You can run a Rajasthani folk music radio-style stream on YouTube by sending an audio-and-video feed through a software or hardware encoder. Before going live, confirm your channel is eligible, clear the rights for each recording and underlying work, test the stream and its recovery plan, and make local recordings. A single 24-hour YouTube stream is not a dependable way to preserve a replay: streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived.

What you need before you launch

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
  • An encoder that can play the music and send a video signal, such as cleared artwork or another visual.
  • Written confirmation that your permissions cover the selected recordings and works, YouTube Live, relevant territories, and any replay you intend to offer.
  • A stable internet connection with upload capacity for the stream plus headroom, a monitoring plan, and local recording if you need an archive.

Check YouTube Live eligibility

YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so check access in YouTube Studio well before your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Clear rights for the actual Rajasthani catalogue

“Folk,” “traditional,” old, or attributed does not automatically mean that a particular recording or arrangement is cleared. For every track, identify the sound recording and the underlying musical and literary works, then confirm who controls the relevant rights. Permissions should cover the intended online live broadcast, territories, and any archive or replay. Do not assume that terrestrial-radio permission, a music subscription, attribution, non-monetized use, or the possible public-domain status of a composition clears the specific recording and arrangement for YouTube.

Account for Content ID and live interruptions

YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match can cause the stream to be replaced with a placeholder and a warning; unresolved content can lead to temporary interruption or termination. For licensed third-party material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube for Artists advises music channels to coordinate with their label or distributor when using copyright-protected music. The permission question is specific to your catalogue and agreements; ask the rights holders or qualified India-focused counsel rather than assuming a general rule resolves it. India’s Copyright Rules include a chapter on statutory licensing for broadcasting literary and musical works and sound recordings, but that chapter alone does not establish that a particular YouTube simulcast or Rajasthani catalogue is covered. See the Copyright Office material on statutory licensing and YouTube for Artists.

Set up the stream with an encoder

  1. Create the live stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast.
  2. Configure the encoder: In the encoder’s destination or server field, enter YouTube’s stream URL; paste the stream key into its stream-key field. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
  3. Build the audio-and-video feed: Add the playlist or playback source and a video signal. A music-only station can use a static image or other visual you have rights to use. Add a microphone, mixer, or audio interface only if the program includes a host or other live audio.
  4. Check the preview: Start the encoder output and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check that the artwork is visible and the audio is audible and at a suitable level before starting the public broadcast.
  5. Start and monitor: Start the stream in the encoder and confirm it is live in YouTube Studio and on the channel’s watch page.

YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Its verified-encoder guidance names AJA HELO Plus as one hardware option; it is not required, and a verified listing is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation. Choose hardware only if its inputs, automation, redundancy, or local-recording functions solve a real need. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Plan for continuity, not just the first start

A 24/7 schedule is an operational goal, not a guarantee that the stream will stay uninterrupted. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. Before launch, test the encoder setup, preview, backup-encoder failover if you use one, and local recording; check the stream from the channel or watch page and a mobile device. Assign someone to respond if power, internet, playback, or the encoder fails, and monitor both audio and video quality. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Software or dedicated hardware?

Both are supported, so compare the complete operating setup rather than assuming a hardware encoder is necessary. Consider total cost, unattended playback and restart behavior, required inputs and outputs, backup or failover options, and whether local recording is available. A simple music-and-artwork stream may not need dedicated equipment; a more complex or higher-availability operation may justify it after testing. No encoder alone guarantees 24/7 uptime.

  • PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
  • WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. • FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

Protect the replay with shorter sessions and local recordings

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replay availability matters, schedule a series of bounded sessions under 12 hours and record the program locally as a separate backup. A single all-day stream should not be treated as a reliable archive strategy. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common launch and continuity problems

  • Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification and restrictions in YouTube Studio. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck that the stream URL and stream key were copied into the correct encoder fields for the intended stream. Confirm the encoder is sending and look for an incoming preview in Live Control Room before going public.
  • The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check that upload capacity exceeds the total stream bitrate with the recommended 20% headroom. Inspect the internet connection and encoder, and test backup failover if configured.
  • The stream is interrupted over music: Review the match notice and contact the relevant rights holder. For licensed material, ask the owner about Content ID allowlisting; permission and allowlisting are separate matters to verify.
  • A replay is missing after a long broadcast: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Use shorter sessions and confirm that a separate local recording is being written.
  • Audio or artwork is wrong: Check the incoming preview before starting, then monitor the live watch page and a mobile device. Confirm the playback source and local recording are also functioning.
