To stream an Assamese internet radio channel continuously on YouTube, send an authorized station audio feed through a live-stream encoder to YouTube Live, and include a video output. First confirm that the station permits retransmission on YouTube and that your channel can go live. The exact encoder settings depend on the station’s feed format, which must be checked before configuring the system.
Before you start: confirm rights, feed details, and channel eligibility
Get permission to retransmit the station
Technical access to an internet radio feed does not establish permission to rebroadcast it. Ask the station and relevant rights holders whether their permissions cover a separate YouTube transmission, the intended territories, and any planned monetization. Do not assume that a licence for the original internet radio service also covers YouTube.
Indian law is relevant for Assamese stations and audiences in India: the Copyright Act, 1957 defines broadcast to include rebroadcast, and Section 31D provides a statutory-licensing route for certain broadcasts of published literary or musical works and sound recordings, subject to its provisions. The Copyright Rules set out notice procedures and timing for that route. These provisions do not determine whether a particular station can be relayed; the rights chain, licences, catalogue, territories, and intended use all matter. Confirm the position with the station and obtain qualified legal advice for the jurisdictions involved.
Check the actual radio feed
Obtain the feed URL and ask the station for its technical details, including its format and any access requirements. A generic internet-radio link may not be an encoder-ready input. The available YouTube encoder guidance does not explain how to acquire or convert an arbitrary radio URL, and without the station’s details it is not possible to specify a reliable input configuration, codec, or conversion method.

Make sure the YouTube channel is eligible
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to stream live. The same help page lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. These are YouTube’s stated platform limits, not a guarantee that a particular account or event setup will work; check the current YouTube Help page before launch.
Set up the continuous radio broadcast
- Choose an encoder. YouTube supports streaming software and standalone hardware encoders. Choose one that can accept the station’s authorized feed, produce an audiovisual output, and remain operational for the schedule you intend. The encoder category alone does not establish compatibility with your station’s feed.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a live stream or select the stream resource you plan to use. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides a YouTube Live server URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Enter the YouTube destination in the encoder. Set its server or destination field to the YouTube Live server URL and enter the stream key. YouTube Help’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” Treat the key as a credential: keep it private and do not include it in public notes, screenshots, or stream graphics.
- Connect the authorized station audio. Configure the encoder’s input using the station’s confirmed feed details and the encoder’s supported inputs. If the feed cannot be used directly, ask the station or encoder vendor what conversion path is supported rather than guessing at settings.
- Add a video output. YouTube Live is an audiovisual output, so pair the audio with a visual treatment. A static station image, visualizer, or other appropriate visual is an implementation choice; the cited YouTube guidance does not require one particular design for radio. Use imagery and branding you are permitted to display.
- Start the encoder and verify the preview. Start transmission from the encoder, then check the preview and connection status in Live Control Room. Confirm that the audio is present and intelligible, the intended visual appears, and the stream is connected before starting the broadcast through the selected YouTube workflow.
- Monitor and maintain the operation. Plan who will notice an encoder or feed failure, how the encoder will be restarted, and how you will handle changes between broadcasts. Keep the stream key secure and document who can access it. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting and starting a stream; they do not promise uninterrupted service or specify an uptime-monitoring system.
Choose a continuity model: one ongoing event or recurring broadcasts
“Continuous” can mean keeping a single event live for a long period, or scheduling successive broadcasts that reuse encoder settings. YouTube’s Live API describes an arrangement where a channel uses one liveStream resource for encoder settings and binds multiple liveBroadcast resources to it; only one event is live at a time in that arrangement. This can support recurring broadcasts, but it does not establish the best event model for every radio channel or guarantee that one event can run indefinitely.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not confirm automatic archiving for longer streams as one recording. If an archive matters, check YouTube’s current behavior and plan a recording or transition process that does not depend on an unverified archive assumption.

The sources establish these encoder categories, not comparative prices, reliability tests, or the best choice for a particular station. Base the decision on the feed’s real input requirements, who will monitor the broadcast, and the cost of keeping the chosen system operational.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Recheck channel eligibility, the server URL, and the stream key in the encoder. Confirm that the key is current and has not been exposed or replaced.
- The encoder cannot open the station feed: Verify the URL, access credentials, and feed format with the station. A public listening link is not necessarily an encoder-compatible input.
- The preview has video but no audio, or the audio is silent: Check that the authorized feed is connected to the encoder’s audio input and that the preview is receiving sound before going live.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Check whether the source feed, encoder, computer or device, or network connection stopped transmitting. Arrange a person or monitoring process to detect an interruption and restart the relevant component; the YouTube workflow does not itself promise uninterrupted continuity.
- The broadcast is live but no archive appears: Confirm the event duration and YouTube’s current archive behavior. Do not rely on the documented automatic archive condition for streams that are not under 12 hours.
- A scheduled successor does not start as expected: Verify that the next broadcast is properly configured and that the encoder is sending to the intended stream. The API’s reusable-stream arrangement allows multiple broadcast resources but only one event live at a time.
