You can send an Indian folk music playlist to YouTube around the clock with OBS, but clear the rights to every recording first—and do not count on YouTube saving a single 24-hour broadcast. For a reliable replay, plan shorter streams under 12 hours and make a local recording as backup. This guide covers rights, YouTube setup, OBS settings, scheduling, and dropped-frame fixes.

Before you build a 24/7 stream: clear the music rights

“Folk” describes a tradition, not a blanket copyright status. A traditional melody, a modern arrangement of it, a particular recording, and a performer’s rendition can have different rights holders. Confirm that you have permission for the exact material you plan to use, in the territories where it will be available, for both live streaming and any replay you intend to keep.

YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions make the provider responsible for having all necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights and applicable territorial approvals. If you use protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor: YouTube for Artists.

Ask about Content ID allowlisting

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may prompt a warning, interruption, or termination. A license does not necessarily stop an interruption: YouTube says the channel may also need to be added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the owner or its administrator to arrange allowlisting where applicable, and keep written permissions and contact details accessible. See YouTube’s guidance on live Content ID claims.

Do not assume that a track is cleared because it is described as traditional, because another channel uses it, or because you have permission to use a song in a different format. No particular track’s status can be determined without checking its rights and license terms.

Choose a 24/7 schedule that preserves replays

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. Therefore, a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast is a poor choice if you need a dependable replay. YouTube also notes that DVR may be limited or unavailable after 12 hours; see its DVR guidance.

Approach What it offers Trade-off
One continuous 24-hour broadcast A single always-on destination for viewers. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR may be limited or unavailable after 12 hours.
Repeated shorter scheduled broadcasts Each segment can stay below YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold, making it the safer choice for replay preservation. You must schedule and monitor the segments. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed seamless viewer handoff between them.

For replays, use segments comfortably shorter than 12 hours rather than aiming at the boundary, and record locally as a second copy. The shorter-segment recommendation follows from YouTube’s stated archive guidance; it does not guarantee automatic rollover or uninterrupted viewing between broadcasts. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation does not establish a guaranteed seamless handoff.

Prepare your YouTube channel and stream

  1. Enable live streaming early. YouTube for Artists tells first-time streamers to enable livestreaming by verifying the account at least 24 hours before going live. Follow the live YouTube interface for the current steps; older OBS instructions may describe interface details that have since changed.
  2. Create the broadcast in Live Control Room. Set up the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room and choose the intended visibility, title, description, and schedule. Keep the stream private or unlisted while testing.
  3. Get the encoder connection details. In YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions, select YouTube in OBS if offered, or enter YouTube’s Live server URL, then copy the stream key into OBS. Treat the key like an account credential: do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
  4. Set up OBS and send a test. Configure the audio source, visuals, and output settings described below. Start sending to YouTube and check its preview and stream status before making the broadcast public.
  5. Test privately or unlisted. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test before the go-live date, especially for a high-investment event. Confirm that the playlist loops, sound is audible and clean, the intended visuals appear, and the title and description are correct.

Configure OBS for a music playlist

OBS sends audio and video to YouTube as an encoder. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then confirm your settings in a private or unlisted test. The appropriate resolution and bitrate depend on your upload capacity and the content; avoid choosing a bitrate your connection cannot sustain.

SABRENT USB External Stereo Sound Card Adapter, Plug & Play (AU-MMSA)
  • PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
  • WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
  • TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
  • FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
  • SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.

Set up the playlist and audio

  • Add the authorized music files as media sources or use a playlist workflow that can repeat them. Confirm that playback advances through the entire selection and returns to the beginning as intended.
  • Use visuals you have permission to stream as well, such as a title card or authorized artwork. Check that the scene stays visible throughout the playlist rather than going blank between tracks.
  • Watch OBS’s audio meters while the playlist plays. Keep levels out of clipping, and listen for gaps, unwanted desktop sounds, or abrupt transitions in the test stream.
  • Set a local recording destination if you need a backup copy, and verify that the recording has audio and video before relying on it. Make sure you have enough disk space for the planned duration.

Choose output settings that your connection can sustain

There is no single bitrate or resolution that suits every connection. Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard and YouTube’s current encoder guidance as your baseline, then test at the settings you intend to use. If dropped frames rise, lower the bitrate or output resolution and test again rather than pushing a setting your upload cannot hold. The OBS help portal explains the connection indicator and dropped-frame counter at OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

Keep the stream running and troubleshoot problems

OBS reports dropped frames

OBS says an increasing “Dropped frames” counter with a yellow or red connection indicator can mean the connection to the server is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution, run another test, and investigate whether the network connection is stable. A wired Ethernet connection is one option to consider when diagnosing a wireless setup, but it is not a guaranteed fix.

The YouTube preview is missing or the stream will not start

  • Confirm OBS is sending to YouTube and that the server URL and stream key match the broadcast currently open in Live Control Room.
  • Check the stream status and preview in YouTube before changing visibility. If the stream key was replaced or exposed, use the current key in OBS.
  • Verify that OBS is using the intended scene and that its audio source is active; a successful connection alone does not confirm that viewers can hear the playlist.

The live feed is warned, interrupted, or terminated

Check YouTube’s live copyright notification and identify the matched material. Confirm that your permission covers the exact recording and live use, the relevant territories, and any intended archive. If it is licensed third-party material, ask the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Do not assume a license by itself will prevent matching interruptions.

A replay is missing or incomplete

A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and even shorter broadcasts should have a local backup if the archive matters. Check the segment duration and verify your local recording rather than assuming YouTube saved the entire broadcast.
