You can stream a looping Hindu bhajan playlist to YouTube from a Mac with OBS Studio: add a local media file or VLC playlist, enable looping, configure YouTube’s stream URL and key, then test the preview before going live. For a true 24/7 broadcast, the Mac, power and internet connection must remain available, and you should not rely on YouTube to save a complete replay of a stream lasting longer than 12 hours.
Before you start
- A Mac running macOS 11 or later with an Intel or Apple Silicon processor; check OBS’s compatibility information for older Mac and macOS combinations. OBS macOS compatibility.
- OBS Studio, installed by downloading its macOS disk image and moving OBS into Applications, as described in the OBS installation guide.
- Your bhajan audio or video files stored locally on the Mac. OBS Media Source supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MP3, AAC and WAV.
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
- A stable upload connection capable of sustaining your chosen stream settings, and the rights needed to broadcast every recording and composition in the playlist.
Choose how OBS will loop the bhajans
One audio or video file
Use an OBS Media Source, point it to the local file and enable Loop. This is the simplest setup when one recording contains the full sequence you want to repeat. OBS documents Media Source and its supported formats in its Media Sources guide.
Several files in a playlist
Use OBS’s VLC Video source to build a playlist from multiple files and enable looping. VLC must be installed on the Mac for this source to work. Confirm that every file plays correctly in the intended order before taking the stream live. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.

Configure the Mac and OBS stream
- Install OBS. Confirm your Mac meets OBS’s system requirements. Download the macOS disk image from the OBS website, open it and move OBS into Applications. For older macOS versions, check the compatible OBS builds before installing.
- Create a scene and add the bhajan media. In OBS, add a Media Source for a single file or a VLC Video source for a playlist. Enable Loop in the source settings. If you want a visual on screen, add a suitable still image or other visual source; keep the scene simple while testing.
- Set the stream destination in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Go Live, and create or schedule an encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube.
- Enter YouTube’s connection details in OBS. Open OBS’s stream settings, choose the YouTube service or enter the server information as applicable, and paste the stream URL and key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains encoder streaming.
- Use the recommended encoder basics. YouTube recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Choose a resolution and bitrate that your Mac and upload connection can sustain; YouTube’s live encoder settings include its recommended settings.
- Run a private or unlisted test before the broadcast. Start the encoder, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and verify that both the visual and audio are working. Listen for clean playback and confirm that the media loops as expected. YouTube advises testing and monitoring the stream; a successful test does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for a full day.
- Start the event. If you scheduled the event, wait until the preview is ready and start it from YouTube’s Live Control Room when required. Keep OBS running and check the broadcast periodically.
Make a 24/7 Mac stream more dependable
OBS can loop the media, but it does not remove the Mac and local connection from the chain. For the broadcast to continue, the Mac must stay powered on, OBS must remain open, and the internet connection must stay available. Prevent sleep during the broadcast, connect the Mac to power, and avoid relying on a Wi-Fi connection or power source that may be interrupted. A restart, software update, crash, network outage or power failure can stop the stream; the cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not promise 24/7 uptime.

- Test the complete playlist and stream well before the intended start, not just one track.
- Monitor the YouTube preview, stream health and audio during operation; unattended streaming still needs a plan for checking and responding to failures.
- Keep a copy of the source files and the stream key secure. If the key is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Use a local recording if you need your own copy of the broadcast, and estimate the required storage before leaving recording enabled for long periods.
Clear music rights before broadcasting
A song is not automatically free to rebroadcast because it is devotional, old, publicly available online or included in a playlist. You need the necessary rights for the specific recording and any relevant composition or publishing interests. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content; a match can replace the video with a placeholder, and continued use of identified material can cause a temporary interruption or termination. For licensed third-party content, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams and obtain permission from the relevant rights holder or qualified counsel.
YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

Plan for a replay separately
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast is much longer than that threshold, so do not promise viewers a complete YouTube replay or make the platform archive your only copy. If a replay matters, record locally and plan enough storage for the recording; an external SSD is one possible storage option, not a YouTube requirement. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Common problems and fixes
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not accept the stream | The channel is not eligible or live streaming has not been enabled yet, or OBS has an incorrect URL or key. | Check channel verification and live restrictions; allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. Re-copy the current stream URL and key from YouTube Studio and update OBS. |
| The Live Control Room has no preview | OBS has not connected, the stream settings are wrong, or the Mac’s connection is not sustaining the feed. | Confirm OBS is streaming to the correct YouTube event, verify the URL and key, and check OBS and YouTube stream health before starting the public event. |
| Playback stops at the end of the file | Loop is not enabled for the media source. | Open the source’s properties and enable Loop; for several files, use a VLC Video source with playlist looping enabled. |
| A playlist source is unavailable | VLC is not installed or the playlist’s file paths do not point to available local files. | Install VLC and check each playlist entry and file location. |
| Audio or video stutters | The Mac or upload connection may not sustain the selected output settings. | Test with a lower resolution or bitrate that the hardware and connection can handle, then check stream health and playback again. |
| The stream is interrupted after a copyright match | A recording or composition may have been identified by YouTube’s live content checks. | Stop using material for which you lack rights; resolve permissions with the rights holder. If you have a licence, ask whether the channel needs to be allowlisted in Content ID. |
| The broadcast ends when the Mac sleeps, restarts or loses connectivity | The local computer, power or network is no longer supplying the encoder feed. | Keep the Mac powered and awake, check its network and restart OBS and the YouTube event if needed. A local Mac setup depends on those resources remaining available. |
| The YouTube replay is incomplete or missing | The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated archive duration guidance. | For a long broadcast, rely on a separate local recording if a complete replay is important. |
