PRISM Live Studio’s documented playlist, media-source, and scene features let you play local videos and switch between setups, but the official guides reviewed do not show a built-in clock-based scheduler that automatically changes videos at set times. You can run a playlist or switch scenes manually; unattended timed changes require an external scheduling setup, and compatibility with PRISM must be tested.
What PRISM Live Studio can and cannot schedule
PRISM’s features address related but different tasks. A playlist organizes videos, a media source plays a local file, a scene groups sources into a layout, and a scheduled YouTube event sets when a live event is listed. None of the official PRISM guides reviewed describes assigning a prerecorded video to a time of day and automatically playing it then.
- PRISM mobile: Create a reusable Video playlist from videos on your device, reorder entries, and seek within them. The guide does not document automatic starts or clock times for individual items. PRISM mobile My Studio guide.
- PRISM desktop: Add local video, image, or audio files as Media Sources. Playback in Studio Mode may need attention when a source is added. PRISM desktop Media Source guide.
- Scenes: Organize sources into different layouts and switch scenes during a stream. The reviewed scene guide documents scene management, not clock-triggered changes. PRISM scene guide.
- YouTube scheduling: PRISM mobile can create or edit a scheduled YouTube live event. That schedules the event, not a selected local video to begin playing at a particular hour. PRISM platform scheduling guide.
Choose the approach that matches your schedule
| Approach | What it supports | Best suited to | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PRISM mobile Video playlist | Create, reorder, seek, save, and reuse an ordered playlist. | A stream with an operator present to manage playback. | No documented clock-time assignment or unattended schedule. |
| PRISM desktop Media Sources and scenes | Play local media and organize it into scenes that can be changed manually. | A desktop stream where someone can operate transitions. | Playback and scene changes are documented; automatic time triggers are not. |
| External OBS scheduling tool | Scene Scheduler’s manual describes scheduled scene and source changes for OBS. | A technical user willing to validate an external setup. | Compatibility of this specific tool with PRISM is unverified. |
| PRISM YouTube schedule | Create or edit a scheduled YouTube live event from PRISM mobile. | Planning when a live event is listed. | Does not establish prerecorded-file playback automation. |
For a clock-based unattended workflow, assess whether it can recover after a missed trigger or restart, whether it works with your PRISM version and operating system, and whether changes need to happen at an exact time. Those are practical decision criteria, not measured reliability results.
Set up a playlist for operator-controlled playback
- In PRISM mobile, open My Studio and create a Video playlist from videos stored on the device. Follow the prompts to select the files.
- Reorder playlist entries into the sequence you want. Use the playlist’s seeking controls when you need to select a position in a video.
- Save the playlist for reuse. The documented workflow is a reusable collection; it does not assign start times or automatically begin playback at a chosen hour.
- Start or manage the stream and make playback transitions yourself. If you need the next video to begin at a precise time without an operator, this mobile playlist workflow alone does not meet that requirement.
Prepare desktop videos and scenes
- In PRISM desktop for Windows or Mac, add each local video as a Media Source and test it in the scene where it will be used. The guide also describes local image and audio media.
- Create separate scenes or source arrangements for the video blocks that need different layouts or content. Scenes let you organize the setups; they do not create a schedule.
- Test playback in the intended operating mode. In Studio Mode, a media source may not start automatically when added. PRISM documents unchecking Restart playback when source becomes active, or using Apply in Studio Mode, to address playback behavior.
- During the live stream, change scenes manually when it is time to move to the next video block. Confirm the file plays as expected after switching before relying on the setup live.
Use an external scheduler only after testing
Scene Scheduler’s manual describes time-based scene and source changes for OBS, while PRISM documents support for OBS plugins on Windows. PRISM’s plugin guide says the documented installation flow requires PRISM 4.0.5 or higher and plugin support begins with version 4.0.0. These facts do not establish that Scene Scheduler works with PRISM.

- Check the current PRISM version, operating system, and the scheduler’s current requirements. Do not assume that an OBS plugin will behave identically in PRISM.
- Review the scheduler’s instructions for defining a time-based scene or source change: Scene Scheduler manual. The manual describes OBS; it is not confirmation of PRISM compatibility.
- Install or enable any plugin only through the applicable PRISM instructions. PRISM’s Windows plugin guide is here: PRISM plugin guide. It describes OBS plugin support and its installation flow, but not this scheduler specifically.
- Test the complete sequence off-air: trigger times, correct file and scene, playback start, stream continuity, and behavior after closing or restarting PRISM. Repeat after any relevant app or plugin update.
OBS’s own documentation explains local media sources, but it does not verify that OBS scheduling tools interoperate with PRISM: OBS Media Sources documentation.
Troubleshoot common problems
- A video does not start when a source is added in Studio Mode: Check whether Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled; PRISM documents unchecking it or using Apply in Studio Mode as ways to address this behavior.
- A playlist plays in the wrong order: Reopen the playlist in My Studio and reorder its entries before streaming.
- A scene changes, but the video does not: Confirm the intended Media Source is in that scene and test its playback behavior separately. Scene changes organize sources; they do not guarantee a file’s playback state.
- A scheduled YouTube event is listed, but the intended file has not started: Event scheduling and file playback are separate functions. Start and operate the media source, or implement and validate an external scheduler.
- An external trigger is missed or PRISM restarts: Do not assume the schedule will catch up or recover automatically. Test restart behavior and keep an operator available until the specific setup has proved reliable for your use.
- A plugin installation or trigger fails: Recheck the PRISM version and operating-system support, then consult the plugin and scheduler instructions. Compatibility for Scene Scheduler with PRISM is not established by the guides cited here.
Keep the stream running without a computer at home
If your goal is to play uploaded videos continuously on YouTube rather than operate PRISM on a computer, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The uploaded videos loop; this is not a camera-streaming service, and StreamNeo streams to YouTube only.
