AzuraCast can provide the radio audio, but it is not documented here as a built-in video-to-YouTube encoder. To put an Indian FM feed on YouTube, route audio from an AzuraCast mount point into a separate encoder, pair it with a visual, and send the resulting stream to YouTube Live using the server URL and stream key. If the feed is terrestrial FM rather than already available as an AzuraCast stream, first capture the receiver’s audio and make it available as an encoder input.
How the setup fits together
Think of this as an audio-to-video relay: AzuraCast supplies audio; an encoder combines that audio with a still image, station artwork, or live studio video; YouTube Live receives the encoded stream. AzuraCast uses Liquidsoap to assemble and transform station audio, while listener-facing mount points expose it in selected formats and bitrates. The documented workflow does not establish a native AzuraCast video destination for YouTube, so plan on a separate encoder.
- Audio source: the AzuraCast station’s selected mount point, or conditionally an FM receiver’s audio output.
- Encoder: software or hardware that can ingest the chosen audio source, pair it with video or a visual scene, and publish to YouTube over RTMP or RTMPS.
- YouTube Live: provides the stream URL and stream key, shows the incoming preview and health, and controls when the stream is live.
Before you start
Confirm you have permission to retransmit the feed
Do not assume that permission to receive or broadcast a station feed also covers a worldwide YouTube livestream or its archived replay. YouTube’s Live terms place responsibility on the provider to hold necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed material can be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Ask the broadcaster and relevant rights holders what permissions apply to the specific station, recordings, compositions, territories, and YouTube archive; verify India-specific requirements with them rather than treating this guide as a legal determination. Choose the right audio source
If the station already exists in AzuraCast, use its digital mount-point URL. A station may expose multiple mount points for different formats or bitrates, so select the one suitable for the encoder and confirm it is reachable from the machine or service running the encoder. The documented default URL pattern is {HTTP/HTTPS}://{BASE_URL}.TLD/listen/{STATION_URL_STUB}/{MOUNT_POINT_URL}; a custom mount URL may override it. If by “FM feed” you mean an over-the-air broadcast received on a tuner, AzuraCast does not make that radio signal available by itself. You need a receiver and an audio-capture path that exposes the receiver’s output to the encoder. That is an alternative source path, not a required AzuraCast purchase or feature. Confirm the encoder can use that input before building the rest of the setup.
Step-by-step: send AzuraCast audio to YouTube Live
1. Select and test the AzuraCast mount point
- In your AzuraCast station, identify the intended mount point and copy its listener URL.
- Check the mount point’s format and bitrate, especially if the station offers several options.
- From the encoder host, test that the URL is reachable and produces the expected station audio. A URL working in a browser or player does not by itself prove that a particular encoder can ingest it.
2. Set up an encoder scene
Choose an encoder that supports your exact audio input and can publish a video stream to YouTube using RTMP(S). The available YouTube guidance describes its URL-and-key handoff, but does not certify a particular encoder’s compatibility with every AzuraCast stream format. Check the encoder’s current documentation, then test the mount URL, audio codec, and output path before scheduling a broadcast.

Give the stream a visual: station artwork or a static image is sufficient for an audio-focused broadcast, while a live studio view requires a camera/video source. Make sure you have rights to the image or video as well as the audio. An audio feed alone is not a video livestream.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the Stream URL and Stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. Prefer RTMPS where available.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in a screen share, public document, or video. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, with AAC or MP3 audio. Use constant bitrate (CBR). For stereo audio, the recommended settings are a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps bitrate. Set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Video bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so choose the matching row in YouTube’s live encoder settings rather than applying one bitrate to every output mode.

4. Test the incoming stream before going live
- Start the encoder’s output and wait for YouTube Live Control Room to show the stream preview.
- Listen for clean, continuous audio and confirm the selected visual is present.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health status and test with representative audio and motion. Make sure the internet connection at the encoder host can sustain the chosen output.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
When finished, end the stream in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder. If the encoder stops but the YouTube event remains open, end the event in Studio as well.
What to check for a terrestrial FM receiver
Use this branch only if the audio source is an over-the-air Indian FM broadcast rather than an existing digital AzuraCast feed. Connect a suitable receiver’s audio output to an audio-capture device or another supported input, then configure the encoder to use that input and pair it with the visual. Test for hum, clipping, silence, and receiver dropouts before sending the output to YouTube. The exact hardware and encoder settings depend on the receiver and capture path; the AzuraCast mount-point workflow does not replace this step.

Troubleshooting common failures
- The encoder cannot open the mount URL: confirm the URL and mount-point name, verify that the mount point is active, and test reachability from the encoder host. Try a different station mount point if the selected format is unsupported by the encoder.
- YouTube receives video but no audio: verify the encoder is actually ingesting the intended AzuraCast URL or capture input, then check its audio track assignment and AAC/MP3 output configuration.
- The stream preview does not appear: check the YouTube server URL and stream key for transcription errors, confirm the encoder is actively sending, and verify the selected protocol and output configuration.
- The stream health is poor or the output drops: lower the output mode or bitrate to one the encoder host’s uplink can sustain; verify the bitrate recommendation for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- The picture or audio is interrupted after going live: investigate encoder or source interruptions, and check YouTube’s copyright notifications. A valid stream key does not grant rights to broadcast the station’s content.
- AzuraCast becomes resource constrained: additional destinations and mount points can add sustained Liquidsoap CPU load. Review server capacity before adding transcodes or outputs.
