Yes—you can run a continuous YouTube stream from a DigitalOcean Droplet in its Bangalore region, but the VPS is only the server: you still need an encoder or relay, enough outbound transfer, monitoring, and the rights to every animation and audio track. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. No official source certifies a particular Droplet size or guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting, so test the actual workload before relying on it.
What you need before setting up the stream
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it early. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and setup guidance.
- A DigitalOcean Droplet in Bangalore, if that region is available for the plan you select. DigitalOcean describes Droplets as Linux virtual machines; check the account’s region and plan selector rather than assuming a particular SKU is available. See DigitalOcean’s regional availability information.
- A playlist of animation files and a decision about whether the VPS will encode them or relay an already encoded feed.
- A stream event in YouTube Live Control Room and its stream URL and key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots, scripts shared with others, or logs.
- Permission to stream the animation and music, plus a plan for monitoring and—if needed—preserving a replay.
Choose whether the VPS encodes or relays the playlist
Encode on the Droplet
An encoder running on the VPS reads the playlist and creates the outgoing YouTube-compatible stream. This gives you control over the output settings, but makes CPU and memory demand part of the workload. Animation with rapid motion, scaling, or other processing can make encoding more demanding than simply sending an already prepared stream.
Relay an already encoded feed
A relay forwards an encoded stream rather than creating a new video encode. This can reduce the encoding work on the Droplet, but the feed must already be available in a format and transport the relay can handle. Check the full route from playlist source to YouTube, including reconnect behavior and whether the feed can actually loop continuously.

Configure YouTube Live and the encoder output
- Enable live streaming early. Confirm channel eligibility and activate live streaming in YouTube. Initial activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
- Create the event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create the stream or event and obtain the server URL and stream key. Enter them in your encoder or relay configuration, keeping the key private.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube currently recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection between the encoder and Google. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for ordinary SDR streams. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Set CBR and keyframes. Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
- Choose resolution and bitrate together. For 720p at 30 frames per second, YouTube recommends a 6 Mbps H.264 video bitrate. This is video bitrate only; add audio bitrate and allow for transport overhead when estimating bandwidth. Higher resolutions or frame rates require checking YouTube’s current recommendations for that format rather than reusing the 720p figure.
- Check the incoming stream before public viewing. Confirm that YouTube receives stable video and audio and that the event page and player behave as expected. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into delivery formats for viewers; the encoder bitrate is not the same as every viewer’s playback bitrate.
The current encoder guidance is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Do not assume that a valid stream key alone means the stream is healthy.
Estimate the bandwidth for continuous operation
For a VPS, outbound transfer is a major constraint. Estimate from the total stream bitrate—not video alone—and compare that estimate with the transfer allowance for the exact Droplet plan. DigitalOcean counts outbound traffic toward a Droplet’s monthly transfer allowance; see Droplet limits and transfer accounting.

For a rough 30-day month, continuous traffic uses approximately total Mbps × 324 GB in decimal gigabytes. The total Mbps should include video and audio. Leave additional headroom for transport overhead, retries, operational traffic, and any parallel failover feed. This is an estimate, not a DigitalOcean plan allowance or a promise that a specific plan will be sufficient.

Set the audience correctly and clear the rights
Mark children’s content accurately
If the stream is made for children, designate the audience accordingly in YouTube’s settings. For a Made for Kids live stream, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications. Personalized ads are disabled, although contextual ads may be shown. Do not plan audience engagement or revenue around features that are unavailable. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream restrictions.
Secure streaming and music rights
You need the necessary rights to broadcast the animation, soundtrack, and other included material in the territories where the stream may be available. YouTube’s livestream terms make the content provider responsible for worldwide rights, including applicable music licensing. DigitalOcean also prohibits infringement of third-party intellectual property under its Acceptable Use Policy. Owning a copy of a cartoon or finding it online does not by itself establish permission to stream or archive it.

Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and obtain any permissions your use requires before going live.
Decide how to keep a replay
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours, but this is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be captured. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single 24-hour broadcast is not a reliable way to create a complete YouTube replay. The caveat is in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

If a replay matters, consider dividing programming into shorter events and/or running a separate recording workflow with enough storage. Test the archive or recording process before relying on it. DigitalOcean’s Terms of Service Agreement place responsibility for preserving and backing up service content on the customer.
Test and monitor before leaving it unattended
- Run a representative test using the intended playlist, resolution, frame rate, and audio.
- Check the stream health in YouTube Live Control Room and review the player on both mobile and desktop.
- Watch the Droplet’s CPU, memory, network transfer, and encoder or relay output for sustained problems, including dropped frames.
- Check that the event page, audience designation, and any replay workflow match your intended use.
- For unattended operation, configure process supervision and alerting as operational safeguards, and decide how you will respond to a failed process, lost feed, or YouTube disconnect.
Monitoring and supervision can help detect or respond to faults; they do not guarantee platform or VPS uptime. YouTube recommends testing before going live and continuously monitoring audio and video quality.
