You can send a prerecorded Islamic lecture playlist to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, but the stream is only as continuous as the computer, power, internet connection, and YouTube broadcast session behind it. First confirm your channel can livestream and that you have rights to every recording and asset. Then prepare a compatible playlist, connect FFmpeg to the RTMPS ingest details from YouTube Live Control Room, and monitor the broadcast. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, so a single live event should not be treated as an indefinitely running 24/7 broadcast.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
- FFmpeg installed on a computer or host that will remain powered on and connected during the broadcast. The commands below use a shell; adapt quoting if you use a different operating system.
- Video files you are authorized to stream, with enough upload capacity for the chosen output bitrate and enough local or host storage for the files.
- The stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or publish it in a script or screenshot.
India does not have one reliable upload-speed, power-continuity, or hosting-latency figure that applies to every operator. Measure the actual connection and power setup where the encoder will run; a UPS or remote host may help with local outages, but neither guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
Clear rights for the complete lecture playlist
Before you stream, check rights for the complete recording—not just the speaker’s lecture. That includes embedded nasheeds or other music, recitations, photographs, slides, background audio, and any third-party clips. Permission from a speaker may not cover material incorporated into the recording by someone else. This is a practical rights check, not India-specific legal advice.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder and trigger a warning; if the matched content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A rights-cleared broadcast can still be interrupted if the relevant rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and, where relevant, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.

Prepare the files and playlist manifest
Check the media first
Inspect the lecture files before building the stream. Note each file’s video and audio streams, codecs, time bases, frame rates, resolution, and audio format. You can use ffprobe to inspect a file, for example:

The FFmpeg concat demuxer can join files without re-encoding only when the relevant stream structures, codecs, and time bases match. If they do not, standardize the files first or use a re-encoding workflow. FFmpeg also warns that inaccurate duration information can cause timestamp artifacts or gaps. Create the manifest
Put the files in the intended order and create a plain-text file named playlist.txt in that folder. Use one file entry per recording, with paths that match the manifest’s location:

Use relative paths for files beside the manifest, or absolute paths if the files are elsewhere. If a filename contains a single quote, escape it correctly or rename the file to avoid parsing problems. Do not add hand-estimated duration lines to conceal mismatched media; fix the source files or use a suitable re-encoding workflow instead.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
1. Create the broadcast and copy the ingest details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Copy the RTMPS stream URL and stream key provided for that stream. Use the RTMPS endpoint and application path shown by YouTube, rather than guessing an endpoint. Google’s RTMPS documentation specifies the
rtmpsprotocol, a valid YouTube endpoint and path, port 443, and SSL transport. See Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS. - Combine the URL and key exactly as required by the endpoint instructions, and store the resulting destination securely. Do not put a real key in a public script, article, command history, or support screenshot.
2. Choose stream-copy or re-encoding
There is no single command that is safe for every set of source files and every FFmpeg build. The following stream-copy example is for a playlist whose files have compatible streams and timing, and whose video and audio formats YouTube accepts. Replace the destination variable with the full RTMPS destination constructed from your Live Control Room details:

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv "$YOUTUBE_INGEST"
-re reads at approximately real-time speed, -stream_loop -1 repeats the concat input indefinitely, and -c copy avoids re-encoding. The indefinite loop applies to FFmpeg’s input; it does not make YouTube’s live event or archive run forever. Do not use stream copy if the files’ streams are incompatible or if you need to change codec, bitrate, frame rate, or other media properties.
If source files need conversion, first standardize them into a consistent format, or build a concat-filter workflow that decodes, transforms, and re-encodes the segments. The concat filter is the re-encoding route when transformations are needed; stream copy cannot apply filters. Test the resulting file sequence locally before broadcasting. The exact filter graph depends on the files’ stream layout and desired output, so do not paste an unverified one-size-fits-all command into a live session.

3. Set output quality to match your connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video options, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds, and testing with the actual audio/video before going live. For stereo audio, its recommendation is 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Choose a bitrate from YouTube’s current resolution-and-frame-rate table and leave capacity for network variation; do not select a bitrate based only on the nominal speed shown by an internet plan. YouTube transcodes the incoming broadcast for viewer formats, so you do not need to create every viewer rendition yourself. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the applicable table.
If you re-encode, set the encoder and bitrate options to the chosen output rather than copying source settings blindly. For example, with an H.264 output, the relevant FFmpeg options include -c:v libx264, -b:v and matching rate-control values for CBR behavior, and -g for a keyframe interval calculated from the output frame rate. The value of -g is frames, not seconds: at 30 fps, a two-second interval is 60 frames. Choose the audio encoder and bitrate as well. Verify the resulting stream settings and YouTube health indicators; if your measured upload capacity cannot sustain the selected bitrate, reduce output quality or bitrate before the broadcast.

- Play through the complete playlist locally, including the transitions between files. Check that speech is audible, the video is visible, and there are no unexpected black frames, silent sections, or timing jumps.
- Start FFmpeg and confirm that Live Control Room detects the incoming encoder signal. Check the preview and stream health before making the broadcast public or beginning the scheduled event.
- Monitor audio, picture, connection stability, and YouTube’s stream-health indicators during operation. A successful FFmpeg connection does not prove that every file transition or the rights status is trouble-free.
Plan for the 24/7 operating limits
FFmpeg can loop its input continuously, but that is not the same as a guaranteed, uninterrupted YouTube Live event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Plan to end and start subsequent broadcasts before relying on a single event for continuous coverage, and test the handoff procedure. A restart may create a gap; neither FFmpeg nor the cited YouTube guidance establishes a guaranteed seamless rollover. Keep an operator or a tested recovery plan available for host reboots, network loss, encoder errors, rights warnings, and broadcast turnover.
With a local computer, the computer must remain on and the connection must remain available. A remote server can move the encoder away from home, while a UPS can help a local machine ride through some power interruptions; these are operational choices, not YouTube requirements or uptime guarantees. Estimate the ongoing cost of electricity, internet, host rental, storage, and monitoring against the length and reliability you need.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not show an incoming stream: Confirm the stream is enabled in Live Control Room, first-time activation has completed, and the RTMPS URL, application path, and key are copied correctly. Check that the host can reach the RTMPS service over port 443. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube rather than reusing it.
- FFmpeg reports concat or codec errors: Compare the source streams with
ffprobe. The concat demuxer requires matching stream structure, codecs, and time bases for stream copy. Standardize or transcode incompatible files instead of forcing them through-c copy. - Gaps, timestamp jumps, or broken transitions: Check file durations, ordering, and media timestamps. FFmpeg notes inaccurate durations can create artifacts. Test a complete cycle and correct or standardize the source files before going live.
- Buffering, dropped frames, or unstable health: Measure actual sustained upload capacity at the encoder location, compare it with the chosen bitrate, and reduce bitrate or output quality if necessary. Use CBR and YouTube’s current settings recommendations.
- Audio is missing or inconsistent: Confirm that every segment has the expected audio stream and that the formats are compatible. Listen to the finished sequence; a media file can be present while its audio is silent or mapped unexpectedly.
- A placeholder, warning, or stream termination appears: Check the matched material and resolve the rights issue. If the material is licensed, contact the rights holder about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist; possession of a license alone may not prevent automated interruption.
- The broadcast stops near an event turnover: Check FFmpeg logs, host uptime, power and network availability, and the YouTube event state. Prepare the next broadcast before the current one reaches YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive threshold.
