You can relay a rights-cleared Tamil podcast archive to YouTube Live from a VPS by creating a stream in YouTube Studio, configuring an encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, and running a supervised playlist that loops your episodes. YouTube does not require a VPS or a particular encoder, and no single setup guarantees uninterrupted transmission. Plan separately for stream recovery, copyright checks, and YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: it must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s minimum age for livestreaming is 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A VPS with an encoder and enough capacity for the method you choose. YouTube does not prescribe VPS specifications; size it based on the actual encoding method and observed load.
- A playlist or equivalent sequence of podcast files, plus a visual to accompany the audio. Check that you have rights to the episodes, music, guest material, artwork, and any clips.
- The stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to publish to the stream.
Check episode rights and YouTube policy first
Before putting the archive on a loop, check the rights for every element, not just the podcast recording. That includes music beds, guest-contributed material, cover art or looping visuals, and third-party clips. A license for one part of an episode does not necessarily clear the rest.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and a warning; if the matched content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end it. Even licensed material may cause an interruption unless the rights holder adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after it finishes. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm any necessary allowlisting with the rights holder.
Create the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to use.
- In the stream’s settings, copy the server URL and stream key. Paste them into the encoder’s destination fields. YouTube documents this encoder connection flow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the key private. Do not place a real key in a public script, repository, screenshot, or support post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose RTMPS if the encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts the RTMP connection in transit. Most users should copy the URL YouTube Studio provides rather than assembling an ingestion endpoint manually.
For developers configuring RTMPS ingestion directly, Google specifies the rtmps protocol, a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint, port 443, and a hostname for TLS SNI authentication. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guidance.

Set encoder video and audio settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, its advanced-settings guidance recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions when configuring your encoder.

These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 rates, not a measurement of your VPS and not a requirement that every podcast use those resolutions. A static image or simple waveform can often be presented at a lower resolution if that suits the stream; verify the current YouTube encoder guidance and test the selected configuration.

Build a looping stream and supervise it on the VPS
Use an encoder playlist or another looping mechanism to play the archive in the order you want. Configure the process to continue through the final item and return to the beginning. The exact controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube does not require FFmpeg, systemd, or any particular playlist format.
For unattended operation, run the encoder under a process supervisor that can restart it after a process exit, and retain logs. Monitor both the VPS process and YouTube’s stream health: a process can be running while the stream is not being received correctly. A supervisor can restart a failed process, but it cannot guarantee that YouTube, the VPS provider, or the network will remain available.

- Stream-copying: sends compatible files without re-encoding. It uses less encoding work, but every file and its stream parameters must be compatible with the selected output.
- Re-encoding: converts files to a consistent output profile. It offers more control over mixed source formats but requires more CPU or hardware-encoding capacity. Observe actual VPS load before relying on it continuously.
- Network planning: keep outbound capacity above the chosen video and audio bitrate with room for overhead, and check that the VPS connection can sustain it. The official YouTube guidance cited here does not establish a universal bandwidth safety margin or VPS size.
Test the full playlist and intended audio and moving video before leaving it unattended. YouTube recommends testing with audio and moving video similar to the intended stream, then monitoring stream health during operation. Watch for encoder exits, upload interruptions, audio gaps, and failed transitions between files.
Plan YouTube sessions around the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube Help says: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” It does not promise that a stream running longer than 12 hours will be archived as one complete video. If a replay archive matters, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and start another session for the next block. A session boundary can interrupt the continuous broadcast, so weigh replay availability against an uninterrupted listening experience. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

When a different operating approach makes sense
A VPS and encoder give you direct control of the playlist, process, and stream settings, while leaving server administration, monitoring, and restart behavior to you. If you prefer not to manage a server, YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for continuous streaming of prerecorded video. Check its current capabilities, price, session and archive behavior, rights responsibilities, and terms directly before choosing it; YouTube’s listing is not a verification of those details. Troubleshoot common failures
