connect: recheck the stream URL and key against the event’s settings, and confirm you selected the intended stream in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- Dropped frames or unhealthy stream feedback: test upload capacity and reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate until the PC and connection sustain the feed. The recommended bitrate is not a promise of capacity.
- Audio is unclear, distorted, or echoing: check that the encoder selected the intended microphone, inspect its level, and rehearse in the room with the camera moving. Reduce room noise where practical.
- Windows blow out or rooms look too dark: rehearse the route and check exposure and focus at the transitions before the audience arrives; adjust the camera or route as needed.
- The computer struggles to encode: YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a minimum PC specification for this tour workflow. Test on the actual spare PC and lower the output settings if its encoder cannot keep up.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous loop of uploaded property-tour video on YouTube rather than a live camera walkthrough, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not stream from a camera.
