To stream a model home tour on YouTube Live all day, set up a continuous broadcast, send a camera feed through a compatible encoder or camera streaming system, and test the entire path—from the installed camera and internet connection to the viewer’s watch page—before launch. Enable YouTube Live in advance, choose the right audience setting, and plan for power, connectivity, privacy, and someone who can respond if the feed fails.
Choose the kind of tour you want to broadcast
Start by deciding whether the stream will show one fixed view or a guided tour that changes between cameras. A fixed view is simpler to produce. Switching among views requires an encoder or production setup that can accept and manage the selected camera sources. YouTube supports encoder workflows using external video and audio equipment, including multi-camera productions; its encoder information also lists CamStreamer for compatible Axis cameras and describes it as supporting continuous and scheduled streams. YouTube’s encoder information does not mean every camera can stream directly, so verify the exact camera, app, and installation requirements with their manufacturer.
- Fixed camera: Choose a view that clearly shows the intended room or feature without accidentally exposing private areas.
- Guided or multi-camera tour: Select a production path that accepts the cameras and gives an operator the controls needed to switch views.
- Unattended installation: Confirm the camera and streaming system are designed to operate unattended for the planned duration, and determine how someone will check stream health and respond to a failure.
Enable YouTube Live and create the broadcast
- Enable live streaming on the channel ahead of launch. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until the day of the tour. See YouTube’s instructions for getting started with live streaming.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Set its title, description, audience, and privacy mode. YouTube supports public, unlisted, and private streams; select one based on who should be able to watch.
- Copy the stream key and server URL shown in Studio into your encoder. YouTube uses the key to identify the feed sent by the encoder. Treat it as a credential: share it only with authorized operators and reset it if it is exposed.
- Start a test broadcast and confirm it reaches YouTube. Verify the resulting watch page from a separate viewer device before relying on the setup.
YouTube distinguishes the broadcast—the event or video presented to viewers—from the stream that carries the audio and video feed. For a persistent model-home tour, configure an ongoing broadcast and its stream. YouTube’s Live API guide, last updated September 14, 2026, describes a 24/7 feed that can continue while a separate broadcast, such as an interview, is made available at the same time. It also describes reusing a stream for recurring broadcasts when only one event is live at a time.
Set resolution, bitrate, and encoder options
Choose resolution and frame rate according to what the cameras, encoder, and actual upstream connection can sustain without interruption. YouTube’s published bitrate values are recommendations, not a measurement of the model home’s internet service. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube recommends 5 Mbps. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for other resolution and frame-rate combinations.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
- Video: Use a codec and settings supported by YouTube and the selected encoder. Match the output resolution and frame rate to the production plan.
- Bitrate mode: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) for the listed encoder settings.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends; do not exceed four seconds.
- Connection: Use RTMPS for encrypted delivery where the encoder supports it.
- Audio: Check the selected audio codec, microphone or ambient sound, and levels in the actual room. A quiet, stable image can still be a poor tour if HVAC noise or clipping overwhelms the sound.
Test at the exact intended resolution, frame rate, and bitrate using motion and audio similar to the final feed. A static encoder preview does not establish that the installed system or site connection will remain healthy for a full day.
Set up the viewer experience
- Privacy: Public streams are discoverable; unlisted streams are generally reached by people with the link; private streams restrict access. Check the current YouTube Studio options and choose deliberately for the property and intended audience.
- Scheduling: Schedule the stream if an upcoming listing and viewer notification are useful.
- DVR: Enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause and rewind the live feed.
- Latency: Lower latency is useful when interacting with viewers, but YouTube notes that it can increase playback buffering. It is less important for a tour that does not involve live interaction.
- Start and stop behavior: YouTube provides encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls. Decide whether those fit the operating workflow and test them before the unattended run.
Test the installation and plan for outages
- Test the complete chain: installed camera, audio if used, encoder, stream key, internet connection, YouTube stream health, and watch page.
- Check from the viewer’s perspective: Watch on a separate device and confirm the framing, focus, exposure, audio, and playback are acceptable.
- Test realistic activity: YouTube advises using audio and video movement similar to the planned program, rather than checking only a static image.
- Monitor the live stream: Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test and arrange a way to check the production during the all-day broadcast.
- Set a response plan: Assign an authorized person to respond to a lost feed or poor stream health. Size internet and power backup to the builder’s service and uptime target; YouTube’s platform guidance does not prescribe a site-specific backup.
Before filming, confirm permission to record the property and establish appropriate notice and camera framing for occupants, visitors, neighboring property, and private areas under the rules that apply to the site. YouTube’s technical setup guidance does not grant filming permission or settle those property-specific questions.
