Test the stream privately or as unlisted before making it public. OBS can repeat the recording, but the broadcast still depends on your computer, power, internet connection and monitoring.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check your channel’s eligibility in YouTube Live Control Room; eligibility can vary by account. YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Install OBS on Windows, macOS or Linux and have the Hindi yoga nidra recording available locally. OBS Media Source supports common audio and video formats, including MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV, MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. OBS Media Sources.
- Use a recording and any accompanying visuals, music or images only if you have the necessary rights to stream them.
- For a long broadcast, plan how you will monitor the stream and preserve a local copy. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive.
Set up the recording in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene, or select an existing scene you want to use for the broadcast.
- Add the recording. In the Sources panel, choose + → Media Source. Name the source, select the local recording file and confirm. For an audio-only recording, include an intentional visual—such as a still image you have the right to use—rather than inadvertently presenting a blank screen.
- Enable looping. Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. OBS will replay the file when playback reaches the end. Leave the source in the active scene. Restart playback when source becomes active is a separate setting: it controls whether playback restarts when the source becomes visible, not whether the file loops continuously.
- Check the audio. Look for the source in the Audio Mixer and play the recording; its meter should move. If it does not, check the source’s audio settings and open Settings → Audio to select the intended devices. OBS’s setup guidance explains audio-device selection: OBS Quick Start Guide.
Create a YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live to reach Live Control Room, then create or schedule a stream using an encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- In the stream’s settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details. Depending on the OBS and YouTube setup, you may be able to connect an account or enter the URL and key manually.
- Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not publish or share it. YouTube explains stream keys and encoder settings at its encoder setup guide.
Choose output settings and test the stream
There is no single best output setting for every computer and internet connection. Choose a resolution and frame rate your system can encode and your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264, H.265 or AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Its H.264 recommendations include:
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations for the listed formats, not proof that your connection can sustain the bitrate. Check the current table and other format combinations at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Test at the resolution and frame rate you intend to use, with representative audio and video; YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- In OBS, select Start Streaming.
- Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the picture, listen for the recording and review stream health before publishing.
- Run a short private or unlisted test. Confirm that playback reaches the end and starts again, and that sound remains audible across the loop. OBS recommends a test before a first broadcast; see the OBS Quick Start Guide.
- When the test is satisfactory, set the audience and visibility you want in YouTube Studio and start the public broadcast.
Plan for long broadcasts and keep a local backup
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not treat the YouTube archive as the only copy of a long yoga nidra broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

OBS can record while it streams. Configure a recording path under Settings → Output → Recording and check that the destination has enough free space for the planned duration and quality. OBS recommends MKV: if OBS or the computer stops ungracefully, an MKV recording is less likely to lose the entire file than some other recording formats. Verify your recording settings and available disk capacity before a long session. OBS recording formats.
A locally recorded backup uses storage and still depends on the computer running. An external drive can be a destination, but choose capacity based on the recording’s actual bitrate and duration; there is no universal capacity that fits every stream.

Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Confirm that you have the rights needed for the narration, music, images and video in the recording. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. For licensed third-party material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s guidance is in Copyright issues with live streams; its Terms of Service make the provider responsible for securing necessary rights.
Common problems and fixes
- The recording stops instead of repeating: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is checked. The source must remain in the active scene.
- The stream has no sound: Check that the Media Source is present in the Audio Mixer, its meter responds during playback, and the correct audio devices are selected under Settings → Audio.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Confirm OBS is using the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key. Check Live Control Room for the stream’s status, and replace a key in OBS if you have reset it in YouTube Studio.
- The picture or audio stutters, or stream health degrades: Lower the output resolution or frame rate, or use a bitrate appropriate to the chosen format and reliable upload bandwidth. Test again under conditions similar to the planned broadcast rather than assuming a published recommendation will work on your connection.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Review the recording’s narration, music and visuals for material you are not authorized to stream. If you have a license, check with the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting.
- The YouTube archive is missing after a very long stream: YouTube warns that broadcasts over 12 hours may not be captured. Use the local OBS recording as your backup, and check that it is saving to a drive with sufficient capacity.
- The broadcast stops when you shut down or lose connection: This OBS setup runs on your local computer and depends on its power, software and network connection. Keep the computer running and monitor it, or use a cloud option if you need the stream to continue without a home computer.
