You can keep a Hindi news playlist on YouTube Live from an Azure virtual machine by using an encoder that can repeat the playlist, connecting it to a YouTube Live event with that event’s stream URL and key, and monitoring both the encoder and YouTube’s stream health. Before you start, confirm you have retransmission rights for every video and that your channel is eligible to livestream. An Azure VM does not make a public video free to rebroadcast, and it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
Before you build the stream
Confirm the playlist is cleared for retransmission
Use videos you own or have explicit permission to retransmit. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the rights needed for both the live broadcast and archived content, including applicable music and other licensing rights. A news video being publicly viewable does not grant rebroadcast permission. The applicable rights depend on the source material, rights holder, territory, and license; confirm them for your particular playlist before scheduling a stream. This is a practical platform requirement, not a legal determination about any individual video.
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable livestreaming well before the planned broadcast. Confirm eligibility and activation in YouTube Studio rather than leaving this check until launch day.
Decide how you will handle an all-day archive
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. That does not establish that a longer uninterrupted stream will be archived in the same way. If an archive matters, plan a recording path you control or schedule shorter live events, each under 12 hours, and verify how transitions affect your channel and viewers before relying on them. Do not assume an all-day broadcast will produce a complete YouTube archive.

Set up the Azure VM and encoder
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming and lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. The exact OBS controls depend on the operating system and software version on your VM, so the steps below focus on the required workflow rather than asserting an unverified menu path or playlist feature. Choose an encoder or scheduler that can repeat your prepared playlist and recover after interruption; confirm those capabilities in its current documentation before launch.
- Choose the VM configuration for your workload. Select an Azure region and VM size appropriate for the encoder, operating system, video format, and desired output. There is no single VM size or hourly cost established for this use: performance and billing depend on your selections and runtime. If you encode on the VM, test that it can sustain the chosen output without dropped frames before the public stream.
- Prepare and check the playlist files. Make sure every item is rights-cleared, plays correctly, and has usable audio and video. Configure the selected software to repeat the playlist, and check the transition between items so silence, gaps, or unintended content do not appear. The software must be configured to keep playing after the final item; merely opening a collection of files is not proof that it will loop.
- Create the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the event and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s streaming destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or place it where other users can access it. Reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Set output using the event’s encoder guidance. Use the resolution and bitrate appropriate to your source and the recommendations shown for the event in YouTube’s encoder guidance. The available evidence does not establish one universal resolution, bitrate, or keyframe interval for every Hindi news playlist, source file, and VM, so do not copy a preset without checking that it matches your material and current YouTube guidance. If your encoder offers primary and backup bitrates, include both when planning network capacity.
- Check network capacity before going live. YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom above the combined primary and backup bitrates. Check the VM’s outbound capacity against that requirement; do not mistake the VM’s listed network capability for a measured, sustained stream test. Confirm the encoder preview and YouTube stream health before making the event public.
- Start privately or with a scheduled test, then monitor. Verify picture, audio, playlist order, and stream health in YouTube Studio before relying on the stream for viewers. Keep monitoring during the broadcast: a VM can remain available while the encoder stops or outbound connectivity fails. Rehearse encoder restart and any recording or archive path before the actual all-day stream.
Keep the broadcast running and recover cleanly
Monitor the encoder and YouTube separately
A healthy Azure VM is not the same as a healthy YouTube stream. Check that the encoder is still advancing through the playlist, that audio and video remain present, and that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream. YouTube recommends testing and continuous monitoring; plan who or what will notice a problem and how it will be acted on.

Plan for interruption and event changes
Before launch, rehearse restarting the encoder and re-establishing the connection to the event. Confirm what the encoder does after a process restart and whether it resumes the playlist or starts again; that behavior varies by software and configuration. If you divide the day into shorter events for archive handling, test the transition in advance. Do not rely on a long event being automatically archived as though it were under 12 hours.

- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the event is active, the encoder has the correct stream URL and key, and the VM can reach the service outbound. If the key may be wrong or exposed, verify or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The encoder connects but YouTube reports poor stream health: Check the encoder’s bitrate and output against the event guidance, then verify sustained outbound capacity. YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom is above the combined primary and backup bitrates, not merely above one of them.
- The stream is online but the playlist stops or repeats incorrectly: Inspect the scheduler’s repeat behavior and playlist order, then test the end-of-list transition and restart behavior. A connected stream does not prove the video source is still advancing.
- The VM is running but viewers see a stream interruption: Check the encoder process and outbound connection as well as Azure VM status. Restart the encoder or restore its network path, then confirm incoming video and audio in YouTube Studio before considering the issue resolved.
- The Azure bill continues after you stop the VM: Check whether the VM is stopped or deallocated. Azure’s stopped state can still incur compute charges; deallocation stops compute charges, but disks and other resources can continue to incur charges.
Estimate the Azure cost before leaving it on
There is no reliable total without the VM size, region, operating system, runtime, storage, and traffic assumptions. Budget for more than compute: storage, virtual networking, bandwidth, monitoring, and supporting resources may also contribute. Use the Azure pricing calculator for the configuration you select and set Cost Management budgets or alerts so you can spot spending changes. If the VM will be intentionally idle, deallocate it rather than assuming a stopped VM has stopped billing; deallocation does not stop charges for disks or every other attached resource.
