Yes: a VPS in India can run an encoder that continuously sends a podcast-style audio/video feed to YouTube Live. You need a media source, an encoder, enough sustained upload bandwidth, YouTube’s ingest address and stream key, and a way to supervise and restart the encoder. The sticker price of the VPS is only part of the cost: calculate monthly data transfer at your chosen bitrate and check overage terms before committing.
How the VPS-to-YouTube setup works
The VPS runs an encoder that reads a prepared podcast file or other media source and sends one live ingest stream to YouTube. YouTube then transcodes the incoming stream into output formats for viewers, so the server does not need to create every viewer rendition itself.
A still image or simple visual can keep a talk-focused podcast stream visually present while reducing encoding complexity. There is no established optimal image size or bitrate for this specific use case, so treat settings below as a starting point to test rather than a guarantee.

Choose an ingest bitrate and calculate transfer
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264 at a constant bitrate (CBR), with a two-second keyframe interval and no interval longer than four seconds. The transfer estimates are arithmetic approximations for an uninterrupted stream at the stated bitrate for 30 days; actual usage varies with stream behavior and protocol overhead. A talk podcast with a simple visual can begin with a 720p30 test, but it is not a universally optimal setting. Choose the lowest quality that meets your presentation needs, then verify the real stream.
Compare the calculated monthly transfer with the VPS plan’s included allowance and its overage policy. For a continuous stream, a one-time speed test does not establish that a server will sustain the required upload for a month.

Configure YouTube Live and connect the VPS
- Prepare the source. Decide what the stream will play, such as a podcast recording with a visual. Confirm you have rights to the audio, artwork, and any other material you broadcast.
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio. Select the appropriate stream settings and retrieve the ingest address and stream key. Keep the key private: do not place it in public scripts, screenshots, repositories, or logs. Rotate it if it is exposed.
- Configure the encoder on your selected VPS. Set the output resolution and frame rate, H.264 video, CBR, and the applicable bitrate. Use a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds, following YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Use RTMPS where supported. RTMPS sends RTMP through an SSL connection. The connection must use a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and path, the correct protocol, and port 443. Follow Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation for the endpoint details; do not guess or substitute a server address.
- Start privately and inspect the result. Before making the broadcast public, send the actual planned audio and video at the intended bitrate. Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and confirm that audio, picture, and timing are acceptable. YouTube transcodes the incoming live stream for viewers; your VPS supplies the ingest feed.
- Test recovery separately. On the chosen server, test what happens if the encoder process stops and if the VPS reboots. Arrange process supervision and restart behavior appropriate to your server image and operating system. YouTube’s documentation does not promise that your VPS process will restart or that the stream will remain uninterrupted.
Select a VPS by total cost and operating fit
Do not choose solely by the advertised monthly price. Compare the actual checkout cost for the billing region, including tax, currency conversion, IPv4 charges, included transfer, and excess-transfer fees. - Check that included monthly transfer exceeds your estimated continuous use and understand what happens at the limit.
- Confirm the server can sustain the chosen encoding workload and upload rate, not merely burst to a high speed.
- Consider the server’s region and network route to YouTube’s ingestion service.
- Decide how you will supervise the encoder, recover from failures, and protect the stream key.
- Check the provider’s support and recovery expectations; do not treat a low sticker price as an uptime guarantee.
