You can relay an Indian online radio station to YouTube with FFmpeg by feeding FFmpeg the station’s direct audio stream, adding an authorized still image, and sending the resulting audio/video stream to the YouTube ingest URL using the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. First, get permission: a station’s publicly playable URL does not prove that you may retransmit its programs on YouTube.
Before you start: confirm rights and access
Get permission to retransmit the station
Ask the station and relevant rights holders for written permission covering the intended YouTube broadcast. Confirm the permitted music and recordings, territories, duration, and whether the stream may be archived or monetized. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the broadcaster must hold rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including applicable music licensing rights, and comply with territory-specific requirements; the terms also address archived content. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube’s terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” A station’s location in India, public availability, or successful playback does not establish that a particular retransmission is authorized under Indian law or the law of any other territory. Confirm the permissions that apply to your situation; this is not individualized legal advice.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck that you have a direct audio endpoint
A radio website or player page is not necessarily the media stream. The page may use HLS, redirects, authentication, or a player-specific endpoint. Find the station-approved direct audio URL and test that your installed FFmpeg can read it. Follow the provider’s approved access method if the feed requires headers or authentication; do not work around access controls.

What to replace and why the inputs are ordered this way
https://STATION-AUDIO-STREAM-URLmust be a directly readable audio endpoint, not merely the station’s homepage. The command assumes input 0 contains a demuxable audio stream.station-artwork.jpgis the still image used as the video track. The command assumes input 1 is that image and loops it at 30 frames per second.- The reconnect options appear before the station input because they apply to that input. FFmpeg’s HTTP protocol documentation describes reconnect controls including network-error and HTTP-error retries, EOF handling, and retry delays: FFmpeg Protocols Documentation.
libx264encodes the image as H.264 video. If your build does not includelibx264, substitute a compatible video encoder that your build supports.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 44.1 kHz stereo at 128 kbps; check the stream preview and your actual input. These are recommendations, not a guarantee of compatibility for every endpoint.- The final address is a placeholder. Copy the actual server URL and stream key from your YouTube Live Control Room; do not guess an ingest address or reuse example credentials. Treat the key like a password and keep it out of public logs, screenshots, and shared scripts.
This image-based pattern adds a video track because YouTube’s encoder workflow expects an audio/video stream. It does not turn FFmpeg into a camera broadcast. Check YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for supported protocols and encoding recommendations.
Go live and verify the relay
- Test the station feed. Confirm the direct endpoint opens and that FFmpeg detects an audio stream. If the URL points to a web page or an unsupported playlist, locate the station-approved media endpoint before proceeding.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the broadcast and copy the server URL and stream key YouTube provides.
- Configure the image and command. Put the authorized still image where the command can read it, replace the placeholders, and verify your FFmpeg build supports the selected protocol and encoders.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Start FFmpeg and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the image appears, the audio is audible and at a suitable level, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream before making the broadcast public.
- Monitor while live. Keep an operator available to check the process, audio/video quality, and YouTube stream health. Reconnect flags can help recover a dropped input, but they do not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
Bandwidth, settings, and recovery
Allow upload headroom
YouTube recommends that available upload capacity exceed the total stream bitrate, with 20% headroom. The connection must sustain the outgoing stream reliably; a brief speed test alone does not establish that it will remain stable. YouTube also recommends testing, reviewing the preview, and continuously monitoring quality. See YouTube streaming tips.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Understand what reconnect options can and cannot do
The command asks FFmpeg to reconnect after certain network, HTTP, or end-of-input conditions and to cap the retry delay at 30 seconds. The HTTP protocol options vary by FFmpeg version and build; consult the installed version’s help and the FFmpeg protocol documentation. A station may reject repeated connections, require authorized headers, or terminate a feed in a way that needs operator intervention. Retries are recovery controls, not an uptime guarantee. If YouTube or FFmpeg does not recover, check the process and endpoint, then restart or reconfigure it as needed.
Troubleshooting
- FFmpeg cannot open the station URL: You may have copied a player page rather than the direct audio endpoint, or the feed may require a provider-approved redirect, playlist, header, or authentication method. Confirm the correct URL and access method with the station.
- FFmpeg opens the URL but finds no audio: The endpoint may not expose a demuxable audio stream in the expected form. Test the actual media feed and inspect FFmpeg’s input information before running the relay.
- The still image does not appear in preview: Check the image path and file readability, confirm input 1 is mapped as video, and verify that the selected video encoder is available in your build.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm Live is enabled, the broadcast is ready in Live Control Room, and the server URL and key were copied exactly. Check that the key has not been exposed or replaced.
- The stream buffers or drops: Check sustained upload capacity against the total stream bitrate, allow YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and inspect both FFmpeg output and Live Control Room health. Reconnect attempts may not succeed if the station refuses a new connection.
- Audio is silent, distorted, or mismatched: Check the source feed’s actual audio and FFmpeg’s detected stream, then review the preview and levels. The example AAC settings follow YouTube’s stereo recommendations, but cannot correct a faulty or unsuitable station source.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded station program or other uploaded audio/video, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than taking a live feed from a radio station or camera, so it is not a direct substitute for relaying a station’s live endpoint with FFmpeg.
