To stream a looping video at a scheduled time, schedule the event in YouTube Studio and use an encoder to send it a video or playlist set to repeat. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; the encoder supplies the live feed. Connect the encoder with the event’s stream URL and stream key, start the feed, check the preview, then select Go live unless you have confirmed auto-start is enabled.
Before you schedule the stream
- Enable live streaming on your channel. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours; this is a possible setup delay, not a guaranteed wait. Once enabled, a stream can go live instantly. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Choose an encoder that can repeat your media. The loop is configured in the encoder or its media source—not in the YouTube watch page. The encoder must keep sending the video feed for the event to remain live.
- Prepare the video or playlist. Confirm the file plays correctly and that the encoder can access it for the whole broadcast. For unattended operation with local software, the computer and encoder must remain running and connected.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and select Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new event.
- Set the scheduled date and time and enter the event details. Review the audience and visibility choices before saving.
- Promote the scheduled event if you want viewers to find its watch page and opt in to notifications.
Scheduling the event does not start a video feed by itself. You still need to connect an encoder and send the repeating content.
Set the video to repeat in your encoder
Use an encoder whose media source or playlist supports repeat/loop playback. Add the video (or playlist), enable its repeat behavior, and verify it continues from the beginning rather than stopping after one play. OBS is one software encoder option. Looping controls belong to the encoder; YouTube’s event settings do not make a one-time video repeat.

Encoder interfaces change, so check the current documentation for the encoder you choose for its exact loop-control steps. YouTube’s setup guidance covers connecting an encoder, but does not specify current OBS menu clicks for looping a media source.

Connect the encoder and start the scheduled broadcast
- Open the scheduled event’s setup in YouTube Studio and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- In the encoder, choose YouTube as the destination if it is offered. Otherwise, paste the event’s stream URL into the server field and its stream key into the key field.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not share it publicly; if it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before using the event.
- Start streaming from the encoder. Confirm the repeating video is playing and wait for the feed preview to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
- Select Go live when the preview is ready, unless you have checked that auto-start is enabled for this event and intend to rely on it.
YouTube documents auto-start as a setting, and its API exposes scheduled-start and automatic-start behavior. Do not assume that scheduling alone will publish the incoming feed automatically: check the setting on the actual event. YouTube Live Streaming API reference
Choose manual confirmation or auto-start
- Manual confirmation: You start the encoder feed, inspect the preview, and click Go live. This gives you a chance to catch a wrong source or a missing feed before the event is public.
- Auto-start: Use it only after verifying the event’s setting and testing that the encoder feed arrives as expected. It can remove the manual start click, but it does not remove the need for a working encoder feed or monitoring.
End the stream and understand the archive limit
Stop the broadcast deliberately when the event should end. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a longer looping stream will be saved as one complete replay, so do not rely on a single archive for a stream that exceeds that duration. Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled event exists, but viewers see no live video: Scheduling does not supply a feed. Start the encoder and confirm it is sending the event’s stream URL and key.
- The encoder is sending, but YouTube has no preview: Check the destination URL and stream key, confirm the encoder is online, and allow time for the preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- The event has a preview but has not gone live: Click Go live, or verify auto-start is enabled for that event. Do not infer auto-start from the scheduled time alone.
- The video plays once and stops: Enable repeat/loop in the encoder’s media source or playlist, then verify playback reaches the end and starts again.
- The broadcast stops when you leave: A local encoder depends on the computer, software, and internet connection staying available. For a cloud alternative, see the next section.
- You cannot start a first-ever live stream immediately: YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Activate it ahead of the scheduled event.
