Test the loop and audio in YouTube Studio before going public. You need a computer and a reliable internet connection; a camera and microphone are not necessary for prerecorded material.
How do I stream a looping Gregorian chant meditation video on YouTube Live?
The workflow is: confirm your channel can stream, prepare a recording you have permission to use, create the live event in YouTube Studio, configure an encoder to repeat the source, then test the feed and monitor it during the event. YouTube receives the feed from the encoder; it does not itself provide the loop control described here.
1. Check live-stream eligibility in advance
YouTube’s current guidance requires a verified channel, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and a creator who is at least 16. First-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
2. Prepare the video and confirm rights
Choose the specific Gregorian chant performance, recording, arrangement, and visuals you intend to use. Keep records of the permissions or licenses that cover the live transmission, relevant territories, any YouTube archive, and later reuse. A traditional composition does not automatically make a modern recording or arrangement free to broadcast.

YouTube’s terms place responsibility on the content provider to hold all necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights involving performers, record labels, publishers, public-performance licensing, and other royalty participants. Review the YouTube Terms of Service and consult the relevant rights holder or a qualified adviser if the scope is unclear.
3. Create the YouTube Live event and retrieve its credentials
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream and select the encoder-based streaming workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that event into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings.
The stream key tells YouTube where to accept the encoder’s feed. Treat it like a password: do not post it, include it in a screenshot, or share it in a public tutorial. YouTube explains encoder setup in its live encoder help.
4. Configure a computer encoder to repeat the source
Use encoder software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. In the encoder, add the prepared video and chant audio as the source, enable repeat or loop for that source, and enter the event’s server URL and stream key. Exact loop controls depend on the encoder and its version; consult that encoder’s current documentation and verify the behavior rather than assuming YouTube supplies the repeat function. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output.
For a prerecorded stream, a camera, webcam, and microphone are optional—not basic requirements. They matter if you plan to add a live host, commentary, or performance. A computer capable of running the chosen encoder and a stable connection are the essentials; YouTube says available equipment may be sufficient and expensive gear is not inherently necessary.

5. Connect, preview, and test before going public
- Start the encoder’s feed to YouTube using the event credentials.
- Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room preview. Check that the picture and chant audio are present and that the source actually repeats as intended.
- Run a test before the event using audio and video movement similar to the planned stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- When the preview is correct, use the Live Control Room’s go-live control as appropriate for the event.
YouTube’s live tips recommend configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before the event, checking the preview, confirming the event is accessible, and monitoring audio and video quality. These are preparation recommendations, not a guarantee that a stream will remain uninterrupted.
Which encoder settings suit a continuous chant stream?
Use settings supported by your encoder and connection. YouTube generally recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to YouTube. For RTMP/RTMPS, its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, the advanced recommendations include 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings because supported ingest and recommended values can change.
Choose resolution and bitrate together
The following are YouTube’s H.264 guidance for the specified resolution and frame rate, accessed in 2026. They are platform recommendations, not a promise of resulting quality or a requirement that a mostly still meditation scene use the higher resolution.
| Output | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
Pick a resolution your connection can sustain steadily. A stable 720p30 feed may be a more practical choice than 1080p30 if upload capacity is limited or the visual is largely static.

Leave network headroom
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must stay below available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Run an upload-speed test under conditions similar to the broadcast, and include any backup feed in the total if you use one. Network disruption can break a stream. Ethernet is an optional way to connect a computer, not a stated YouTube requirement. See YouTube’s streaming tips for network preparation.
RTMPS or HLS?
RTMPS is YouTube’s general recommendation. HLS has separate ingest settings and sends video in segments, resulting in higher latency. Choose HLS only when a supported encoder or codec requirement makes it appropriate; follow YouTube’s HLS ingest guidance and the encoder’s current instructions.
How do I keep a meditation livestream running reliably?
A long stream depends on the computer or encoder, the media source, and the network continuing to work; the YouTube setup guidance does not guarantee a particular machine’s stability or automatic recovery behavior. Check the encoder’s current documentation for reconnect and restart options, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages throughout the event.
- Use a tested source file and confirm its repeat setting before scheduling.
- Close unnecessary workloads on the encoder computer and prevent avoidable interruptions to its power or network connection.
- Keep the stream key private and verify you are sending to the intended event.
- Watch stream health, picture, and audio rather than relying only on the fact that the encoder says it is running.
- When finished, stop the stream deliberately through the encoder and Live Control Room workflow. Review the archive if one is enabled, and ensure your rights also cover that archive and any later use.
Or let it run in the cloud

Common problems and fixes
YouTube does not accept the stream
Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, the event is the one you intended, and the encoder has that event’s current server URL and stream key. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
The video or audio does not repeat
Check the encoder’s source-level repeat setting and test through a complete end of file before going live. YouTube’s cited setup guidance covers ingest but does not specify loop controls for each encoder application.
The feed buffers or loses connection
Check upload capacity and keep total bitrate within the available bandwidth, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce resolution or bitrate if necessary, then test again. Inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages and the encoder’s reconnect guidance; no single recovery behavior is guaranteed across encoders.
The stream is silent or the picture is wrong
Confirm the intended audio track and video source are selected in the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. Test with representative audio and video rather than relying on a still preview alone.

A rights claim or restriction appears
Recheck permissions for the exact recording and arrangement and the uses involved, including the live stream and archive. Do not assume that a composition’s age settles the rights status of a particular recording.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use only a still image with Gregorian chant audio?
The workflow can use prepared picture and audio sources; test the encoder output and YouTube preview with the actual material before the event.
Do I need a camera or microphone to stream prerecorded chant?
No. They are only needed if you add a live host, commentary, or performance.
