To keep a recorded Easter service playing on YouTube, send the video to YouTube Live through a streaming encoder or a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. Before going live, enable live streaming on the church’s verified channel, confirm rights for everything in the recording, test the stream in YouTube Studio, and arrange a separate local recording: YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says a channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance explains the requirements.
- A recording of the service and an encoder or streaming service that can send it to YouTube Live. Check that the chosen setup can loop the recording for the intended duration, recover if the connection drops, and be monitored.
- Enough upload capacity for the stream’s total bitrate, plus headroom. YouTube recommends capacity at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. YouTube’s streaming tips cover network and setup checks.
- Permission to broadcast the service recording, music, performances, and other third-party material to a worldwide audience.
- A plan for a separate local archive if you need a copy of the full broadcast.
Set up the church’s YouTube channel and stream
- Enable live streaming early. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and follow the prompts to enable live streaming. Complete channel verification if requested. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or select the stream in Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, go to Create → Go live, then create or select the stream for the broadcast. YouTube creates the watch page as the encoder begins sending the stream.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Use the URL and key shown in Live Control Room in the matching fields in the encoder or streaming application. Treat the key like a password: do not post it, share it publicly, or include it in a screen capture.
- Load the service recording and set up looping. Choose the recorded video as the encoder’s input and configure repeat or playlist playback for the planned broadcast. The exact control depends on the encoder; verify the behavior before relying on an unattended run.
- Start sending the feed and check the preview. Begin the encoder output, then confirm in Live Control Room that the correct video and audio appear. Check the public watch page from a separate device, including a phone, before announcing the link.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch for audio problems, frozen or degraded video, dropped connections, and encoder alerts. Confirm that any local recording is being written and that its file continues to grow.
Choose an encoder for a continuous service
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Software may be sufficient for a straightforward prerecorded service; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Its encoder guidance lists products including CamStreamer and describes it as supporting 24/7 continuous streams, but that product capability is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation for a particular church setup. Compare options on verified YouTube compatibility, repeat playback, recovery after interruption, local recording, and how the operator will monitor the stream. Plan the archive separately from the live stream
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. If the broadcast must run continuously beyond that threshold, do not treat the YouTube replay as your only copy: record locally and check during the broadcast that the recording is actually being saved.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. YouTube also warns that even having a license may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Before broadcasting, confirm permission for the recorded service, music, performers, and any other third-party material; where appropriate, ask rights holders about allowlisting the church’s channel. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams describes these checks.

YouTube’s live-stream terms require the person providing the content to have the necessary rights for worldwide use, including music licensing rights. The available official guidance does not establish specific India-only music, broadcast, or religious-service requirements, or whether a particular church recording is cleared. Confirm the rules and permissions that apply to your own content and location rather than assuming a recording is cleared because it was used in an in-person service. YouTube’s terms set out the provider’s rights obligations.
Keep the stream stable
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. Count the stream’s full bitrate, not just its video setting.
- Test the full path in advance. Check the encoder output, Live Control Room preview, public watch page, and playback on mobile before the service is promoted.
- Monitor both picture and sound. A healthy encoder indicator does not establish that viewers are receiving intelligible audio and the intended video.
- Plan for interruptions. Confirm whether the selected encoder or service resumes automatically after a dropped connection, and decide who will respond to alerts. No setup checks guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Protect the stream key. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.

Troubleshooting common problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: verify the channel, check for a live-stream restriction, and allow up to 24 hours after first-time activation.
- Live Control Room shows no incoming video: confirm the encoder is sending to the current stream URL and that the copied key is correct. Keep the key private; replace it if it may have been exposed.
- The preview is choppy or the stream drops: compare upload capacity with the total bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check the network and encoder, then confirm the recovery behavior of the chosen setup.
- The stream is live but the recording does not appear in the archive: if it ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube may not have captured it. Use the local recording as the archive and verify it is being saved during the broadcast.
- The stream shows a placeholder or stops after copyrighted material appears: review YouTube’s copyright notice and contact the relevant rights holder. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted through Content ID.
- Viewers report missing or unclear sound: check the audio at the Live Control Room preview and on the public watch page from another device; do not rely only on the encoder’s status display.
