To stream a full day of prerecorded video on YouTube Live, create a YouTube live event, feed your playlist through an encoder, and set the video bitrate below the stable upload capacity of the connection sending it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. A 24-hour broadcast also needs its own archive plan: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What “compress” means for a YouTube Live broadcast
YouTube does not turn a regular uploaded video into a live event through a compression setting. In this context, compressing a full day of content means encoding and sending prerecorded playback continuously to YouTube Live. You can use a computer-based encoder or a cloud service designed for prerecorded streams.
Compression affects the outgoing stream’s data rate and visual quality; it does not make a 24-hour broadcast shorter. Pick settings based on the source and the connection’s measured upload capacity, not just the source file’s size.

Computer-based encoder
A computer can play an ordered set of clips and send the resulting feed to YouTube through an encoder. YouTube’s encoder guidance names Wirecast as a software example. This route gives you control over playback and local recording, but the computer, power, network connection, and playback software must keep working for the broadcast to continue.

Before committing to a full day, check that your chosen player or encoder can run the sequence continuously, handle clip transitions without unintended gaps, and recover appropriately after a disconnect or restart. The exact looping procedure and recovery behavior depend on the software; YouTube does not guarantee a universal looping setup.
Cloud service for prerecorded streams
YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. Compare any service against your actual needs: playlist handling, reconnect behavior, monitoring, local recording options, stream-key handling, price, and availability in India. A listing by YouTube establishes it as an option, not that it is best for every creator.
Set up the YouTube event and encoder
- Confirm eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The platform also states that a person must be at least 16 to livestream. Enable live streaming ahead of time; initial enablement can take up to 24 hours. - Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream, enter its title and other details, and choose visibility and scheduling appropriate to your broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s ingest settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your event. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load the program. Arrange your prerecorded clips in the intended order and make sure the encoder is sending the playback output, not an idle desktop or unrelated source. Check transitions and audio at several joins.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder early enough to inspect the Live Control Room preview, confirm that picture and sound are correct, and verify that the intended event is reachable before starting the public broadcast.
Choose bitrate and video settings from your real connection
YouTube says the total bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Test upload speed on the same network and at the location and time you expect to stream. Download speed does not tell you how much data you can reliably send. If you send primary and backup streams at once, include both in the total bitrate calculation. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

This is an arithmetic illustration, not a recommended India-wide connection speed or a guarantee that an unstable connection will hold that rate. Use YouTube’s encoder guidance as a starting point, then match resolution and bitrate to your source and tested connection. Its general recommendations include H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding (CBR); a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds; and RTMPS ingest. For ordinary SDR material, YouTube lists Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. Check that both the encoder and source support your selected options. YouTube transcodes live streams for different viewing formats. Full recommendations are in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Do not select HDR without a reason tied to the source and viewing target: YouTube’s HDR workflow has additional source and encoder requirements. A standard SDR stream is simpler when HDR is not needed.
Run a preflight for the entire chain
YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. Use that time to check the feed and the broadcast destination rather than waiting until the scheduled start.

- Review the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and the correct event.
- Listen for clipped, missing, or unexpectedly quiet audio; check both speech and music if both occur in the program.
- Test moving video and audio similar to the planned content, not only a static opening frame.
- Check clip joins and the end-to-start transition if the playlist is intended to repeat.
- Confirm stable power, network access, and enough free disk space if recording locally.
- Verify that any local archive file is present and growing.
- Confirm the event is reachable from the channel and watch pages, including on a mobile device.
- Know what you will do if the connection, computer, or encoder stops. A test cannot establish that an encoder will recover from every failure.

Plan for the 24-hour archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Because a full-day broadcast is longer than that stated threshold, do not rely on YouTube to preserve it as one complete replay. The archive guidance is at Archive live streams.
If keeping the whole event matters, make a separate local recording and verify during the broadcast that it is intact and growing. An external SSD is one possible place to store a local copy, but it is not a streaming requirement; calculate expected storage from the actual recording format and duration before choosing capacity. Another option is to schedule shorter broadcasts, while accounting for the interruption and event-management work between them.
Clear rights and follow platform rules
You are responsible for having the necessary rights for the live and archived material, including music, and for complying with laws and regulations applicable to the stream territory. Review every video, image, track, and other element in the program for permission to use it in a live broadcast and any resulting archive. YouTube’s terms place those responsibilities on the content provider; they are not India-specific legal advice. Troubleshoot common failures
The stream buffers, drops frames, or disconnects
First check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate against current upload performance. Reduce bitrate or resolution if needed to restore the recommended headroom, and check whether other devices or uploads are consuming the connection. If the problem continues, test the actual streaming network again; a speed result from a different time or location may not represent broadcast conditions.
The video or audio is missing in the preview
Confirm that the encoder is using the intended playback source and that the playlist is actually playing. Check the selected audio input and output routing, then inspect the preview before going live. A muted source, wrong scene, or clip with no audio can look like a YouTube problem when the error is upstream.
The stream does not connect
Recheck the stream URL and key copied from the correct YouTube event, and confirm that the encoder is configured for the intended ingest protocol. If the stream key may have been exposed or changed, refresh it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. Keep the key private.

A 24-hour stream exceeds YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive window, and streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use the separate local recording plan rather than treating the YouTube replay as the only copy.

The playlist stops or has gaps between clips
Check the playback software’s sequence and repeat settings, and test transitions before the event. Confirm behavior after a playback restart or network interruption; looping and recovery are specific to the player, encoder, or service you choose.
