You can stream a Tamil devotional radio-style program on YouTube Live with an encoder such as OBS: prepare a visual, route your audio into the encoder, connect it to YouTube using a stream key, and test before going public. First, make sure you have the rights to every song, recording, performance, and visual you use. A devotional or traditional song is not automatically cleared for streaming.
Choose the right streaming method
YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. For a radio-style broadcast assembled from music or other audio with a title card, image, or other visual, an encoder is usually the practical choice: it sends the combined audio and video feed to YouTube. The best setup depends on where your station’s audio comes from.
- Mobile: suitable for a direct broadcast from a phone.
- Webcam: suitable for a computer-based camera broadcast.
- Encoder: suitable for combining audio, visuals, and overlays into a program feed. YouTube’s documented encoder options include OBS.
- Console: intended for console streaming rather than assembling a radio-style program.
For a basic audio-led broadcast, prioritize a stable connection and tested sound over high video resolution. YouTube’s HLS option is specialized for HDR or codecs unsupported by RTMP and is not required simply because a program is radio-style. Follow the protocol and settings supported by both your encoder and YouTube’s current guidance.

YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance, accessed in 2026, says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before planning a broadcast; restrictions can prevent you from starting one. YouTube’s requirements can change, so confirm them again in Studio before going live.

Clear the music, recording, and visual rights
Before scheduling, list every composition, sound recording, performance, and visual element in the program. A composition and a particular recording of it can have separate rights. Permissions also depend on the stream territory, repertoire, and whether you plan to keep or reuse the archive.
YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, expressly including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Local requirements and the rights for particular material depend on the stream territory and the exact content.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the content continues or a relevant strike occurs. If you have licensed third-party material, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; YouTube warns that a license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted. Do not assume an ordinary upload license, a Creator Music track, or a claim dispute authorizes a live broadcast. Creator Music’s published usage terms exclude live streams.

Set up the stream in YouTube and your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and review the current stream settings and protocol options.
- Prepare the program feed. In your encoder, set up the audio source and a visual feed, such as a title card. Confirm that the audio reaches the encoder and that the visual is present.
- Copy the connection details from Live Control Room. Enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube identifies the stream key as the credential that connects an encoder to YouTube. Treat it like a password: never publish or share it, and reset it if exposed.
- Set and verify audio. For general RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends stereo at 44.1 kHz with a 128 kbps audio bitrate. These are platform settings, not a guarantee of sound quality. Test the actual program, including speech, devotional vocals, and changes in music level.
- Start the encoder preview. Check that Live Control Room receives both picture and sound before starting the public broadcast.
Test the connection and audio before broadcasting
YouTube recommends running a test live stream, including one set to unlisted or public. Use the Live Control Room preview to catch problems before your intended broadcast.
- Confirm the event page is reachable from your channel and on a mobile device.
- Listen for clipping, silence, uneven levels, and unwanted background sounds. Check the full range of the program rather than only its opening.
- Check that your outbound upload bandwidth can sustain the selected bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% capacity as headroom.
- Watch stream health and audio/video quality while the test runs, and check them again during the broadcast.
Operate the broadcast and review its archive
Monitor Live Control Room for warnings while the stream is live. If YouTube identifies third-party content, stop or replace the affected material rather than assuming that a license will prevent interruption. Once the stream ends, review the archive and YouTube Studio notifications: YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after a live session completes. Recheck rights before reusing a program or changing its territory or rights status.

Troubleshoot common problems
