You can send a pranayama breathing guide from a laptop to YouTube Live using an encoder connected to a stream you create in YouTube Studio. Set up the video and audio, test the feed at your intended quality, and monitor it while live. A laptop setup is not automatically reliable for unattended 24/7 streaming: power, sleep settings, the encoder, and the internet connection can all interrupt it.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s current help page also says streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance for current requirements.

An encoder is a practical choice when you want to control audio and video sources or use pre-produced material. A webcam workflow is simpler for a direct camera event, but offers less control over composed or pre-produced media. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes support for audio hardware such as microphones; a USB microphone is optional if the laptop’s built-in audio is not clear enough, not a requirement.
How do I live stream on YouTube from my laptop?
1. Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a live stream or schedule one. Set its title, description, and privacy setting for your intended audience.
- Choose the encoder workflow and locate the stream key shown for the event.
Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the platform workflow; exact menus and labels in the encoder depend on the software you choose.

2. Configure the encoder and select sources
- In the encoder’s YouTube destination or streaming settings, enter the stream key. Do not share it in a public description, recording, or screenshot.
- Select the intended video source. Use a stable, uncluttered visual that remains appropriate throughout the guide.
- Select the intended audio input and check its meter or monitoring output. Make sure the spoken instructions are intelligible and that music or other audio does not overpower them.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, and compatible encoder settings that your connection can sustain. If the connection is constrained, reduce resolution or frame rate rather than relying on an unstable high-quality feed.
3. Match bitrate to the connection
Bitrate recommendations vary with resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube’s current live encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists these example recommended H.264 values: 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection can sustain them. YouTube’s page includes different ranges for AV1 and H.265; consult its full current table if you use either codec.

Compare the selected setting with stable upload capacity, not just a brief peak speed. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate before an event. Its live-streaming tips also recommend testing with audio and video similar to the actual broadcast. YouTube transcodes live streams for playback across devices and networks, but that does not remove the need for a stable incoming feed.
4. Preview, start, and check the public stream
- Start sending the encoder feed and wait for it to appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview, audio, and stream-health messages before starting the event publicly. Follow the start sequence shown for your selected YouTube workflow; some workflows require starting the event in Studio as well as the encoder.
- Once live, open the watch page on another device and confirm that viewers can see and hear the guide as intended.
- Keep an eye on stream health and audio/video quality while the event is running. YouTube’s encoder tips recommend continuous monitoring during a live event.
Can I stream 24/7 on YouTube from a laptop?
A laptop can send a live stream for as long as its hardware, encoder, connection, and power remain available, but YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee unattended 24/7 operation for an arbitrary laptop. A brief test cannot establish that a setup will remain uninterrupted day and night. Treat a laptop stream as something to monitor, and plan for interruptions rather than promising continuous availability.

- Connect the laptop to reliable power and check that its operating-system sleep settings will not suspend the computer during the stream.
- Use a stable network connection and monitor the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator.
- Consider what you will do if the laptop, encoder, router, or power supply stops working. YouTube’s encoder tips support monitoring, but do not promise automatic recovery for a laptop setup.
How do I loop a video on YouTube Live?
This workflow explains how to send an encoder feed to YouTube Live; it does not establish a universal looping method or guarantee that a particular encoder can repeat a video indefinitely. If your chosen encoder offers a repeat or loop control, check its documentation and test the transition back to the start before using it in a live event. Confirm that both video and audio restart cleanly and that the feed remains visible in YouTube Studio. Do not assume that a standard YouTube Live event will loop uploaded video by itself.

What do I need to livestream on YouTube?
