To stream an Indian devotional podcast archive on YouTube Live all day, prepare recordings you have permission to broadcast, loop one file or a playlist in OBS Studio, connect OBS to YouTube with your stream URL and key, and monitor the broadcast. For a stream longer than 12 hours, make a separate local recording: YouTube says an over-12-hour stream may not be captured as an automatic archive.
Before you start: confirm rights and channel access
Check permission for every part of the archive
Religious or devotional subject matter does not make a recording free to rebroadcast. Confirm that you have the necessary rights to stream each episode and its music, performances, artwork, and other incorporated material. YouTube’s terms make the content provider responsible for securing required rights, including relevant music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other rights participants. If you have a license, check whether it covers livestreaming on your channel and whether the rights holder must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Permission and platform detection are separate issues: a licensed recording can still trigger a live copyright interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel.

YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check eligibility and setup in YouTube’s live streaming setup guidance before scheduling the broadcast.

Choose a looping setup
OBS Studio can loop a single media file or repeat a playlist. Choose based on how you want to manage episode order and replace recordings.

Set up OBS and start the YouTube Live stream
- Prepare the files. Put the recordings in a stable local folder, confirm they play correctly, and verify the full playlist order. Avoid moving or renaming files after setting up the source.
- Build the playback scene. In OBS, add a Media Source for a single file and enable looping, or add a VLC Video source, add the episode files, and enable Loop Playlist. If the video has no visual component, choose an appropriate still image or visual that you have the rights to use.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Check the preview before going public. Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the correct scene, episode playback, audio levels, and that the intended watch page is accessible to viewers.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Use YouTube’s Live Control Room to start the stream when ready. Keep an eye on the stream status, audio and picture, and any copyright notices. YouTube’s encoder workflow creates a watch page after the stream starts. Follow YouTube’s encoder livestream instructions for the current control-room flow.
Keep the connection and recording reliable
Leave upload headroom
Your available upload capacity needs to exceed the stream bitrate, with room for other network traffic and fluctuations. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the bitrate and warns that network disruption can break a stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup tips. Test from the actual network and location you will use; a speed result from another time or connection does not establish that the stream will remain stable.
Keep a separate local archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours it may not be captured at all. For an all-day broadcast, record locally as a separate backup and verify that the recording is being written. Make sure the computer has enough free storage for the recording duration and quality; YouTube does not specify a universal storage size or device requirement. Plan around the 12-hour caveat rather than assuming YouTube will preserve one uninterrupted all-day stream. Your local recording and the YouTube livestream are separate: looping a file in OBS does not change YouTube’s archive behavior.
Copyright and monetization are separate checks
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may replace the picture with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. YouTube also says a licensed work can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and resolve rights or allowlisting questions with the relevant rights holder before broadcasting.

Having permission to stream does not establish eligibility to monetize. YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” and clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Its reused-content policy separately addresses material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The outcome depends on the channel and its content; permission alone does not determine it. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The playlist does not repeat. Confirm that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source. For one file, check the Media Source loop setting instead.
- OBS cannot play a file. Check that the format is supported, the path is correct, and the file plays locally. VLC Video sources also require VLC to be installed.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. Check that the stream URL and key in OBS match the stream selected in the Live Control Room. Confirm channel eligibility and inspect the control-room status.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable. Check upload capacity against the stream bitrate, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce competing network use. YouTube notes network disruption can break a stream; test and monitor the actual connection.
- The livestream shows a copyright warning or placeholder. Stop using the flagged material until the rights issue is resolved. If you have permission, ask the rights holder whether Content ID allowlisting is required for your channel.
- The automatic archive is missing or incomplete. Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive for streams exceeding 12 hours. Check the separate local recording and plan future broadcasts with the archive limit in mind.
