You can run a 24/7 lo-fi YouTube channel by sending a prerecorded music-and-visual program to a YouTube Live broadcast through an encoder. For a do-it-yourself setup, OBS plays and repeats the prepared program from a computer that must stay on and connected. Alternatively, cloud playout runs the loop remotely. Before launching, enable live streaming, verify music and visual rights, test the broadcast, and account for YouTube’s originality rules if you plan to monetize.
How prerecorded video becomes a 24/7 YouTube livestream
YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder. In this setup, the encoder plays your prepared lo-fi program—music with its accompanying visuals—and sends it to YouTube as a live stream. Viewers watch the resulting broadcast, not a file being uploaded as an ordinary video. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the incoming stream from the broadcast viewers see: YouTube Live Streaming API: LiveStreams.
The program can be a single long video or a playlist that repeats. The essential operational requirement is continuity: the encoder and its connection must keep sending the feed. A local computer gives you direct control but must remain available; cloud playout moves the playback operation to a hosted service.

Choose where the loop will run
| Approach | Where playback and encoding run | Main convenience | Main dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — #1 cloud option | StreamNeo’s cloud, sending your uploaded prerecorded video to YouTube | Always on from the cloud; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; first day free | The service and its YouTube connection must remain available |
| Local computer and encoder | A computer you maintain, running software such as OBS | Direct control and possible use of equipment you already own | The computer and its internet connection must remain available |
| Other cloud playout | A hosted service | Avoids maintaining a dedicated streaming computer | The chosen service and its YouTube connection must remain available; provider pricing and reliability are not established here |
The local method below explains how to build the stream yourself. If avoiding an always-on home computer matters more than managing the encoder locally, see StreamNeo after the setup instructions.

Prepare the lo-fi program and confirm rights
Assemble a continuous, suitable program
Prepare the video or playlist you intend to loop. Check that the audio and visuals transition cleanly at loop boundaries, and that the playback does not contain unintended gaps, abrupt level changes, or a frozen visual. If you use a playlist, verify that every item is included and in the intended order. Keep a record of the tracks and visual elements in the program.
Clear music and visual use for livestreaming
Confirm that you have the rights needed for every music track and visual element, including live streaming on YouTube, the territories covered, and any monetized use you intend. A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and says a stream can be interrupted if the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist, even when the content is licensed. Ask the relevant label, distributor, or rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams and YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels.

Enable YouTube Live before the launch
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires a verified channel to livestream.
- Check for restrictions. The channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Enable the feature early. YouTube for Artists advises enabling streaming at least 24 hours before your planned first broadcast. Do not leave activation until launch time.
Set up a continuous stream with OBS
OBS is a local encoder option: it captures the prepared program and sends the output to your YouTube Live broadcast. OBS’s official Help Portal recommends the Auto Configuration Wizard for initial settings and links to guidance on stream quality and connection troubleshooting. Exact settings depend on the media, connection, and YouTube’s current guidance; the available sources do not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting that is right for every lo-fi stream.
- Run OBS on the computer that will host the stream. Use the Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then test playback and connection quality rather than assuming the initial configuration is suitable for an unattended, continuous stream.
- Prepare the loop in OBS. Add the prerecorded video or playlist as the program source and configure playback to repeat. Confirm that both the audio and visual program continue through the loop and that the intended source is active.
- Create a live broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Select the broadcast you intend to use, then retrieve its stream key and ingestion details.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Enter the broadcast’s stream key and ingestion details in the encoder’s streaming configuration. YouTube documents RTMPS—RTMP carried through an SSL connection—as an ingestion option: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS. Use a protocol supported by your encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not publish it or include it in a screenshot, public post, or shared configuration. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls before relying on the broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room. Confirm YouTube receives the feed and that the selected broadcast is the one you mean to launch. Check the program’s audio and picture at the viewer end as well as the encoder’s connection status.
Test before making the channel public
Run an unlisted test stream before the public launch, especially if you have invested in the broadcast. YouTube for Artists recommends testing in advance. Watch long enough to check that the loop continues, audio and visuals remain synchronized, and OBS stays connected. Confirm that the broadcast selected in the Live Control Room matches the one you intend viewers to watch. Keep an eye out for copyright notices or interruptions; a successful first playback does not establish that every track has been cleared.

Run and monitor the channel
- Check the encoder and YouTube Studio for a dropped connection, stream interruption, or copyright warning.
- Review the loop from the viewer’s perspective, not only inside OBS. Check that playback has not stalled and that audio remains audible and consistent.
- Have a recovery plan for the machine or connection if you run locally. A local stream depends on the computer and its internet access staying available.
- If you expect viewers to watch a replay, verify the current YouTube archive behavior for your broadcast length before promising a complete recording. YouTube documents that completed broadcasts can be converted to videos, but the available documentation does not settle archive availability for a single continuous stream longer than 12 hours. See the LiveStreams API documentation and YouTube’s copyright and live-stream guidance.
Understand copyright and monetization separately
Permission to use music and visuals is necessary, but it is not the same as meeting YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube says its channel monetization rules apply to livestreams and require original, authentic content. Repetitive or mass-produced programming may be ineligible, so a continuously looping channel should not assume that rights clearance or 24/7 operation qualifies it for the YouTube Partner Program. Read YouTube channel monetization policies.
Eligible channels may have access to ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships where available, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. YouTube reported that creators choosing automatic live mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour across 207 countries in January 2024. That is YouTube’s reported comparison for that period, not a forecast or guarantee for an individual channel. Details: YouTube: Monetize your live stream.

The encoder does not connect
Confirm the stream key and ingestion details belong to the selected broadcast, and that the encoder is configured to use a supported protocol. Keep the key private. Use OBS’s official Help Portal for connection and stream-quality troubleshooting.
The stream starts but stops or becomes unstable
Check whether the computer or internet connection has interrupted if you are encoding locally. Verify that OBS remains connected and review YouTube Studio for a platform notice or interruption. Run an unlisted test again after changing the setup, and use the OBS Help Portal’s stream-quality and connection guidance.
The music triggers a warning or interruption
Review the affected material and rights documentation. If you licensed a third-party track, ask the owner or distributor to confirm whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting. YouTube says a licensed track can still interrupt a live stream when the channel is not allowlisted.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe loop has a gap, silent section, or frozen picture
Check the source file or playlist order and verify repeat behavior in the encoder. Test transitions through the end and beginning of the program, then monitor the viewer-facing broadcast to distinguish a source problem from a connection problem.
Cost and equipment considerations
A local OBS setup uses a computer you maintain and an internet connection capable of sustaining the stream. The sources here do not establish a minimum computer specification or a comparative cost, price, or reliability for cloud providers. If you already own a suitable computer, local operation gives direct control; if avoiding a dedicated always-on machine is the priority, cloud playout removes that particular home-computer dependency. Compare the cost of equipment and ongoing operation with the service plan you are considering rather than assuming either approach is cheaper.
