To stream a recorded church sermon as a YouTube Live event from a Windows 11 PC, schedule or create the event in YouTube Studio, load the sermon into an OBS Media Source, connect OBS to YouTube using RTMPS, and check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. Verify the channel and test the church’s actual PC and internet connection well before the service date.
Before the service: check YouTube Live eligibility
Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time the channel is being enabled for live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete this check in advance. YouTube’s general start guidance says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guide.
The workflow is the same general YouTube-and-OBS process for a church in India; the official guidance cited here does not establish a separate India-only encoder setup, eligibility rule, or bandwidth level. Confirm the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio and test the connection at the location where the PC will stream.
Create or schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream using the encoder workflow. Set the event title, audience designation, visibility, and whether it should be scheduled or made available immediately.
- Open the event’s Live Control Room and obtain its connection details, or connect OBS using YouTube’s service option.
- If you use a stream key, keep it private. It authorizes a broadcaster to send video to your channel. YouTube explains stream keys and stream URLs in its live stream settings guide.
Prepare the sermon in OBS
- In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source.
- Enable the local-file option and select the sermon recording. OBS documents support for common video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Check the OBS Media Sources guide if your file does not load.
- For a single sermon, leave Loop off. Turn it on only if you intentionally want the recording to repeat. If you need a playlist, OBS also offers a VLC Video source; VLC must be installed, and the OBS guide specifies that 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- Check that the video fits the canvas and that the source’s audio appears on the OBS mixer meter. If the sermon includes overlays or other scene elements, verify that they do not obscure the picture or text.
Connect OBS and choose stream settings
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream and select YouTube (RTMPS), or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio if connecting manually. YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- For a typical SDR sermon, use H.264 video, AAC audio, Rec. 709 colour, and constant bitrate as a practical compatibility starting point. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the output you choose.
- Set the keyframe interval to the recommended two seconds; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a resolution and bitrate that the PC can encode and the available upload connection can sustain. Do not select HDR settings unless the source, graphics/encoder, and intended output support HDR.
There is no single bitrate that is right for every recording and connection. YouTube’s guidance is to keep the total stream bitrate below the upload bandwidth available to the encoder and recommends 20% headroom. Measure outbound upload speed on the network the church will actually use; other devices or a shared connection can reduce capacity during the event. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test the stream and start the event
- Plan ahead: YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled stream. These are operational recommendations, not guarantees of connection quality.
- Start streaming from OBS so YouTube can receive the signal. In the Live Control Room, wait for the preview and inspect the picture, sound, framing, and overlays.
- When the preview is correct, use the YouTube control to start the live event. Starting the encoder alone does not necessarily start the event for viewers.
- Monitor audio and video during the broadcast. When the event is over, end it in YouTube, then stop the encoder. If YouTube saves an archive, check it afterward to make sure the intended recording and audio came through.
Check copyright and permissions for the whole recording
Review the complete sermon file, not just the spoken message. Opening and closing music, hymn accompaniment, background tracks, photos, and video excerpts can all involve third-party rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; if it identifies material, a placeholder may replace the stream, and an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate it. YouTube says the provider must have the necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. A music license does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted streaming: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions, and confirm that the church has permission for every included work.
After the stream ends, an archived live broadcast can still receive a Content ID claim. Review the saved archive as well as the live preview.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, restrictions in the previous 90 days, and whether first-time live activation has completed. Initial enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS signal: Confirm that OBS is connected to YouTube (RTMPS) or has the correct event’s stream key. Treat the key as a credential; if it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The picture stutters or drops: Check whether the stream’s total bitrate exceeds available upload capacity. Re-test the connection at the church and reduce the output bitrate or resolution if necessary to leave the recommended 20% headroom.
- The sermon has no sound: Confirm that the Media Source is not muted, watch its audio meter while the file plays, and check the OBS audio routing and Live Control Room preview before starting the event.
- The recording repeats unexpectedly: Open the Media Source properties and turn off Loop unless replay is intentional.
- The stream is interrupted after a music or video match: Check the complete recording’s rights and YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance. A license alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption; the rights owner may need to allowlist the channel.
Do you need extra equipment?
For this PC workflow, OBS can play the recorded file and send it to YouTube; the available information does not establish that any additional physical item is necessary. YouTube’s encoder options include software and standalone hardware encoders. It describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone encoder with a PlayToStream feature for scheduled prerecorded media sent directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That is an alternative appliance-based approach, not a required purchase for the Windows 11 method. Consider microphones, webcams, capture cards, or network accessories only if the recording process or the PC’s connections create a specific need. YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not necessary for getting started.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOr let it run in the cloud
If you want the recorded sermon to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving the Windows PC on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams only to YouTube; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
