You can use a spare PC as the encoder for a continuous YouTube relaxation stream: make the channel eligible for livestreaming, create an encoder stream in YouTube Live Control Room, connect the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, and test the feed before going public. The important catch is that “24/7 live” does not mean YouTube will preserve a complete 24-hour replay: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Decide whether you need a continuous stream, a replay, or both
A single always-on broadcast can keep the channel live, but YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, consider dividing the programme into sessions shorter than 12 hours and check the current archive controls in YouTube Studio. Alternatively, record the programme locally; allow for disk space and verify the recording before relying on it.
Plan the live schedule and the archive as separate requirements. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24-hour stream will produce a complete 24-hour video on demand.

Check channel eligibility and prepare the stream in YouTube
YouTube’s encoder livestream eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s status before configuring the spare PC.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Choose the encoder streaming option and create or schedule the stream. Set its title, description, audience, and visibility; use private or unlisted visibility for an initial test.
- In the stream settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- In your encoder software on the spare PC, select YouTube/RTMPS if offered, then enter the stream URL and key. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder connections.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview and stream-health indicators in Live Control Room. Confirm the correct video and audio appear before making the stream public.
Labels and controls in YouTube Studio can change. Follow the current Live Control Room prompts if the exact menu wording differs.
Choose settings the PC and upload connection can sustain
There is no universal best resolution for an unspecified PC and internet plan. Pick a resolution and frame rate supported by the computer’s encoder and the actual upload capacity available during the hours you intend to stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; use the current YouTube settings page for its bitrate recommendations for your selected resolution and frame rate.
- Measure upload, not just download: the stream sends data upstream. Test the connection under realistic conditions, including when other devices are using the network.
- Leave headroom: the stream’s total bitrate must fit within the upload capacity that remains stable in practice. A connection that only barely supports the selected bitrate can cause buffering or dropped frames.
- Test representative material: run an unlisted or private test using the actual relaxation video and audio. Check the preview, audio level, stream health, dropped frames, and encoder load.
- Reduce settings if needed: if the PC is overloaded or the connection is unstable, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate, then test again.
Keep a wired network connection where practical for stability, but Ethernet does not fix an unreliable ISP connection or insufficient upload capacity.

Keep the spare PC running safely
Configure the computer for the intended streaming schedule before going live. Disable sleep and hibernation for that period, ensure the encoder starts again after an unexpected restart if the software supports it, and monitor system temperature, encoder status, and network reliability. Check that the PC has enough free storage if you are also making a local recording.
A UPS for the PC and router is optional protection against brief power interruptions. Size it for the combined load and the runtime you need. It cannot guarantee uninterrupted streaming during a long outage, and it will not solve an ISP outage unless the network equipment and upstream service remain available.
Estimate electricity costs using your own load and tariff
There is no reliable single electricity-cost figure for every Indian setup: the PC’s power draw, state, utility, tariff category, and applicable charges all matter. Measure the computer’s actual consumption over a representative period, then use the tariff and charges on your bill or from your distribution utility to estimate the cost of leaving it on. The Ministry of Power notes that supply and distribution are within the purview of state governments and distribution utilities; the Central Electricity Authority publishes state tariff and duty material.

Use original or properly licensed ambience recordings, music, sound effects, footage, animation, and artwork. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the applicable rights, including music licensing rights. A publicly available track or an attribution line does not by itself grant permission to livestream or archive it. Check that your licence covers the intended use, territory, duration, livestream, replay, and—if relevant—monetization.
Having permission to use material and qualifying for monetization are separate questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams; repetitive or mass-produced material may be considered inauthentic, and reused content is assessed separately. A looped relaxation stream is not automatically eligible for monetization, and no earnings or acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program should be assumed.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
