To stream a Kannada radio channel on YouTube around the clock, send the radio audio and a rights-cleared visual to YouTube Live Control Room through an encoder such as OBS, then keep the encoder running and monitor it. First confirm that the channel is eligible and that you have permission for every recording, jingle, advert, presenter segment, and relayed broadcast. YouTube can interrupt a live stream for detected third-party content, and a continuous stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived as a replay.
Before you set up the broadcast
Confirm YouTube Live access
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s current status in Live Control Room before you plan a launch. YouTube’s published limits, accessed in 2026, are up to 10 active streams per channel and up to 3 per stream key; confirm the current limits in YouTube Help because platform rules can change. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Clear the rights to the full radio feed
List every item that may air, including music, jingles, adverts, presenter recordings, and any third-party broadcast you relay. Secure permission for the intended use and territory. Kannada is a language and repertoire, not a separate YouTube streaming protocol; the rights depend on the actual catalog, contracts, territories, and rights holders.
Recommended Free Tools
YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube detects third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption: if a rights holder uses Content ID, ask it to add your channel to its allowlist before going live. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose how the stream will run
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming, which can combine audio and video and accommodate overlays or hardware. Two decisions shape the setup: where the encoder runs and whether it is software or dedicated hardware.
| Choice | What it means | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local computer | An encoder runs on a computer at the station or another location you control. | You can access it directly, but a local power or network interruption can stop the feed. Arrange monitoring and a restart plan. |
| Remote hosted encoder | An encoder runs on a remote server, a workflow described by a practitioner guide. | It avoids dependence on the station’s local computer, but still depends on the server, its network, and restart automation. Test recovery; no guaranteed uptime is established for this approach. |
| Software encoder | A program such as OBS sends the stream from the computer where it is running. | OBS says it is free and open source, with no watermark or usage limitations, and can be used commercially. It is a practical way to start if you can keep a suitable computer running. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A hardware device encodes and sends the audio/video feed. | YouTube supports encoder workflows, but the cited guidance does not establish that dedicated hardware is required or inherently more reliable than software. |
For an initial setup, use the encoder arrangement your team can configure, monitor, and restart. YouTube recommends monitoring and testing failover; its guidance does not establish that local or remote hosting is inherently more reliable. A practitioner walkthrough describes static or looping visuals and local versus VPS encoding, but that is an example rather than a YouTube requirement: RadioTech Studio’s 24/7 radio streaming guide.

Set up the Kannada radio stream
- Prepare the feed and visual. Connect the audio source you have permission to broadcast to the encoder. Add a station logo, schedule, or other visual that you have rights to use. A static image or looping visual is one possible presentation; YouTube does not require that specific format. Make sure the audio is present and intelligible in the encoder preview.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Choose encoder streaming and follow the on-screen setup to create or select the broadcast. Copy the stream key into the encoder’s YouTube streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Start with a private or unlisted test. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview to show the feed before taking the broadcast public. Check that the video is visible and the audio is audible, then open the watch page from another device or a mobile connection to confirm viewers can reach it.
- Test the recovery plan. Simulate a safe interruption before launch, such as stopping and restarting the encoder during a test broadcast. Verify who receives alerts, who can restart the encoder, and what viewers see while the feed is unavailable. YouTube recommends testing failover and monitoring audio and video; it does not promise automatic recovery for your chosen encoder setup. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start the public broadcast and monitor it. Once the preview and test are satisfactory, make the broadcast public. Keep someone responsible for checking the stream’s audio and video, alerts, and encoder status. Do not treat a 24/7 broadcast as a set-and-forget system.
Plan for monitoring, interruptions, and replays
Assign a person and a recovery procedure
Decide who checks the stream, who can restart the encoder, and what happens if the radio source, network, or server fails. Keep credentials secure and test the actual recovery procedure rather than assuming that a remote server, software encoder, or YouTube will restart the stream for you. YouTube’s encoder tips recommend failover testing and continuous audio/video monitoring, not a particular uptime level.
Keep a local recording if the program archive matters
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A full-day uninterrupted broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. If you need a program archive, record it locally and verify that the recording is growing and can be played back. YouTube’s archive guidance is at Archive live streams.

- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Cost and equipment considerations
You do not have to buy an encoder subscription just to start: OBS is free, open-source software. A computer, dedicated encoder, audio interface, microphone, backup storage, UPS, or network equipment may suit a particular station, but none is established as necessary merely to relay an existing radio feed. YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify a required computer model, minimum hardware specification, or a guaranteed operating cost. Choose equipment based on the feed and the operating plan, and test it before a public launch. OBS details are available from the OBS Project Help Portal.
