To run devotional music on YouTube around the clock, you need two things: recordings you are authorized to stream continuously and a publishing setup that can keep sending the live feed. Start by clearing rights in both the songs and the specific recordings, then build a looping playlist, configure a live stream, and plan for power, internet, and encoder failures. Buying or downloading a bhajan does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast it.
Can you play bhajans on a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Yes, if you have the rights needed for the particular music and recording, and your stream complies with YouTube’s rules. A devotional subject, traditional prayer, or old lyric does not automatically make a singer’s performance, arrangement, or recording free to reuse.
Clear the composition and lyrics as applicable, as well as the rights in the actual sound recording. Those rights may belong to different people or organizations. This is a practical guide, not a legal opinion about any particular track; rights depend on the work, recording, owners, territory, and intended use.

IPRS says purchasing a copy of music does not grant public-performance rights; PPL similarly says buying records or discs does not authorize public performance. A continuous online YouTube stream is a different use from privately listening to a purchased file or playing music at home. Get permission for the intended online use rather than assuming ownership of a copy is clearance to broadcast it.

Check composition rights and recording rights separately
IPRS licenses works in its repertoire and groups its offerings into categories including internet non-interactive and internet interactive use. Ask IPRS which category and scope apply to your proposed YouTube stream, and confirm whether the compositions are represented. IPRS says its license does not convey royalty rights belonging to a non-member publisher or owner. Its repertoire search contains more than 600,000 song titles, is continually updated, and may not be exhaustive; a missing title is not proof that no rights exist.
PPL’s current tariff guidance says its license covers on-ground use and does not permit digital streaming of recordings. Its FAQ advises contacting individual labels for digital use. Do not treat an IPRS license or a PPL on-ground tariff as universal clearance for every right in a track.

How to clear the music before launch
- Make a track inventory. Record each intended track’s title, composer, lyricist or publisher, performer, label, and sound-recording owner where known. Keep the exact recording version in the list; a live rendition or remaster may involve different recording rights.
- Prefer recordings you control. For self-produced material, keep written agreements with contributors that cover the intended online use. For third-party music, obtain written permission from the relevant composition and recording owners for a continuous YouTube livestream.
- Ask IPRS about its repertoire and license scope. Search the repertoire and contact IPRS to confirm which license category applies to the proposed use and what it covers. Clear any rights outside the repertoire directly with the relevant owner.
- Contact labels or recording owners for commercial recordings. Ask specifically for authorization to stream the recordings digitally on YouTube; an on-ground or event license is not the same permission.
- Get the scope in writing. Have the permission identify the tracks, platform and use, territory, term, monetization or sponsorship conditions, whether replay/archive is allowed, and how the owner will handle YouTube Content ID. This checklist is a prudent way to document the intended use, not a quoted statutory form.
- Arrange Content ID allowlisting before going live. Ask each relevant owner to add your channel to its allowlist for the licensed material. Keep the written approval and the track list together.
- Test with cleared material. Run a test stream using music authorized for that use and check the YouTube live control room for warnings. A clean test is useful operationally, but it does not prove that every track in a larger library is cleared.
Why YouTube may stop a licensed live stream
YouTube Help says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. It also warns that a stream may be interrupted even when the content is licensed if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. A license and an allowlist therefore solve different parts of the problem: permission covers the use, while allowlisting helps prevent an automated match from interrupting the live feed.

If the stream is interrupted, check the live control room for the identified content, stop or replace the affected track, and contact the owner to confirm the channel and exact recording are covered by the allowlist. Do not assume that restarting with the same track will resolve a rights issue.

Build the 24/7 playlist and live stream
1. Decide whether the stream will be live-only or archived
Choose whether YouTube should retain a replay before launch. YouTube says claims on archived live streams are made after the stream ends if the creator chooses to archive it. Ensure your permission expressly covers the replay or video-on-demand use as well as the live broadcast; if it does not, do not retain an archive of that music.
2. Prepare a rotation that can run unattended
Assemble the cleared tracks into a playlist or continuous program and check that the end of the rotation returns cleanly to its beginning. Avoid gaps, unexpected silence, abrupt level changes, or a file that stops playback when it reaches its end. If you use a still visual for a radio-style stream, clear that artwork too. Set a schedule for checking playback, the rights status, and any platform alerts; a playlist alone does not monitor itself.

3. Create the YouTube live event and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live. Use the live control room to create or schedule the event and choose whether to enable archiving.
- Choose the stream workflow that matches your encoder, then copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into that encoder’s corresponding fields. Follow the current configuration shown in YouTube Studio for the selected stream rather than assuming one bitrate or resolution applies to every source and connection.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it or send it to anyone who does not operate the stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement key.
- Start the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives a stable preview before starting the public event. Check audio, picture, title, visibility, and the selected live-versus-archive behavior.
4. Choose a publishing setup and keep a recovery plan
A computer running encoder software can publish the playlist; a dedicated hardware video encoder is another possible category for operators who want a standalone publishing device. Compare compatibility with the chosen workflow and how each option will be monitored. The available NIC guidance establishes that encoders are used to publish webcasts, but it does not establish that a hardware encoder is required, name a suitable model, or guarantee uninterrupted operation.
NIC’s webcast service specifies a static public IP, outbound access for RTMP port 1935, and dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream. These are NIC-specific requirements, not YouTube settings or a YouTube bitrate recommendation. For your own YouTube setup, use the settings YouTube Studio currently displays for the selected stream, and test your actual connection and encoder before relying on them.

For an always-on DIY setup, plan for both internet and power loss. A backup connection and power arrangement may reduce single points of failure, but test the switch-over rather than assuming it works. Decide who will receive alerts and who can restart the encoder, replace a failed file, or stop a track if a rights warning appears. What to verify before going public
- Every recording and any composition or lyrics it uses are cleared for the precise continuous online use.
- Relevant rights owners have confirmed Content ID allowlisting for your channel before the stream begins.
- Your written permissions specify platform, territory, term, monetization conditions, and whether an archive is covered.
- The stream has been tested with authorized material, and someone can respond to a platform warning or technical outage.
- The encoder and network match the current settings shown in YouTube Studio; NIC’s separate webcast requirements have not been mistaken for YouTube requirements.
