You can run a 24/7 YouTube playlist from a VPS by having a server continuously play your media and send it to YouTube Live through an encoder. But the ₹500 monthly budget is not verified: the official India VPS price example available here is above that ceiling, and a low advertised starting price does not confirm India availability or the full cost. Treat the budget as a constraint to verify, not a guaranteed deal.

How the VPS-to-YouTube setup works

The pipeline is playlist media → encoder running on a VPS → YouTube Live. The VPS stays on, reads the media, and sends a continuous audio/video feed to YouTube using the stream’s ingest details. A static playlist file uploaded to YouTube does not itself create a live broadcast.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes separate broadcast and stream resources, including a 24/7 broadcast pattern in which the video feed continues. That does not mean every channel can keep one event live indefinitely, or that YouTube guarantees uninterrupted service. For a non-programmatic setup, YouTube Studio is the more direct route to create and configure a live event; the API is relevant if you are automating broadcast management. Google’s broadcast lifecycle documentation explains the relationship between these resources.

Check channel eligibility first

Before configuring a server, confirm the channel can livestream. YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and have no livestream restrictions during the preceding 90 days; its live-stream start guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. These requirements were listed on YouTube Help pages accessed in 2026, and YouTube’s current account notices should be checked before setup. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and start guidance.

Choose an ingest method and encoder settings

Use RTMPS for the ordinary encoder workflow

For a typical single encoder sending a live feed, RTMPS is the straightforward default. Google describes it as suitable for most ordinary user content, especially when low latency matters, and documents an RTMPS ingest endpoint on port 443. Use the server URL and stream key shown for your YouTube stream; keep the key secret, since anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to that stream. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

Set bitrate for the chosen output

Use YouTube’s published encoder recommendations for the resolution and frame rate you select, then ensure the VPS has stable outbound capacity above the video bitrate, with room for audio and network variation. YouTube’s settings table, accessed in 2026, recommends 2 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps and gives 6 Mbps as the maximum video bitrate for that row. These are YouTube recommendations, not a universal minimum or a guarantee that a particular VPS route will be stable. Check the current table for other resolutions and frame rates rather than extrapolating from this example. YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Test the encoder and upload capacity before publishing. YouTube recommends testing, checking the preview, and monitoring stream health; a VPS’s advertised network port capacity alone does not prove sustained encoding performance or a good route to YouTube. YouTube’s livestreaming tips.

HLS is a different, more involved ingest path

HLS is not simply RTMPS with another URL. Google’s HLS integration documentation requires HTTPS, muxed audio and video, correctly formatted media segments and playlists, and a rolling list with no more than five outstanding segments. It specifies segment durations between one and four seconds. Those constraints are HLS-specific and should not be applied to an RTMPS encoder workflow. The HLS guide is written for encoder integrations, so it is not the easiest starting point for most individual VPS setups. Google’s HLS ingestion documentation.

Set up the broadcast on YouTube and the VPS

  1. Confirm eligibility. Verify that the channel can livestream and is not restricted before building the server workflow.
  2. Create the YouTube live event and stream. In YouTube Studio, configure the event and obtain the stream’s ingest details. Keep the stream key private. The API route uses separate broadcast and stream resources; do not assume a single event can be reused forever or left live without regard to broadcast status.
  3. Prepare the VPS media and encoder. Place the source video or playlist where the encoder can read it continuously. Configure the encoder to loop or advance through the media and send the selected resolution, frame rate, audio and bitrate to YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint. The particular VPS commands, playlist syntax, service manager configuration and restart policy depend on the software and operating system; they are not specified here as a tested recipe.
  4. Check capacity and preview. Confirm that the server can encode the chosen output and sustain outbound traffic, then start a test feed and inspect YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before making the event public.
  5. Plan supervision and recovery. A genuinely unattended broadcast needs a way to detect and restart a failed encoder process, plus a way to notice YouTube-side interruptions. A VPS running the encoder continuously is not by itself a recovery plan. Monitor stream health and verify how your chosen process supervisor behaves after a crash or server reboot.

Can a VPS in India meet the ₹500 monthly budget?

No qualifying plan at or below ₹500 per month has been established. The official Contabo India page lists Cloud VPS 4 at $8.28 per month including VAT on a 24-month term, with 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 100 GB SSD; the provider describes its India data center as Mumbai. That listed price is above the requested rupee ceiling at ordinary current conversion, but no exchange-rate conversion is asserted here. Contabo’s India VPS pricing page.

DigitalOcean advertises shared CPU VPS plans starting at $4 per month, but that page does not establish that the starting plan is available in an India region or what the final bill would be for an Indian customer. It therefore cannot be treated as a confirmed under-budget India option. DigitalOcean’s Droplet pricing page.

  • The server region is actually in India, if that is a requirement.
  • The recurring price after any introductory term, plus applicable taxes and the renewal term.
  • Included outbound bandwidth, fair-use limits and any policy affecting sustained uploads.
  • CPU performance sufficient for the selected encoder and resolution, as well as enough memory and disk for the media.
  • Support, recovery and uptime terms relevant to a stream that is intended to run continuously.

Provider prices, regions and usage terms can change. A low headline price is not enough to show that a 24/7 stream fits the full budget after renewal, taxes, bandwidth and storage.
