To stream prerecorded new-home walkthroughs as one continuous YouTube Live broadcast, build and loop the playlist in OBS Studio with its VLC Video source, then send OBS’s output to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The videos do not play from a YouTube playlist URL: your encoder plays the files and transmits them as a live stream.
What you need before you start
- The walkthrough video files, with permission to stream all included footage and other material.
- A computer that can play the files and remain on with OBS running for the broadcast.
- OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source may not appear until VLC is installed.
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube’s setup guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet its minimum-age requirement. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so complete setup well before the planned broadcast. Check current YouTube Help and Studio because eligibility requirements and interface labels can change.
For a straightforward rotation of existing files, OBS with VLC is the practical starting point; YouTube also supports encoder streaming from hardware encoders, which may suit a production workflow that already uses one.
Prepare the walkthrough playlist
Check files, order, and rights
Put the tours in the intended sequence and play each file locally before adding it. Confirm the picture, audio, and transitions between homes are appropriate. Decide whether you need a title card between tours, and make sure the stream title and description accurately explain that the broadcast contains prerecorded walkthroughs.

Only include video, music, photographs, graphics, and other material you are authorized to stream. Permission to record a property, show occupants, or use sales materials depends on your circumstances; YouTube’s general copyright guidance does not establish that you have those permissions.

Build a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if necessary. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. If the source option is missing, install VLC and reopen or refresh OBS before continuing.
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, choose a scene for the broadcast. Add a source and select VLC Video Source (the exact menu wording may vary by OBS version).
- Add the tour files. In the source properties, add the video files you want to play and arrange them in the desired order. Use files stored on the streaming computer and verify that each path remains available.
- Set playback behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence. Enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence after the final file. OBS describes this source as supporting a playlist of items, similar to an image slideshow.
- Check the scene output. Confirm the video is visible in the OBS preview, that audio is present if expected, and that the source is sized and positioned correctly. Test that playback advances to the next file and returns to the beginning.
OBS’s playlist controls determine the order and repetition; they do not validate whether your media files, rights, or complete broadcast setup are correct.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new encoder stream or schedule one for later. Scheduling can provide an upcoming watch page, a shareable URL, and reminder options.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the stream’s settings. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the URL and key as required by the selected service or custom-server workflow.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password: it authorizes the encoder to send a feed to YouTube. Do not show it in a screen capture, broadcast overlay, or public post. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
- Start a test feed and inspect YouTube’s preview. Start streaming from OBS and confirm the correct incoming video appears in Live Control Room. Check that the selected YouTube event is the one you intend to use.
- Go live and monitor playback. Once the preview and event are correct, start the public broadcast through YouTube Studio as prompted. Check the actual watch page, including on mobile, rather than relying only on the OBS preview.
Use an accurate title and description that identify the stream as prerecorded walkthroughs and name the homes or developments appropriately. YouTube recommends preparing in advance, previewing the feed, and testing the setup.

Keep the broadcast reliable and end it cleanly
During the stream, watch for frozen or missing video, absent audio, a failed transition, or a playlist that stops instead of looping. The computer and OBS must remain available and correctly configured throughout this local-encoder workflow. When finished, end the stream in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder; check YouTube’s current stream-management guidance for archiving behavior and interface details.
Copyright and YouTube Live risks
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies such material, it may display a warning or placeholder and can interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the content remains. YouTube notes that even licensed third-party material can trigger interruption unless the rights owner allowlists the channel through Content ID. Clear rights before streaming, and do not assume that a license alone guarantees uninterrupted live playback.

When to use a cloud option instead
If the broadcast must continue while no local computer is running, a cloud playout service is an alternative category to investigate. Compare current capabilities, costs, and terms directly; service reliability and value are not established here.
