Use OBS Studio on the Windows mini PC as the encoder: add a visual, bring in the station audio from a compatible stream URL or a Windows player, then send the scene to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Test the complete path before you go public. Whether a particular station feed works depends on its format, access requirements, and terms.
Before you start
- A Windows PC or mini PC running OBS Studio.
- The station’s playable stream URL, or a Windows application that can play the station.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream, with live streaming enabled.
- A visual you have permission to use, such as a station logo, cover image, or simple graphic.
- Reliable upload capacity for the video and audio you intend to send.
YouTube says first-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours. Its live-streaming guidance also requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule the livestream, then locate its stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream details. If using a custom connection, paste the URL and key into the corresponding fields.
- Treat the key like a password: do not share it in screenshots, public configuration files, or tutorials. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS. YouTube explains that the key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. YouTube: Stream key
Build an OBS scene with a visual
Radio supplies audio, but an encoder livestream also needs a video image. In OBS, create a scene and add an image source for a station graphic, logo, or other authorized artwork. You can use a simple static visual rather than an elaborate layout. OBS scenes can combine image, media, and audio sources. OBS: Sources Guide

Check that the image fills the canvas as intended and that no private desktop or unrelated windows are visible. If you do not have rights to the station’s branding or artwork, use a visual you are authorized to broadcast.

Bring the station audio into OBS
Option 1: Try a compatible station stream URL
If the station provides a direct stream URL, try adding it through OBS’s VLC Video source. This source supports playlists and extended media support, but requires VLC to be installed. Match the VLC installation to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Add the URL and check whether playback begins and remains stable.
Do not assume every online radio URL will work. OBS’s built-in Media Source documentation describes local audio and video files; it does not establish that every network radio feed is supported. A station may require authentication, use an incompatible format, or restrict access by region. Test the exact feed you plan to use. OBS: Media Sources
Option 2: Capture a Windows player
If the station plays in a browser or another Windows application but its URL does not work as a source, use OBS’s Application Audio Capture source to capture the relevant application. OBS lists support for Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11. Add the source, select the station player, and confirm its sound registers in the OBS Audio Mixer.

Some application audio outputs may not be compatible with direct capture. If you cannot capture the player’s sound, a virtual audio cable may be needed to route its output into OBS. OBS: Application Audio Capture
Prevent missing or duplicated audio
- Start station playback and watch the Audio Mixer in OBS. The relevant meter should move while the station is playing.
- If using an Audio Input/Output Capture source, avoid capturing the same device a second time through global audio settings. OBS advises disabling the duplicated global device to prevent echo.
- If using Application Audio Capture, disable global Desktop Audio where needed to avoid sending the same sound twice.
- Listen to the OBS output or a private test stream. Confirm the station is audible, at a sensible level, and not distorted.

Configure video, audio, and upload capacity
Use OBS’s streaming settings and an encoder configuration your mini PC and connection can sustain. YouTube’s published encoder settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate encoding. Its recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and should not exceed four seconds. The listed advanced audio recommendations are 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 Kbps stereo. Choose a modest video configuration suitable for a mostly static image and verify that the PC can encode it without dropped frames. No minimum CPU, RAM, or GPU specification for a Windows mini PC is established here. Test the complete broadcast before going public
- Play the station and check the OBS Audio Mixer.
- Start streaming from OBS while the YouTube event is in test or preview mode, as appropriate for your event.
- In Live Control Room, confirm the preview shows the visual and that the station audio is present.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and messages. Watch OBS for dropped frames or other encoder warnings.
- Test with the same audio and movement conditions you expect during the broadcast, then start the public event only after the signal path is sound.

Confirm permission to rebroadcast
A publicly accessible radio feed is not proof that you have permission to rebroadcast it on YouTube. Confirm that your rights cover the audio, station branding, and artwork for the intended platform and territory. Decide whether to use a dedicated computer
A dedicated mini PC can keep OBS and the station player separate from your everyday work, but it is optional. The existing Windows PC may be adequate if it can play the station, encode the chosen scene, and maintain a stable connection. YouTube says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” The cited guidance does not set a minimum mini PC specification or establish long-duration reliability for a particular model. Troubleshooting
