Larix Broadcaster is documented for sending mobile live video to YouTube, not for selecting and playing a pre-recorded playlist. To broadcast a playlist of existing videos, use OBS on a computer to play the local files in sequence and send the encoder output to YouTube Live. Larix can still be useful for a live camera feed, but the reviewed official documentation does not establish it as the playlist player.
Can Larix Broadcaster play a pre-recorded playlist?
Softvelum documents Larix Broadcaster for mobile live capture and publishing, including RTMP/RTMPS output to YouTube. The official Larix material reviewed does not document choosing local prerecorded files as a playlist input. That is a limit of what the reviewed documentation establishes, not proof that no device-specific workaround exists. See Larix Broadcaster and its documentation.
For a playlist that must play as the YouTube program, use an encoder with a documented local-media playlist source. OBS Media Source supports local files and playlist controls for ordered or shuffled playback. The computer running OBS must remain on and connected while the stream is being sent.

OBS’s documentation lists common local formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM; test the actual files in your installed OBS version because file extensions alone do not guarantee that every codec will play correctly. See OBS Media Sources.

Prepare the playlist in OBS
- Check the files. Keep the video and audio files accessible on the computer during the broadcast. Test each clip in OBS and confirm that both picture and sound play.
- Add a Media Source. In OBS, add a Media Source and enable its playlist controls. Add the files in the sequence you want. Choose ordered playback or shuffle according to the program you intend to show.
- Preview playback. Start the source in OBS and check that the first clip, transitions between clips, and audio behave as expected. A playlist is only useful if the encoder can read every file and the intended audio is present.
- Keep the computer available. OBS plays the local media and sends the encoded stream, so leave the computer running, keep OBS open, and maintain a stable internet connection for the length of the broadcast.
OBS controls can vary by installed build. Use the OBS Media Sources documentation for the current details on local media and playlist behavior.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- Enable live streaming in advance. If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says enablement may take up to 24 hours. Do not wait until the planned start time to discover that the feature is not yet available. See YouTube’s encoder streaming help.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream you plan to use. You can schedule an event if you want to preview the encoder feed before the public start.
- Copy the ingest details from YouTube Studio. Use that stream’s server URL and stream key in OBS’s stream settings. Enter the exact values shown for the selected stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Use the current YouTube encoder guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. Its general guidance includes H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Set what OBS and your system support, and check the current YouTube encoder settings before streaming; platform recommendations can change.
- Start OBS and check the preview. Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, verify that YouTube receives the feed and inspect the preview before going live. For a scheduled stream, you may need to select Go live in Live Control Room after the preview is ready.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the OBS stream and end the event in YouTube Studio as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume this applies to longer streams.
Where Larix fits in this setup
Larix’s documented YouTube workflow is for a mobile live feed: the app publishes to an RTMP/RTMPS endpoint using the server and stream-key details from YouTube. Softvelum provides rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2 as an example server address, but use the actual URL and key shown in YouTube Studio for your stream. See Softvelum’s Larix documentation.

Softvelum’s YouTube example uses a video-plus-audio connection mode; it does not establish a video-only or audio-only setup for that example. Nor does the example show Larix selecting and sequencing local prerecorded files. If your goal is a playlist, make OBS the player and encoder. Larix is relevant when you want to contribute a live mobile camera feed instead. Softvelum lists Larix Broadcaster for iOS and Android, with iOS 16.0 and Android 7.0 compatibility on its product page; check the current app listing because availability and requirements can change. See Softvelum’s product page and its documentation.

Copyright and YouTube policy checks before you stream
- Have rights to every item in the playlist. Permission to upload or play a file does not necessarily include permission to broadcast it publicly. Check licenses for video, music, images, and other included material.
- Review YouTube’s rules for your channel and content. A technically valid encoder feed does not guarantee that a stream is eligible for monetization or complies with YouTube policies. Reused content and copyright are separate considerations; review the applicable YouTube rules rather than assuming a loop is permitted.
- Check the full playlist, not only its first clip. Confirm that later items have the right audio, aspect ratio, and content, and that shuffle is off if the sequence matters.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | Wrong or outdated server URL or stream key, or OBS is not sending. | Copy the server URL and key again from the selected YouTube stream, verify OBS stream settings, and check that streaming has started. |
| Live Control Room shows no preview | The encoder has not connected yet, or the wrong stream was selected. | Confirm OBS is streaming and compare the selected Live Control Room event with the ingest details configured in OBS. |
| A playlist item is black, silent, or skipped | The file may not decode in the installed OBS build, the source settings may be wrong, or the clip may lack an audio track. | Test that file locally in OBS, verify source and playlist settings, and check its audio before relying on it in the live sequence. |
| Audio or video is unstable | Encoder settings, computer load, or network conditions may not sustain the configured stream. | Use YouTube’s current codec and bitrate guidance, check OBS performance and connection indicators, and test the full setup before the scheduled event. |
| Larix does not show a playlist option | The reviewed official Larix documentation describes mobile live publishing, not a local playlist source. | Use OBS Media Source for the prerecorded playlist; use Larix for its documented live mobile capture workflow. |
