You can run a 24/7 kids’ channel as a YouTube livestream using an encoder such as OBS or a hosted prerecorded-stream service. There is no YouTube-published number of hours or days that makes replaying the same video “safe” for monetization. Build a varied schedule with enough distinct, rights-cleared material to give viewers real value, set the audience honestly, and keep a local recording: streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube.
Choose how to keep the stream running
For a programmed channel built from prerecorded videos, there are two practical routes: operate an encoder yourself or use a hosted service that schedules prerecorded streams. Neither route guarantees uninterrupted streaming; plan how you will respond if the computer, connection, or service fails.

Prepare the channel and schedule
Check live-stream access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to go live; an encoder is a useful fit for a scheduled prerecorded program. Its current Help page also states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Set the audience accurately
Create the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room and select the audience based on the actual content and intended audience. Do not choose a setting to preserve features: YouTube warns creators not to rely on automated classification to decide whether content is made for kids. Build a varied program, not just a longer loop
Use a playlist or schedule with enough distinct material and meaningful variation to make the channel useful to children and families. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams and disallows monetized content that is mass-produced or repetitive. It says substance should be materially varied and deliver creative, educational, or other value. The policy does not give a minimum catalog size, maximum replay count, or safe interval between repetitions, so do not treat any specific hourly or daily interval as a guarantee. YouTube says it clarified on July 15, 2025 that repetitive or mass-produced content falls under its renamed “inauthentic content” policy. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies.

Clear rights for every part of the program
Confirm you have the rights needed to rebroadcast every video, image, soundtrack, and other audiovisual element, including music. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for necessary rights on the content provider and require rights for worldwide exploitation. Rights should cover the actual material and territories in which the stream is available. See YouTube Terms of Service.
Set up and start the livestream
- Prepare the playlist. Arrange the videos in the intended order and confirm each file plays correctly. Avoid relying on a short loop as the entire schedule; variation matters to viewers and to monetization review.
- Create the stream in Live Control Room. Set its title, description, visibility, and audience. Review the audience setting before going live; automated classification is not a substitute for your decision.
- Connect the encoder or hosted service. For OBS, follow its YouTube connection guide and link it with Live Control Room. For a hosted service, follow that provider’s current instructions and verify that the chosen plan supports the schedule you need.
- Check the stream before relying on it. Confirm that video and audio are present, the intended playlist is running, and the broadcast appears correctly in YouTube. Check the stream periodically and have a recovery plan for a dropped connection or service interruption.
- Keep a separate recording. Record locally if you need an archive or source copy. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. See Archive live streams.
What “not repeating too often” means for monetization
There is no published YouTube rule that says a video may be repeated only after a particular number of hours or days. A longer playlist can reduce obvious repetition, but length alone does not make repetitive programming original. Consider whether the overall stream offers a genuinely varied experience, and whether the videos contribute distinct creative, educational, or other value. A schedule that simply replays the same small set of clips should not be presented as guaranteed safe for monetization.

Made-for-kids settings and feature changes
If the livestream is made for kids, mark it accordingly. YouTube restricts features on made-for-kids content, including live chat, comments, the notification bell, and personalized ads. Do not mislabel the audience to keep those features or advertising; choose the setting that reflects the content and intended audience. Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a livestream: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction applies from the preceding 90 days. Review the eligibility guidance in YouTube Help.
- The stream stops when you leave: An encoder running on your computer depends on that computer and its internet connection. Keep the machine and connection available for the broadcast, or choose a hosted prerecorded-stream workflow.
- YouTube does not save the full livestream: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Retain a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s archive.
- Monetization is denied or removed: YouTube provides no safe repeat interval. Review whether the program is mass-produced or repetitive and whether its substance is materially varied and valuable; do not assume a larger playlist alone resolves the issue.
- Chat or personalized ads are unavailable: These are among the features restricted on made-for-kids content. Check the audience setting for accuracy rather than changing it to obtain features.
- A video or song is claimed or blocked: Recheck that your rights cover the full audiovisual work, including music, the livestream use, and relevant territories. You are responsible for securing the necessary rights.
